re: What was No1 the Day you were born?

The day I was born, 'Stranger In Paradise' by Tony Bennett was number one [ With my arrival it should have been 'Stranger on Earth' if you ask our lass]

The following day 'Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White' by Eddie Calvert took over the no 1 slot, which gives you some clue that I'm well over thirty something. Like thirty-twenty something.

Actually the charts as we know them now only came into existence in Nov 1952, being a list of the top 12 recordings as published in the NME. It became a top 20 in Oct 54 and top 30 in Apr 56.

Prior to 1952 I believe songs were rated on how many copies of the sheet music were sold [ I kid you not].

I just feel sorry for anyone born in the last two weeks who has to live with Chico time being their birthdate no 1.
