V Ipswich Town. It was 1987, But not sure if it was the back end of 1986-87 or the start of 1987-88. I think it was the latter.

We won 3-1 I think and I got pins and needles from sitting on the barrier.

one of the earliest that stands out from that season was battering sheffield utd 6-0 i think.

One of my earliest memories was Cloughie scoring against Fulham from an impossible angle after beating the keeper. I was convinced at the time that he'd put spin on the ball to make it divert into the net, but it now seems more likely it hit a divot.

1957, I think.

1967, I can't remember who we played, we were in the Chicken Run with me Dad. All I can remember is the green pitch being so close, and the noise the footballers made when they came towards us. The smoke from the crowd, and the smell of beer, farts, and ciggies everywhere. The imaginative shouts from the famous Chicken Runners, and the roar of the Holgate End whenever Boro went into their half. I spent most of the time looking around, I'd never seen so many people crammed into one place.

Carling Cup Final, 2004 that was mine - great day and I enjoyed every minute.

Made me hungry for our next cup final, although I must said I was disappointed to get beat in Eindhoven and it put me off going somewhat.

I cant wait until we get to another cup final and I can get another game under my belt.

Oh, you mean the smell of farts, beer, and ciggies ? That was bugger all, compared to a trip on a diesel boat !!

v Leicester 19.3.78. In the boys end with Jim Platt unable to save us from getting beat 0-1. I should have realised then, aged 6, the S*** I was getting myself into but no, I was back a few weeks later to watch us draw 2-2 v Norwich.

My first game was Notts County @ Ayresome park. I remember my parents had paid for me to do a football course at school and you got to goto a boro match when it had finished.I think it was about 93/94.We won 4-1 and im sure Alan Moore scored 2.

London_boro that game against south bank if it was around 84' im sure ive got a program from that game. i will try and post some pics when i get time to dig it out.

Versus Peterborough at Ayresome Park early summer 1967. If memory serves, we won 2-0 or 2-1.

This was the last home game before the legendary final game against Oxford where we got promotion and the entire population of Teesside was within 200 yards of the centre circle, the majority inside the ground. God, what a night THAT was! Bloody terrifying and ecstatic in equal measure.

My main memories of those games are of being struck dumb by the huge tide of people and getting swept along like a cork in a stream - no control over direction - and this being both scary and wonderful. And a sense of finally belonging to something.

Also, the fact that you could shout and swear your a*rse off and no-one minded - very liberating for a shy 12 year old.

Have a lot better memories of the Division 1 season tho....

25.08.1979 home to Crystal Palace 1-1

I think it was a night match. I didn't even like football, play football, or watch football until my older brother dragged me along to the game that night.

So I went from being a naive nipper who knew nothing and cared less of this entity called Middlesbrough Football Club that day, to being a total Boro addict by the time the final whistle went.

I now blame my brother for the 29 years of Saturday morning pre-match nerves, Sunday morning blues when we lose, and the countless times the Boro have got my hopes up just to have them cruelly dashed again.

(Although Cardiff 2004 makes up for most of it [:D])

Has anyone got the Boro Bible or something there and can look to see when we played Ipswich at home - So i know what season it was...

Sure it was 3-1. It will either have after April 1987 but before christmas... Just want to know what season.

I'm sure that Sheffield Utd match was 87-88 so pretty sure it was the beginning of that year, rather than 86-87

Boro 2 Sunderland 0; December 1985 with goals from Tonys Mowbray and McAndrew. The most vivid memory was the sweet smell of pipe smoke in the North Stand and to this day that smell still takes me back.

My dad had stopped taking my older brother in the early 80's when hooliganism was rife and was tentatively coming round to going again. Went to the other 'derby' games that season (a 2-2 draw with Leeds and a 1-3 defeat to Carlisle) before really catching the bug the next season down in Division 3 with Brucie's Babes!.

LOL, the Boys End seasons 1979-1983 would always have the whiff of pipe smoke. Whoever it was must have been psychic because as soon as he'd light up, there'd be a goal!

v Darlo at xmas 1966 in the old 3rd division, i went with my brother in the old boys end.I think it cost 6d (2 and a half p) to get in. Never forget walking up the steps and getting first sight of the pitch! couldnt believe how green it was! I think we won the game 4-0. Been hooked ever since though had to give up season ticket a couple of seasons ago due to finance problems but still go to most home games.

Pink - the Ipswich game - won 3-1 - was 1987

Took the other half for the first time - I think we were 0-1 down and Kernaghan scored one of the three to win.

We seemed to win every home game around that time

My first game was against Wimbledon in the first premiership season, I watched my first game ever on TV in Euro 92 (England Vs Sweeden) I was 7 and it was near Christmas if memory serves me right. I suddenly became a Boro fan when we beat Leeds 4-1 at the beginning of the season, I remember my mum opening the bedroom window so we could hear if Boro scored with Teletext on the TV updating the score because we lived so near the ground!!

I'd begged my mum for months to go to a Boro game and I remember how amazed I was at the time. I miss the Ayresome Park Atmosphere, and it's funny that my favourite player is still Paul Wilkinson just because of the way the announcer used to shout his name out before the match.

my first season was the 86-87 season. I was 6 at the time and I'd never seen grass so green! aparantly when I went a really little kid (about 82 or 83) my dad took me to ayresome park to see england schoolboys play but I cant remember it obviously. does anyone know what year that was??

Luca, I was at that game against Peterborough too. I think it was 2-1, John Hickton scored the winner after a right wing cross from Downing (Derek, not Stewy). I recall he scored quite late, maybe last 15 minutes, and it was at the East End, not the Holgate.

My next game was the famous one against Oxford. Scary and wonderful, all in one.

I saw both games against Darlington that season as well. It was away at Feethams on Boxing day, we won 0-4, and then 4-0 a couple of days later at Ayresome. There were so many people trying to get into Ayresome Park we missed the first goal.

I don't think we lost a game after Christmas that year.

Think there was a 'first' (and last !), at the Peterborough game

The guy, in his white coat, who led the community singing at the FA Cup final every year, (no longer, thank fcuk), made an appearance on a wooden stand before the game started, and led the Boro crowd in some 'community' singing

Needless to say, I was there, and at the Oxford game on the Tuesday

Think Darlo away was only first away game; my 2nd away game being later that season at Grimsby...lost 2-1 I think

My first game was during 1964-65 season..........can't remember the opposition

Oh God, I remember that guy now!

All I recall is being pretty embarassed and wondering what the hell he was doing there - it felt like school assembly.

However, 'Abide With Me' is part of that same tradition and no matter how old fashioned it might be, I could still barely sing for crying when we finally did that at Wembley

Cant remember which was the first but do remember the time we played an Enland B team (must have been a testimonial), if that jogs anyones memory?, it must have been early 80's. I think Alan Devonshire of west ham was playing for the England team - he was taking the corners. Havent got a clue which year. Can remember us beating Man City 2-0 when Billy Ashcroft, John Craggs, Hodgson were playing for us. Alcohol has ruined my memory and i'm only in my 30's....

PP was it a night game, if so it was 87 -88, we didn't play them in 86-87 season with us being in the 3rd Division, they scored 1st and had a player sent off, I think Deano scored from the free kick at the HOLGATE END.
The resulting fixture seen us get battered 4-0, with Colin Cooper being sent off in injury time.
