Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

In July 2007, I (and 21 other pupils) are going to Africa with my (now ex) school, Acklam Grange. Not only will we be sightseeing around Kenya and Tanzania, but we will be helping a local village school in the village of Lesiraa in Tanzania. We will be taking them exercise books, tables, chairs, writing equipment etc and also money we have raised to help refurbish their school further and make improvements on it.

The cost of this trip for each one of us will be in the region of £1600. To help pay for this, we have been participating in various fundraising activities such as bagpacking in Morrison's and Sainsbury's and a "Boxing Day Dip" at Marske (very cold!!)

Our next fundraising venture is a Race Night on Friday 30th June 2006. It is at Acklam Grange School (off Acklam road) in Stainsby Hall, which is right infront of you as you go through the school gates at the end of Lodore Grove. The time is 7:30pm to 10:30pm and tickets are £4 each for adults and £3 each for under 16's. This should be a great night so if anybody is interested in purchasing tickets please let me know either by posting on here, giving me an "FAO" or emailing me at natarli1@hotmail.com.

Alternatively, if you are the owner of a business or work for a business that may be interested in sponsoring a race, please let me know also. The minimum sponshership fee for each race is £40 and sponsers will get free advertising and will be invited to present the prize to each winning "horse owner".

Thankyou in advance,
Natalie

Have you asked Kader Community Council for a grant to help defray costs of the entire venture? If not, do so. You might well be surprised. Contact the Chaair of Governors and Kader councillor (the same person). John Bate will help you get in touch.

im sure we could club together to sponsor an FMTTM horse.

CrazyL Posted on 16/6 20:32

I don't want the ticket and i'm not sending coins in an envelope.I'm serious though we could raise £500 for you easy if the regulars are willing to put up a mere fiver each.Plenty with a few bob get on here i know.

Natarli1 Posted on 16/6 20:32
re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

No, I'm sorry. It's just basically being there on the night and putting your loose change on horses.

You also get entered into the prize raffle draw!

That would really help me out Crazy and I would be eternally grateful.

whats on offer?!

morkfromork Posted on 16/6 20:34
re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

Could we not use the fmttm paypal account we used for the card display. That way we could all give £5 then someone from fmttm could sort out the total and hand it over.

CrazyL Posted on 16/6 20:34
re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

Good shout Matty-an fmttm horse named 'van nistlerooy'.Work out a way to collect the money Natarli and we'll hoof this til we have a good collection.

Just a thought. I'll give money to you seeing as its for a good cause and i use to go to acklam grange too.

Natarli1 Posted on 16/6 20:39
re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

You are all gorgeous people The second I turn 18 you tell me where you are all gonna be on the next Saturday night, and all drinks will be on me!

I'm not sure what the prizes are going to be Matty, I think it's whatever people donate.

I'm not sure how I could collect the money, as we're doing this through the school, not through anyone else. I'll have to have a think.

morkfromork Posted on 16/6 20:41
re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

If we collected enough maybe you could ask the club to get rob to present a cheque to you on the pitch at the first home game.

Maybe not the club does not like good publicity.

Rumpole_Chutes do you get charged any fees for using the service? Might be a better idea as paypal charge to recive money.

I don't think so plus you get tax bonuses on donations.

Just had a look i didn't realise that. I've never personally used it before it but know others who have and thought it would be of help. Sorry.

Are your school going through a particular charity becuase you can nominate charities.

Natarli1 Posted on 16/6 20:55

No charity unfortunately. The deputy head of the school organsises all the fundraisers etc as he's the one who's taking us.

I used to work at Acklam Grange (left about 6 years ago). I could sell you the secrets of plenty of the staff who are still there though, they could pay me to keep quiet and the money could go to your fund!

CrazyL, so you're Ian's brother then?

I worked with Sam and Hazel in the maths dept (joined AG at the same time as them). I believe I've met you on a couple of occasions!

Haven't you worked it out yet Natarli?! I have!

Btw, stop promoting Swanny beyond his level (I'm guessing it's him organising the trip, seems his kind of thing??), I think he's Assistant Head, Mrs McCoubrey is the Deputy Head!

CrazyL Posted on 16/6 21:19

Natarli she did NOT get chucked at the altar. It was 10 days before.I'd written the funniest speech ever too!

Natarli1 Posted on 16/6 21:20

Mrs McCoubrey is the proper dept. head, but mr swan, mr wain, mrs crosthwaite are also "assistant" heads aka deputy heads.

Miss Thompson?

Goal_Scrounger Posted on 16/6 21:21
re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

No, I got married 14 years ago next week!!

I think one of the times I was there was a house-warnming when they moved to the current house, I seem to remember we all walked round to the pub?

Not sure when the other time was.

Natarli1 Posted on 16/6 21:23
re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

She's gorgy as well. I love her to bits, she's got the driest, sarcastic humour ever. And she didn't grass me up when she saw me at Little Britain Live when I'd bunked off to go shopping and then to see them in Newcastle!!!

CrazyL Posted on 16/6 21:23

Yep, new head came in at Easter. I was amazed by what was going on when I arrived (10 NQT's), and have heard all sorts of stories over the course of the year.

I think our reputation has really suffered over the last few years - talking to the staff who have been there a while it seems that the previous regime was not exactly popular. Things are looking up though, my new HoD is brilliant and the Head is making a really good impression, so hopefully things are moving in the right direction.

I spent a year working in a bar in Majorca after college and had the time of my life, but now I'm back home with my sensible head on, and I'm on the property ladder with a 'proper job'.(Although I'm very tempted to go back to Majorca!!)
Im working as a sales executive for a construction company

You sound like you're doing well for yourself, we all knew you would though!

Pollock_Legend Posted on 17/6 10:58
re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

Sounds like you've had a great time - I can see why Majorca would prove tempting!

The problem with working in a school is the content filter on the Internet, so browsing this site in my free lessons is a definite no-no. Things aren't looking too bad at the moment - the first six months were tough, but I think I'm just about getting used to it now.

"The property ladder" - I've heard of that, but on my poor teacher's salary getting on it is a distant dream! I could cry when I think about the amount of my salary that goes out in rent!

re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

So what do you teach then?

Are you still in the Acklam area?

Im not sure many of our other teachers would agree with GS comments about me being quiet. I seem to remember I was quite an immature annoyance to most of them.

Lol, the impression I have of you is quite different Sophie. You always seemed to have a very mature sense of humour to me. Mind you, I guess it helps if you get along with the teacher and I was never above taking the pizz out of pupils during lessons. Can't believe you fell for the "long stand" though!

re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

I teach History - I blame Mr Shaw.

Living in Hartlepool at the moment - certainly not through choice (it's crap), but for purely practical reasons. To my shame I have not yet bothered to learn to drive, and there were no History jobs going in Middlesbrough at the end of last year. I had an interview for a job at good old AG a couple of months ago, but didn't get it, so it's another year in sunny nuclear Hartlepool for me.

I think you're being a bit harsh on yourself there - I remember you as being fairly quiet but with an absolutely insane laugh. You were always good for a conversation about the Boro as well.

Do you still see anyone else from our year? I lost touch with far too many people when I went to uni.

re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

Still good mates with Melissa ( who is far less annoying than she used to be!), Catherine M, Lianne H, Jayne C, Helen S, Sophie R, Bev W, Lisa G, and Emma B.

Are you still in touch with anyone then?

re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

Still good mates with Phil B - shared a house with him for two years at uni in York, which was a great laugh. He's living down there now, which is great for when I fancy revisiting all our old haunts and crashing on his floor.

I bump into the odd old face from time to time, but haven't really kept in touch with anyone else. Most of the people I keep in touch with are people I met at uni.

re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

I saw Phil B in York on a night a few years back, when I was visiting Lianne H at uni.

I see the likes of Cooper and Banksy out and about in the town, but nobody else really.

Anyway, must dash, I'm going out for a bit of retail therapy, courtesy of Mr Barclaycard. Nice speaking to you, and GS, no doubt we'll speak again.

He's at Manor now. He was one of the millions who left a couple of years ago.

It will be a great night I'm sure. Many of the teachers will be there also, think of it as a reunion!

There's a chance I may be there if Mr Powner goes!

re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

Not sure if he's going, unless someone's sold him a ticket. Mr Swan will definitely be there though.

Yeah thats right GS.He had one or two issues with the old head.Remember during the last world cup he said he would instantly suspend any pupil bunking off to watch the Brazil quarter final.

One last time.... Ticket anyone?

re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

I would Natarli, but I'm away in Spain when its on.

I started Blakeston in September 76, same day as Swanny. Played for his basketball team for five years, even ran the odd cross country for him. Drew the line at gymnastics mind. He had just the right mix of enthusiasm and discipline that makes a great teacher.

And he took us to the lakes as well. As I say, top man.

re: Acklam Grange School Race Night Tickets!

No worries Piggy

You're right he is. He has the perfect balance between being able to have a laugh and then being able to discipline when necessary.
