I saw us play at Pisa away in the Anglo Italian Cup in late 1993

Pisa 3 Boro 1 (Mustoe)

re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

You mean Morris?

Shaun71 Posted on 26/6 17:05
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

BB75, I have to admit until you said it I didnt realise he was on the bench.

I just googled Doncaster Rovers 1987 and Deanes name was the first I saw. Thought it had to be him

Shaun71 Posted on 26/6 17:05
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Nope it was definitely Robbie Mustoe

captain5 Posted on 26/6 17:05
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Grimsby away in the Anglo Italian Cup. End of August 2003 I think, as I went back to college a week or two after.

Got beat 2-1.

I'll also lay claim to a non-Boro match, when we got promoted. Stoke V Bolton in May 1995.

Shaun71 Posted on 26/6 17:06
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Although in the history book it says Hendrie although Im sure it was Mustoe

WilmslowRed Posted on 26/6 17:08
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Anyone else apart from me manage to get into the away game at Kenilworth Road when Luton had the Membership Scheme in place in October 1988 ? There was a small knot of Boro fans in the end opposite me - I borrowed a membership card for the home end.

BoroTommo Posted on 26/6 17:09

Is that the game we lost 4-0 on the plastic "pitch"?

Shaun71 Posted on 26/6 17:11

No we got beat 1-0 that day, I remember getting tonked 5-1 there I think in Robbos 1st season

BoroTommo Posted on 26/6 17:12

Didn't we lose 6-1 at QPR, or was that the previous season?

*memory blurred by alcohol*

Lisbonlegend Posted on 26/6 17:13

I went to that 5-1 tonking, oh dear we were rubbish. Didn't Derek Whyte score at both ends?

blotonthelandscape Posted on 26/6 17:14
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

I was definately at Luton for a night match, wasn“t 20 years ago though, 0-0, about 50 Boro supporters there.

Shaun71 Posted on 26/6 17:16
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Weve had a couple of good hidings at QPR.

We got hammered 6-1 in March 1983 when we had to wear orange tops and then 5-0 in March 1998, which came 3 days after a 4-0 reverse at Forest. Not one of Andy Dibbles greatest weeks that one

captain5 Posted on 26/6 17:18
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

The 5-1 was when Wilko scored at both ends.

Shaun71 Posted on 26/6 17:18
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Our only recent games at Luton have been

0-1 Feb 1989
1-1 Mar 1994
1-5 Oct 1994

blotonthelandscape Posted on 26/6 17:21
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Which of the 2 in 1994 was a night match?, and 0-0, or was it 1-1?

Shaun71 Posted on 26/6 17:22
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

The 1-1 draw in 1994 was a night match. I was there myself, courtesy of the good ol raras

blotonthelandscape Posted on 26/6 17:27
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Sat behind the goal, in the “sparse“ terracing? another cracker was at Grimsby a few years earlier, we got a good hiding and sat on wooden seats behind the goal, 2-0.

In hindsight, the bad outways the good about 4 to 1.

Shaun71 Posted on 26/6 17:28
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

4-0 drubbings at Southampton and Portsmouth used to rile me no end on those lovelyy journeys back home

blotonthelandscape Posted on 26/6 17:35
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Now there are 2 grounds I have never been to or QPR.

10 visits to Liverpool/Everton, never saw a win infact the draw at everton was in the cup and they beat us the following week, 4 to Sunderland only seen wins, Arse give us a good hiding every time I go, Man U not bad, even seen us lose at Wrexham, although we always seem to beat Peterborough when I go, and Maine Rd is too nasty to remember,FFS the cash I have wasted.

borobadge Posted on 26/6 18:08
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

i was also @ the wycombe away game...

barnet away in the coca cola cup ?..or the f.a. cup replay on a tue/wed night @ bishop stortford..shearer got both goals after a 2-2 draw..stephen bell scored both goals in the home game..

but the difficult one, well nigh on impossible as boro (away) fans were banned, was @ millwall on the sunday after the luton v. millwall riot on the previous tue/wed night......

7_The_Informer Posted on 26/6 18:18

I was also at the Wycombe and Barnet games.

It was League Cup 2nd Round 2nd leg in 1998 (22/9/98)and was 1-1
We went through though as we'd won the 1st leg 2-0 but the Wycombe fans thought they were gonna win when they went 1-0 up

Norwich City away - 17 March 1980 lost 2-0. Midweek first game after the wolves 6th round replay defeat. The PA kept reminding us we could have come in the same taxi and that there were more police than Boro fans in the away end! Bit rich that coming from Norwich!

Any chance of giving us a list of the rarest in the last 20-25 years with approx value Shaun off the top of your head.

Shaun71 Posted on 26/6 20:37
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

They will be very approx figures bp as I suppose they are only worth what people will pay for them.

Off the top of my head the rare progs from recent years are

Boro v Chelsea 04/05 £25-30 on ebay
Boro v Xanthi 05/06 £5-10
Boro v Man Utd 91/92 LC Semi £20-25
Newport v Boro 86/87 £10-15
Boro v Man Utd - All 3 games in 98/99 season due to their treble (£10-15)
Macclesfield v Boro 00/01 LC £7-10

Theres probably more, Ill have a look through the list and post something in a couple of days time

Coventry Reserves vs Boro Reserves 1987ish.

I lived in Coventry at the time and can categorically state that me and my mate were the only Boro fans there.

Jastie Posted on 26/6 23:04
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Consett 2 Middlesbrough 2, c. April 1947.

My mate Ken (East Stand season ticket holder until last season) was there. Boro sent the first team to play a reserve match, because the Reserves had to play two games on the last day of the season due to the bad winter. They needed 3 points from 2 games to win the (Northern?) league. The Reserves played at somewhere like Blackhall Colliery and won, so the draw at Consett gave them the title.

Mannion, Hardwick and Co turned up in a Fleet of taxis, and after the match Mannion went and had his tea at a relative's house in Consett.

Tell that to the kids of today and they wouldn't believe you.

RiffRaff Posted on 26/6 23:12
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

If were down to reserve level : West Brom away about 4 years ago. I think me and my lad were the only Boro fans there. We got in for free using baggies season tickets from a mate. Lost 1 - 0 even though we battered them.

danholh Posted on 26/6 23:16
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Sorry Goal_scrounger I alsi did the St.Mirren 0-0 friendly. Me and five mates on a drunken weekend to Glasgow followed by Hearts v Linfield a couple of days later. Absolutly dire. Got comp tickets from Bernie Slaven! after seeing him and Gary Hamilton? in the local chippee before the match.

Anyone go to Swansea for a Friday night game. Can't remember the score. Remeber going to a beach type area in Swansea. Is this true or has my memory gone!

Other one Cardiff many moons ago, we lost but I recall counting the Boro fans in the standing enclosure - 17 hardy souls. Add to that the 12 of us in the main stand and that makes 29. Went with the Ra Ras, in a sort of 20 seater. So few of us that the players gave us all tickets for the Directors box. May have been the season we where in div 3, or possinly the year before when we went down.

re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

The game I refer to at Rochdale was not freight rover, this game was defintely a friendly.Played on a Friday night. April 15 1988 to be precise. Boro won 3-0 with goals from Senior and Slaven. Attendence 843.

We were actualy second in the league but our poor start to the season meant we missed the cutoff point to qualify for the Merdcantile Credit.

Further research, the Freight Rover game was the season before.

i was going to mention the China game already posted by newjersey so what about a game at Ayresome Park against one of the American soccer teams possibly Tampa bay. I am sure some ex English players played possibly Dennis Tueart. Further info would be appreciated.
Another one was Queen of the South away when Heine otto made his debut we won 1 - 0 but this has been mentioned previously by me and others as only handful of Boro fans were present.

re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Middlesbrough vs Leeds FA Cup Final

1972

My bedroom, 15 minutes after bedtime.

I was down to mark Peter Lorimer out of the game, and did a damn fine job. He hardly got a kick, apart from one blistering free-kick from 20 yards that evaded our keeper (Ted Bear) and was heading for the top corner until I pulled off a miraculous diving header.

Things looked bad when we went 1-0 down to an offside goal in the last minute (Allan Clarke!!), but fortunately I scored a hat-trick and we won.

My interview whilst holding a bottle of milk was fantastic in the circumstances - and secured me the opportunity to win the Eurovision Song Contest the following week.

It also meant that Dawn in my class began to fancy me instead of Andy Brown.

Happy days!

Got to see all North Korea's WC games in 66 @ Ayresome too, thanks to my mate's dad being "well in" at Boro at the time, and watch the vid to show my lad's mates where we were sat in the North Stand!!

I can remember seeing a few people in the bar under the main stand at East Fife.

re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Jaime Moreno's debut @ Feethams pre-season 94 and
Nick Barmby's debut @ Motherwell pre-season 95

Scarboro, I think we played Raith a couple of pre-seasons? We were on hols @ Kirkcaldy(why??) for a week when they won 1-0, and some guys from Boro (can't call 'em fans) kicked off big time with the local plods after the game, cos they'd been kept in the ground.....

re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Charlton away on a Friday night in mid 1980's.

Can't remember anything about the game other than I arrived on my own arond 45 minutes before kick off and they opened the turnstile to let me in.

I think a few more people turned up later but it was strange standing on my own in what was quite a big away end for about 10/15 minutes.

Oxford Utd last game of season 1967, big crowd but a long time ago.

Wimbledon away in the FA Cup sometime in the late 70s when they were still non-league

FW_2 I know what you mean
We won 1-0 but the travelling there and back seemed to take forever - imagine coming back if we'd lost

"Oxford Utd last game of season 1967, big crowd but a long time ago."

I was one of the lucky ones who got in, too, DD! 4-1 Givusa-Goal hat trick, and Big John with the other. Stacks locked out. Gave the attendance as 40,000 as I remember, but must've been a few k on top of that.

Very nearly my last Boro game as well, as the NE wall collapsed near us; amazing that no-one seriously hurt, as that area was packed with kids.

re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Walsall v northampton 28/12/1992. Walsall won 2-0 and it was bloody freezing.

For the boro how about a pre season freindly against seattle storm. 1987 we won 2-1. The programe was just a printed sheet with pen pictures of the seattle team.

Nearly forgot the Stockton v Celtic ledgends with danny mcgrain playing. Not sure what year or why i ended up watching.

TC: Newport away, I was not sure if it was Slaven or Mowbray so you will be right. I am from Billingham and I went in a car with 4 Fairfield lads.

Wilmslow - I was at Luton when away fans were banned. I thought there was a few hundered Boro there that day. Got talking to a lad I know from the Englands games, and got three of us in.

boro_newjersey - I did the China game. Was it the year after we won the Tokyo cup? Anyway, I think I stiil have the programme

Chesterfield and Hull, Full members cup, around 87

We shall over come.

Do you go to Newport in an Austin Metro with those lads from Fairfield?

TeessideCleveland Posted on 28/6 0:24
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Paul Sugrue was sub for Newport that day I think
I went with my Dad and remember reading the programme in the pub beforehand and Sugrue had just joined them

Boam scores
I Cannot remember the car. But the said lads all drank in the Fairfield. Went to Gillingham via a Redcar night club with them.

re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

I remember the Newport game.

Was that the game when there were 3 sets of fans in the ground due to another game being postponed at the last minute. I can remember them doing the conga.

It was Mowbray with the last minute winner too

weshallovercome Posted on 28/6 10:28
re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Boamscores
CS was definately in the car. H drove I think.

I think the other set of fans in the ground were Exeter.

England U18 v Scotland U18, Feethams about 1965, aged 7, the only game my dad ever took me to. Apart from Seaton Carew and Redcar it was the first time I left Middlesbrough, I thought Darlington was a foriegn country.

Anyone else get to Preston away at the end of the 1973-74 season.

A 4-2 win for the last day of the season.

Bernie's testimonial. No bugger there for that one... and it still hurts.

re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

Sometime around 1969 or 70 a reserve home match against Chesterfield reserves where Boro put out full 1st team as weather postponements meant they had gone 3 or 4 weeks without a game. Struggled to a 3-2 victory with one of Chesterfield goals scored by John Hickton's nephew/brother Roy.

re: Can you name a fixture nobody else off here

I was also at Preston in 1974, last year at school and we got a bus trip up. Also went to Luton that season the day we won promotion. My first 2 away games, I thought they would be all like that especially when my 3rd was Brum away, the 1st game back in the First Division, and we won 3-0
