re: Is there anything good on telly?

Saw this last night..fantastic.

Cutting Edge: Cocaine

3-Part Series,
Commencing Tuesday 26 July
8.30 pm

Screening in Cutting Edge is the three-part documentary series Cocaine, commencing on Tuesday, 26 July 2005 at 8.30 pm on SBS Television. Documentary filmmaker Angus Macqueen spent 18 months on the cocaine trail across Latin America to make this extraordinary documentary series. From the dirt-poor valleys of Peru, to the shanty towns of Rio, this journey revolutionised Macqueen’s views on the drug, causing him to now believe that the ‘dandruff of the Andes’ should be sold in chemists everywhere.

In the depths of the Peruvian jungle there are fields and fields of coca plants. Cocaine is an alkaloid found in the leaves of this South American shrub, named Erythroxylon coca. Cocaine is a powerfully reinforcing psychostimulant in such great demand that it propels a vast, illegal network that traverses countries and involves millions of people and incredible sums of money...

sorry in Sydney..keep ur eyes open for it.

Stampy's read your reply about D.O.T.D. You musat have thought it was bad then?

Saw another film mentioned on a bill board today - Devils Rejectsd or something? - Any info?

I believe that ones directed by one Rob Zombie and is "the goriest bloodiest sickest film ever"

stampysdog Posted on 3/8 0:38
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Evening Jax.

I saw a trailer for The Devils Rejects before The Descent and it looks extremely gory. Our friend from the first Dawn of the Dead is in it as well I believe.

re: Is there anything good on telly?

Really Biffa? I hadn't heard of it before I saw the poster today. Will look forward to hearing you guys review it then.

That's odd. Asked what your fave 5 would be and it didn't show up on the post

Ok Biffa, I have to admit I'll probably wait till they come out on dvd though. I can switch them off then if they get a bit too much.

You'll probably have to wait for Stampys review jax, doesn't look like one for me.

Not keen on these gore films. Mind I watched the first two Screams on 4 and thought they were good.

stampysdog Posted on 3/8 0:58
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Dawn of the Dead
The Descent
Alien
The Shining (or "The Shinning" depending on which version you've seen)
And 28 Days Later

All of the "classics" are better, but I don't really find them scary, or as scary, as the ones that I have listed.

And what about you're top 5?

The_Boro_Biffa Posted on 3/8 1:00
re: Is there anything good on telly?

In no order:

Dawn of the Dead
Alien(s) I like Aliens morre but its more action than horror.
The Descent
The Thing
The Sixth Sense. Stopped being scary once the ghosts were friendly though.

Grumpy_Paul Posted on 3/8 1:01
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Stampy

Band of Brothers or the Sharpe series for example

Not many of them about though

Also, they are old hat, nothing new coming through

stampysdog Posted on 3/8 1:06
re: Is there anything good on telly?

I missed the Band of Brothers series. My friends were raving about it as well.

But I was stubborn.

The_Boro_Biffa Posted on 3/8 1:07
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Band of Brothers is an absolute fantastic series, best thing on TV in recent memory.

And as for Sharpe, well its got Shaun Beane in it need I say more?
I secretly hoped that Peter JAckson would change the Lord of the Rings storyline so Beano could have been in it more.

jax_1 Posted on 3/8 1:08
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Ooooo, not a bad choice there Stampy's. Would certainly fill a horrorfest night.

The Shining was good - some good, hide behind cushion moments there.

Haven't seen the Descent yet so I can't comment on that one.

Alien 1 and 2 were both good I thought.

I wasn't quite so keen on 28 Days Later though.

Dawn of the Dead - what can I say - all time classic, wrapped in celluloid! I never tire of watching that one.

Mine would be - though in no particular order.

Excorcist 1 - didn't think either of the sequals were up to much.

Carrie - One of S. Kings best books I thought.

Dawn Of The Dead - Just the bestest.

Evil Dead

And any one of the Chucky movies.

The_GOAT Posted on 3/8 1:09
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Doesn't a woman get raped by a tree in Evil Dead? Sounds quite pornographic.

stampysdog Posted on 3/8 1:11
re: Is there anything good on telly?

I would have said Evil Dead if I had seen it. Been tempted to buy the box set for a good while now.

The clip where the persons boil (?) bursts into the womans rice pudding (?) is interesting.

jax_1 Posted on 3/8 1:11
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Just spotted your top 5 there Biffa.
6th Sense is good the first time you see it.

Others are good choices too.

Hiya Grumps Yes Sharpe is good, I like that and partly for the same reason as Biffa.
Never saw Band of Brothers. What was that about?

jax_1 Posted on 3/8 1:14

LOL @ bursting boil, that's just sick that is

Was good - lots of zombie types.

Thankfully Goat, I think they cut that scene though.

Just remembered about T.C.M. Another classic.

re: Is there anything good on telly?

I've seen umpteen versions of TCM, except for the original.

jax_1 Posted on 3/8 1:19
re: Is there anything good on telly?

It's good, tight hold of cushion type film. It was on not so long ago - full uncut version.

Haven't mentioned any of the Hammer House of Horror ones but some of them were good too. In their own way

The_Boro_Biffa Posted on 3/8 1:19

Grumpy_Paul Posted on 3/8 1:19

Jax
Band of Brothers

Quailty television following a company of US airbourne troops from initial training through to germany during WWII.
Not your gung Ho glory boys but what I imagine to be a reflection of what it was really like (with some poetic license)

Recollections from genuine veterans prior to each episode were very touching and brought more than just an occasional tear to the eye.

jax_1 Posted on 3/8 1:24
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Ah right Grumps, will watch out for that when they repeat it.

They've just done a similar one of the Iraq war apparently - Steve Bocho is producing it. ( He of Hill Street Blues and N.Y.P.D. Blue, fame )

A bit premature perhaps, but it's quite popular in the States apparently

Yeah seems to be from what I gathered. Have liked Bocho's other stuff, not sure I'd watch that though.

The_Boro_Biffa Posted on 3/8 1:30

Sounds like it could be interesting, is it from a specific units viewpoints or does it follow American and British troops?

jax_1 Posted on 3/8 1:33

From what I gathered Biffa, is was just about American Troops but I didn't catch much of the item, maybe Grumps might know more about it.

Sean Beane or Richard Hammond.*

*I know that you can't really compare the 2 as they do different jobs, but ignore that.

LOL Biffa, I have to go back out yet too, delaying purposely lol.

Hill Street Blues

Wow I used to just love it

Belker

Fictional HERO

jax_1 Posted on 3/8 1:55

I like most of the spoofy type films - can't think of the name of the one based on Police Squad though. (Leslie Nielsen was in it. )

I'm still stuck in a phase of Coldplay ( X and Y ) Embrace and Keane, with a bit of Daft Punk thrown in for good measure.

I'm not sure really this is their only song i've heard, caught the video flicking through the music channels once and loved it.

It's upbeat and 'feelgood' I reckon.

XandY is a fantastic album, Talk has me hooked.

Oh and I saw Embrace a few months back at Newcastle town hall, he takes a while to get his voice going but once it did he was great, shame they started with Ashes really.

Anyone there?

Any news on the interview yet, Grantus?

grantus Posted on 9/8 1:45
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Its tomorrow afternoon. I'll be spending the morning attempting to keep calm.

Dont think it will be with the man with the golden tan though, ladies favourite, General Lee (takeshi's castle bloke).

One of the people interviewing me comes from the Boro though and follows, follows, follows.

Positivity, thats the key.

Really nervous me like.

grantus Posted on 9/8 2:10
re: Is there anything good on telly?

If i get through the interview, Im led to believe there will be an "experience" day. Spending time with the company, my manager, my direct reports, meeting the teams, seeing if im the right fit.

That type of thing.

re: Is there anything good on telly?

I'm not sure, I seem to remember my last post being a 'goodnight' one, but im not sure whether I just dreamt the whole thread up.

And i'm certain between me saying "if you've got them may as well use them" wasn't the last thing I said, there's a whole section of conversation missing!

jax_1 Posted on 10/8 0:43
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Might it have been a different thread Biff? Like the one you did about your handle and maybe changing it to something Sean Bean related?

The_Boro_Biffa Posted on 10/8 0:44
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Possibly, trifle will make this better

jax_1 Posted on 10/8 0:46
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Without a doubt Biff - trifle always works, well that or hot chocolate fudge cake with cream

The_Boro_Biffa Posted on 10/8 0:49
re: Is there anything good on telly?

No cake handy unfortunately jax, but there is a rather large trifle in the firdge that i'm under instructions to eat

jax_1 Posted on 10/8 0:51
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Well if you are under orders to eat it, you are duty bound I'm afraid, Biff. I know it will be a hard job and you have my sympathies but it has to be done.

Want some help?

How are we sposed to eat that Badgey?

borobadge Posted on 10/8 1:04
re: Is there anything good on telly?

you dont..

but it looks good on the telly..

and when eating it always tastes better if the scenery is pleasant.....

The_Boro_Biffa Posted on 10/8 1:05
re: Is there anything good on telly?

You have my sincerest apologies jax, but I was worked into a kind of desert frenzy by lunch. They never stood a chance!

Anyway what's everyones excuse for being up at these ungodly hours?

Mines that i'm a hip young student who does crazy stuff like this all the time.

Sax_eee Posted on 10/8 1:08
re: Is there anything good on telly?

No I dont, in fact freezing it in ice cube containers, pathetic I know.

jax_1 Posted on 10/8 1:11
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Ah Badgey, well you are quite right about having a good view whilst eating. Always nice when you eat in pleasant surroundings. That wedding do I went to the other night has spoilt me, I could get quite used to that place, very easily!

Biff, did you have to do without a dessert at lunchtime?

The_Boro_Biffa Posted on 10/8 1:13
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Well I had jelly for breakfast while I watched the shuttle land.
I had trifle for lunch.
I had more trifle for pudding after tea.
And i've just had some trifle as a mid night snack.

I'm paced it to last me a whole day

Just scared myself to death, thought I saw someone moving in my garden out the corner of my eye. It's all this bleedin sugar!

stampysdog Posted on 10/8 1:21

I jumped in the air and landed back on my chair thank you very much.

What's all of this trifle business?

re: Is there anything good on telly?

He did what Biff? Do tell

The_Boro_Biffa Posted on 10/8 1:30
re: Is there anything good on telly?

I've been gorging on trifle all day stampy

Well jax, you see the story begins when a certain person was perusing the internet looking for scary sites and/or "screamers".

On this fatefull night this person stumbled across something he wasn't ready for, a "screamer" of such a horiffic nature it shocked him to his very core.

At this point it should be noted that a "screamer" is an internet trick where you are watching something, generally an magic eye puzzle, when out of the blue a horiffic image, generally a horror face, appears and screams at you.

Now this person had been looking at screamers for some time and thought they'd seen it all, but when they saw this one they were caught up in such fear that they pushed backwards from their computer tipping their chair over and falling to the floor in abject terror.

But I won't name any names. Your secrets safe with me stampy

stampysdog Posted on 10/8 1:32
re: Is there anything good on telly?

^^BASED on a true story.

jax_1 Posted on 10/8 1:35
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Rofl Biff Which screamer was it ( have seen a few btw ) and did he look at you to make sure you hadn't seen him do that?

Stampy's do you know who it was?

stampysdog Posted on 10/8 1:36
re: Is there anything good on telly?

It was a "subliminal messages" one. Generally regarded as the scariest one ever made.

Or so this person told me.

The_Boro_Biffa Posted on 10/8 1:38
re: Is there anything good on telly?

I don't know jax you'd have to ask him for details.

Didn't know anyone else called them screamers though

The one that got me was one I knew was a screamer and I still went on it, lets just say I pushed myself back into my seat as far from the screen as I could get and tilted my head away as I reached for the 'x'. It was the scream that got me on that one.

jax_1 Posted on 10/8 1:39
re: Is there anything good on telly?

LOL @ you Stampy's - so you know this person too?

< snigger >

stampysdog Posted on 10/8 1:46

jax_1 Posted on 10/8 1:50
re: Is there anything good on telly?

LOL Biff

Probably the same ones you will have seen over the years Stampys' but even though, when I click onto those things I know? they are going to make me jump, I still look. Have never fallen out of my chair though.

stampysdog Posted on 10/8 1:54

jax_1 Posted on 10/8 2:06
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Grantus, I am sure you will have done well. The role play stuff is usually what they judge on most - that and psychometric tests, which will be a doddle to you anyway.

The role play stuff as you know, is based on what some twit has picked up at a psychology training day.

I have every faith in you! ( Not that that helps I know but all the same, I do hope that you get it. )

jax_1 Posted on 10/8 2:18
re: Is there anything good on telly?

Lol @ you Gren. That's a good cholesterol score - wd you!!!

In my case, I think it's just a matter of revenge - I haven't been to the docs in ages, so obviously they have missed out on my subs. Hence they are doing a barrage of tests and taking all my blood, just to get their money's worth while the going is good

I prefer Morgans pork pies btw, much nicer
