ROSE TINTED SOUTHGATE LOVERS

This will be the season when you will have to admit he is not a Manager and has to go , he has already made 3 major mistakes before the season has started.
No point going into detail i will only get shot down , yes i have renewed my Ticket and no i won't be renewing next season if Southgate is still here.
Unless of course he proves me wrong which i would love to happen but sorry folks it isn't going to the man is not a Premier League football Manager.
That'll be all.

The give him more time brigade will just look silly this season.
By proving me wrong i mean proving that sticking with Turnbull and Jones was the right choice , not bringing a quality right winger or a quality creative Midfielder in.
The emphasis being on the word Quality.

What are the 3 major mistakes?

GGGG Posted on 30/07/2008 14:12
ROSE TINTED SOUTHGATE LOVERS

But Southgate is a premiership manager just a bottom half premiership manager, for 2 years in a row he has had us safe from relegation with a few games to spare a few jitters from the crowd but never any real uncertainity of our status. For me Southgate is a bit like Chris Coleman will never reach the dizzy heights of the premiership but will just be in the comfort zone of the premiership.

B*******.
Not getting a proven Keeper in - Mistake 1
Every team needs a decent back bone.
Letting Catts go - Mistake 2
Mistake 3 & 4 not getting a proven right winger or creative Midfielder have time to be corrected.
Like i said i hope he proves me wrong but what i have seen over the last couple of seasons sorry but i can't see it.
We will have to wait and see.

Well I agree about 1, don't agree about 2, Emnes will play on the right and we have several creative midfielders already though I do agree that we need at least one more signing in central midfield.

Several creative midfielders ??

GGGG Posted on 30/07/2008 14:23
ROSE TINTED SOUTHGATE LOVERS

Emnes could be the answer to the right hand side after seeing him in 2 x 45 minutes he looks like a useful addition to the squad, a player who likes to get the ball and take the opposition on can play on the wing or in the middle. Tend to agree with the keeper situation its a decision he could regret big style. As for Cattermole its no major loss i cant think of a time ive been watching a Boro match and thought "oh what we need now is Cattermole to come on that will see us through the game." We have to wait and see Southgates plans in the opening games is he going to play with wingers? This season is a huge season for him i dont think we will be any thing special but i do believe we will play faster and more exciting football.

Keverson Posted on 30/07/2008 14:29
ROSE TINTED SOUTHGATE LOVERS

I agree about the keeper, but Schwarzer was "proven" but had a poor season last year, and Southgate wouldn't have sold Cattermole without a logical explanation.

Cattermole asked to move because Southgate couldn't guarantee him first team football. Surely a player from his hometown club would knuckle down and try and prove the manager wrong? Obviously not, and I'm not sure if he'll even get a starting place for Wigan with their midfield.

As for the right winger/creative midfielder, you're forgetting that Southgate is looking at changing the way you play. You're likely to set up with (hypothetically) Digard/Shawky as defensive midfielders, and an attacking 4 of Tuncay, Downing, Emnes and Alves. Then you have Arca, O'Neil, Aliadiere and Mido to come in also.

There are some gaps in the squad, but I think you'll fare better this season than last.

Some fair point's but i know Lee personally and he didn't want to leave Boro Wigan came in and Boro Accepted.
Also he is getting a pay off because it was the Boro that ended his contract not the player wanting to leave.
We may yet get a quality Midfield player in still time left but we should really be looking for a Keeper this will come back to haunt Southgate this season and could be the main reason on him leaving if things don't go well.
If is far to big of a risk if you ask me for a Manager who is just into his first few seasons to be taking.
Look what happened to Smac taking risks with keepers in his final England match.

M_B_K well you know Lee personally but that still doesnt mean he should still be playing for us, the lad was furthering his career at the Boro and Southgate obviously viewed that Cattermole didnt feature in his plans, it was for the best he went instead of rotting in the reserves its now up to him to prove Southgate wrong good luck Cattermole hope he does well

Midosparmo Posted on 30/07/2008 15:18

"the lad was furthering his career at the Boro" on that basis get shot of Downing as well.

Keverson Posted on 30/07/2008 15:22
ROSE TINTED SOUTHGATE LOVERS

If you know Cattermole then fair enough, I was just going on what had been written in the local paper.

"If is far to big of a risk if you ask me for a Manager who is just into his first few seasons to be taking".

That's where managers earn their money though. If it does come back and bite Southgate, then it's his fault (like Newcastle not sacking Barton). He obviously doesn't rate him highly enough to be a first team regular and it's in Cattermole's best interests to find someone who can play him on a regular basis and to make him into a better player and boost his England ambitions - he just has to look at what Crouch has done this summer.

downings our best player.

Cattermole wasn't anywhere near our best central midfielder i a time where it was probably our worst midfield in 5+ yrs.

Since when has wanting to further your career been a crime? I take it you'll be happy, with mid table journey men then?

Keverson i am talking about the Keeper being to big of a risk not Catts leaving.

KobeB Posted on 30/07/2008 15:32

I'm not, that's why i'm glad Catts left, cos he'll never be more than a mid table journey man.
