For years now I've only bought Fly Me and not the matchday programme. I don't even know how much the official programme is anymore, probably about £5 by now. Fly Me has been a pound for as long as I can remember - hope it stays that way.

re: FMTTM SPORTS FANZINE OF THE YEAR

Well this is grand. Thank you very much everyone. Was a bit of an amazing evening. I had serious hopes of winning the Sports Fanzine award but was shocked to win the overall prize. About 200 fanzines/webzines and student publications entered. A lifestyle fanzine called Karen by a girl called ... Karen came second.

It was very strange because everyone else was in gangs. I was Billy No Mates in the corner. Fortunately someone there recognised me and I got introduced to lots of people. The good part about being Billy No Mates was I got to quoff just about the whole bottle of champers myself.

I followed some people to a club afterwards - when I came to leave I realised I had no idea where I was. Somewhere in London most probably.

Anyway, thanks again to everyone on this thread. Some fine words spoken and some touching comments made.

I think we'll have to have a fmttm party now.

Gillandi Posted on 2/3 17:38
re: FMTTM SPORTS FANZINE OF THE YEAR

Rob - I hope you sang "WE CAN SEE YOU SNEAKING OUT!!!!" to runner up Karen who does the lifestyle fanzine Karen but anyway, nows the time for you to broaden your publishing base, as an award winner you need to cash in with another title quick. A life-style fanzine like Karen's maybe? I'll even give you a working title..."Robert." I can hear the tills chinging already.

rob_fmttm Posted on 2/3 17:50
re: FMTTM SPORTS FANZINE OF THE YEAR

I like the idea - strangely I was the only person who actually took along any fanzines to hand out - so I've no idea what Karen or any of the others are like. I do know that Karen produces one copy of Karen a year - so Robert might just about be able to keep up on that basis. Karen was from Grimsby but now lives in a Wiltshire village and that's where she bases Karen the fanzine. ... oh it's so confusing.

I met the guy from Match - nice bloke and an EMAP big whig. Oh and also the bloke from The Independent. He's going to do a write up he says. Didn't see the others - they must have been on the one table in the place. Everyone was drinking Estonian beer - the bottles looked like vinegar dispensers.

Oh and I think the issue of the fanzine that was judged was the Liverpool one with Fischer's old joke on the cover with all the scousers in curly wigs etc.

Gillandi Posted on 2/3 19:17
re: FMTTM SPORTS FANZINE OF THE YEAR

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, it's not just any old Bob, Dood or Harry who writes the fanzine y'know? These are comedic giants among men and this accolade is a double edged sword. Can we keep em next season is the problem now? There's bound to be interest from the glossies in our best talent. Rob may have to put the price of the fanzine up to £4.99 to compete.

As long as there's a CD of all the worst songs from 12 rubbish but loosely connected albums attached to the cover I wont mind a bit.

re: FMTTM SPORTS FANZINE OF THE YEAR

Hey well done Rob - well worth a celebration. Hic! My boxes full of back issues of an award winning fanzine must be worth a fortune!

re: FMTTM SPORTS FANZINE OF THE YEAR

I've just had a written offer to write "Tales From The Hosiery", a lifestyle undergarment section in the new issue of Karen.

I've been offered quite a substantial payrise in that she'll let rummage through her washing and she'll make me a mug of warm ribena before I go out to sell it.

has she considered a bit called 'unpleasant beauty products and bath time accessories in the bath ?'

I'm not sure. Tell you what, give me a few weeks to bed into my new position and I'll recommend you.

We can get Fischer to write Hankeywatch.

Does this mean I will no longer hear your wonderful sales pater of "Get your hair cut you scruffy b_astard" as I get off my bus?

re: FMTTM SPORTS FANZINE OF THE YEAR

I wouldn't worry sunshine.

It'll be "Get your hair cut you scruffy b_astard but come and buy this award winning fanzine before you do".

re: FMTTM SPORTS FANZINE OF THE YEAR

hopefully you get on the riverside pitch at half time and the club make a public apology for all the sh it they have given you recently. plus you can throw a dice and draw the numbers out of the hat or even do some penalty kicks

re: FMTTM SPORTS FANZINE OF THE YEAR

FMTTM vs Red Square in a penalty competition. Now that'd be entertainment.

Which side would the MFC staff who proof-read FMTTM be on?

Wouldn't want to be in the stands behind the goal though. Ouch.

They'd be the refs boroboy. Expect a few re-takes.

Congratulations. As you know, I am a bit rusty on the old football - although I have heard of people like archie gemmell, bobby rockstar, willie madren and so forth. i think you are the winner as well. as i am a little bugger, i am going to post this advert here: http://com3.runboard.com/bjuniorelvisofficialforum.fjuniorgigs.t13

Well done Rob and all concerned!

Bit concerned about your description of the beer at the function though.

Estonian beer?

Where the heck is the brewery in Eston? Sounds like a cheap Eatern European imitation to me!

Thanks again everyone. Here's a link to BBC Cleveland's online piece, courtesy of the superb Natalie Boxall. It's a short piece about the awards with a photo of the presentation and an interview I did yesterday with Ian Kenyon on Cleveland.

Almost a year to the day since the Carling Cup win as well. How appropriate. What a good way to mark the 1st anniversary of the Carling Cup. Must be summat about this time of year eh?

Is Rob going to do a victory parade? Maybe starting outside the bus station and going via Ayresome Park to the Riverside.

Nice to see Steve Lamacq out and about.

He always looks so ill.

Here's the mention from the Emap website:

Winner
FMTTM

Our judges said:
"This Middlesbrough fanzine is clearly written by the fans for the fans. With cartoons, a spoof radio times round-up and an acute knowledge of their club, it stood out as one of the funniest football fanzines around."

Radio times!!!! And no mention of the puns???? Shocking....
