did iggy pop do a gig after the hit real wild one ?

also bruce springsteen was rumoured he was going to play at the bowl under another name as he wanted to play small venues, it didn,t go ahead as the tickets would have been to expensive..
mark knopfler played there on the same day as the fa cup final season 1996/97.. and the macc lads were going to get booked around 1990 after the town hall middlesbrough held a gig but the council found out what material they played and didn,t book that one..

I saw Mike Scott from The Waterboys there.

He forgot the words halfway through one song and the encore was cut short after somebody had nicked a pair of his leather trousers from the dressing room whilst he was performing. We then were all searched as we left the building.

Very Spinal Tap.

Whitesnake 79 or 80 - Coverdale's triumphant homecoming
Lindisfarne when they reformed in 76
Steve Hillage after "L" came out - did 2 nights. First was a sell out. 2nd night had about 20 people there.

Heard a great story from my sister who was a copper in the late 80's. Her inspector was watching the darts (as in Eric Bristow) from the Coatham Bowl and saw some trouble kicking off in the crowd. So he got on the phone to Redcar police station and ordered some squad cars down there. When they arrived the place was in complete darkness. It turned out he had been watching the highlights.

Standout gigs I remember seeing at the Bowl were Iggy Pop, the B52s, Squeeze, and Bo Diddley.

Used to go every Sunday night regardless of who was on just to drink and listen to live music with me mates, so for every blistering Bo Diddley gig there was a poor John Miles gig; for every Iggy Pop gig there was a boring Strife gig. etc...

The night I saw John Miles at the Bowl (1978 I think?) he started with lots of atmospheric dry ice and slow build up music, then hit a power chord and the electricity failed and took quarter of an hour to sort out, which ruined his attempt to build an atmosphere.

Ah, The Enid!

Great music. You've just brought back the memory of Robert Godfrey singing Wild Thing and Pretty Vacant as encores.

I saw one of the best gigs I've ever seen there (The Wedding Present) and also the only gig I've attended where everyone sat at tables (The Cowboy Junkies).

Why isn't the Bowl used for gigs anymore?
