OFFICIAL Ashes 4th Test Thread

Once again I think we should try to keep everything on once thread rather than clogging up the board with loads of messages.

McGrath Out

England unchanged, won the toss and are batting.

Come on England

Let's get on top of this Tait fella nice n early, and show him what a man's game test cricket really is.

Odds on Strauss or Tresco hitting a ton by tea?

Luckily batting first so "Warney" doesn't bowl on a 5th day pich.

Come on England.

Fairly comfortable so far 27/0

Is it just me or is Channel 4's coverage boring as hell compared to Sky?

The don't even have the score on the screen at all times.

We should use TMS style nicknames on this thread. So here I shall only answer to "Mutters".

My thanks to "Wheaters" for starting this thread.

Tate is not impressing me so far! Lots of no-balls being bowled Ponting must be worried bringing Warne on so early.

As I type another no-ball!

paulwheats Posted on 25/8 11:54
re: OFFICIAL Ashes 4th Test Thread

Think it's a typical case of trying to impress too much with Tate.

Shitloads of no-balls keeping the scoreboard ticking over nicely.

If it wasn't for some fantastic fielding we'd be close to 100 already.

85/0 and cruising (fate tempted!)

Looking at these nasty black clouds outside the office heading towards Trent Bridge has me wondering how much more play we'll get before a shower or two.

Only one though Tommo...whats his average in the series? 30 ish? Not knocking him, I just thought this was gonna be HIS series. He's obviously going to a great batsmen for us in the next 10 years.

T0O1O2N Posted on 25/8 12:42
re: OFFICIAL Ashes 4th Test Thread

The nice thing about beating the arrogant convicts is seeing them look around for and clutching onto any excuse.
Jimmy Cook, "discovered" Botony Bay, where the convicts interbred, and turned into the Kankaroo shooting, Wallabee eating and Aborigine hating malicious grudge keeping individuals known as Australians.
I can't help feeling a tad guilty though coming from the Boro...
After all, if it wasn't for Jimmy Cook, who would England be playing right now?

BoroTommo Posted on 25/8 12:43
re: OFFICIAL Ashes 4th Test Thread

I think he's batted quite well, and got in and then out too much, but he's one of only 3 to get a ton at all in the series.

This side has the potential to dominate world cricket in much the same way as the Aussies have done for many years.

On the series so far, I would reckon the best side you could pick from the combined first choice teams as follows:

Trescothick (ahead of Langer)
Strauss (Ahead of Hayden)
Vaughan (Ahead of Ponting in batting and captaincy)
Martyn (Ahead of Bell)
Pietersen (Ahead of Katich)
Flintoff (Ahead of Clarke)
Gilchrist (Ahead of Jones...for glovework alone)
Warne (Ahead of Giles)
Jones (Ahead of Lee)
Hoggard (Ahead of Gillespie)
McGrath (Ahead of HArmison)

That 7 england and 4 Aussies.

That's why we're gonna win the ashes, and could keep them for decades, as our youngsters appear to have a better pedigree than theirs.

re: OFFICIAL Ashes 4th Test Thread

The way Hayden is playing my Granny could knock him over and she's been dead 41 years....the Barmy Army were in great form again today letting the Ball and Chainers have it at every opportunity.

"to be honest 2 of them shouldnt have been given out..."

To be fair though, it took 25 minutes of computer enhancement to confirm that they were both not out. The human eye could never see or hear the featherlite touches on the bat.

Fact is, our bowlers bowled in the right place and made it swing. Their's didn't. Thats the difference.

Every team gets bad decisions it doesn't make it right of course but never the less you have to live with it..I remember in the second test Pieterson and Bell were both given out in the same over caught behind when both of them never touched it...England are walking all over Australia because they cannot stand up to our bowlers while their bowlers are innefective even Warne is only knocking over the tailenders now...there bottle has gone and there is nothing they can do except pray for rain.

That first ball after the lunch break, when it wasn't given out Brett Lee's face was a picture, if only it could be captured and added to the smilies list. Deffo bat on the ground as well.

PaddlingBack Posted on 27/8 16:35
re: OFFICIAL Ashes 4th Test Thread

Yeah it used to be you had a certain amount of time then the batsmen could complain to the umpire, now I think the umpires are more understanding when the 12th mans on due to injury (Jones)
