Two gripes on statues...apparently there has been a collection bucket going round to raise money for the Cloughie statue campaign - what a disgrace!! The club should pay the lot instantly and get Wilf and George off the shameful cheapo breezeblock and onto marble. How many players are deserving of a statue, the answer is 3 so its a once in a lifetime thing that MFC can and should pay for. The council should pay for the Cloughie statue in the people's park and the club should build one at the ground so we have our 'holy trinity' for all home and away fans alike. Just my opinion like! | |

Hopefully the club view the situation as I do, and that someone who loved Sunderland more than Middlesbrough is not deserving of a statue outside our ground. | |

I don't agree that the answer is 3, there are others who deserve a mention. The question is therefore, where do you stop? I know what you mean, but why not Camsell as well. Or Hickton? How many statues should we have, and how many should the club pay for? Personally, I'm not bothered about the base, I'm just grateful that they're up there. Why not an avenue of statues all the way along the carpark to the entrance? Maximium of six either side, handily giving our best eleven plus a sub. Choose your twelve. Why not just create a statue for every player that played for Boro and is now dead. We can put them on the room of the stand looking down. We can pretend they are our Guardians like gargoyles on cathedrals. | |
