12 million.

You not think that is a sackable offence?

Twelve million pounds for him. Middlesbrough paid that to sign him and he is not even as good as his English look-a-like Chris Freestone.

Can't wait for people to defend him and talk about him getting no service.

You really need to clam down. Think of fluffy kittens or something.

Our problems are central midfield and I believe everything else would drop into place if we could get that area sorted. Whingeing about Strikers and Left Backs and Goalkeepers or whatever, is just identifying symptoms we need to address the cause of the problem. With Digard suspended for three and Walker out for the foreseeable we fall back on Arca, O'neill and (heaven help us) Shawky.

In short we're phucked. Get used to it. Southgate will be judged (and rightly so) at the end of the season.

Muttley, I can't calm down. I have tried the fluffy kittens but then I keep seeing Bambi's little legs on ice and as the camera slowly moves up, it's Alves' head on the little deer.
We paid twelve million pounds for the lad, it's catastrophic.

We don't have a midfield, we don't have a left back and we need signings all over the place - granted.

But look at Alves, you can't say he'd be good if we signed good players in all of them positions. The lad is a mess. Do you really think he is better than Tom Craddock?
Mido doesn't look that bad when he plays there, nor does Tuncay or Aliadiere.

Jo - Man City.

Looks like we got a bargain.

Bandy - classic!

ChiefWiggum Posted on 20/01/2009 11:17

take a look at berbatov.Ferguson played 30 million for him, hes playing with the english, european and world champions and has managed 2 or 3 more than alves this season....Does that mean he deserves the sack??

Since the manu game i think hes actually played decent enough.Should have more goals but if we can continue to create them he will score

lambsbrothersmatesnephew Posted on 20/01/2009 11:18

Yearby reds - Man City have millions to throw away incase you hadn't realised.

Boro don't. We don't have a penny scratch our a*ses with.

bettyswollocks Posted on 20/01/2009 11:19

Rochemsmak Posted on 20/01/2009 11:24

I will say its about margins, if he had put those two headers in which were very close and managed to beat the keeper after that excellent dribble we would be saying 12m bargain, he is in my view trying to be too deliberate trying always to put things in the corner and seems to be just missing them. Name a chance mido had when he came on??? Alves has a fantastic sense of position and running and appetite for gaols sadly he is just falling outside those margins when shooting. I still have faith, give him a strking partner and he we will start banigng them in! I hope :)

lambsbrothersmatesnephew Posted on 20/01/2009 11:26

All well and good getting into positions of scoring opportunity but when you need as much time as he does and when you do that telegraphed "i'm gonna shoot" pull back of your foot, it doesn't really work.

Rochemsmak Posted on 20/01/2009 11:29

disagree with that comment, he is close to fulfilling his price tag id be more worried if he was insignificant but the fact is he is still our most likely scorer and hopefully those fine margins will turn in our favour and with the that the season will too, fingers crossed. I am of the belief if we are to get out of this alves is paramount so get behind him

lambsbrothersmatesnephew Posted on 20/01/2009 11:36

I'll always be behind him as long as he is picked, little point booing.
But I can't forgive Southgate for spending that money on somebody as talented as him, if the deal was private and nobody knew what we had paid and were told it was a youth player come through the ranks I'm afraid it would be a different story. People think he is good because he is 12 million, or think he must be good soon!

By the way, on a different note, I take it you are a fan of Fabio judging by the username. Although we completely differ on the opionion of Alves, that is not the case with Fabio. One of the best midfielders we've had.
