Accident waiting to happen.

Her husband was one of those blokes
The sort that only laughs at his own jokes
The sort that war takes away
And when there wasn't a war, he left anyway!

I saw two shooting stars last night,
I wished on them, but they were only satellites,
It's wrong to wish on space hardware,
I wish, I wish, I wish you cared

Thought it was 'older' not 'uglier'. Or am I missing something.

You privatise away what is ours, what it ours
You privatise away what is ours
You privatise away and then you make us pay
We'll take it back some day
Mark my words, mark my words
We'll take it back some day, mark my words

Death gazes down as I pass by,
To remind me that I'm but my Fathers son.

Those braying voices on the right of the House
Are echoed down the Street of Shame
Where politics mix with bingo and tits
In a strictly money and numbers game

Where they offer you a feature
On stockings and suspenders
Next to a call for stiffer penalties for sex offenders

it says here..

Now the space race is over
it's been and it's gone
and I'll never get to the moon
now the space race is over
and I can't help but wonder
if we've all grown up to soon!!

I reckon it's 'older' too

There's two versions of it, I think. Album and single version, with different lyrics.

Three faves. In reverse order:

No.3 —
I confronted her about it
I said, "I'm the most illegible bachelor in town"
And she said
"Yeah that's why I could never understand any of those silly letters you sent me"
And then one day it happened
She cut her hair and I stopped loving her

[Walk Away Rene Version]

No. 2 —
There is no real substitute
For a ball struck squarely and firmly
And you're the kind of girl who wants to
open up the bottle of pop
Too early in the journey
Our love went flat just like that

[A Lover Sings]

And the winner...

No.1 —
But I never made the first team,
I just made the first team laugh
And she never came to the phone
She was always in the bath
In the end, it took me a dictionary
To find out the meaning of unrequited
While she was giving herself for free
At a party to which I was never invited

[The Saturday Boy]

re: Billy Bragg lyrics

While we're indulging in Billy Bragg I saw him at the Sage recently on his anti racism tour. It was just after the semi-final and the Boro v Steaua game and obviously he was buzzing about getting to Wembley, but he was full of praise for the Boro in spite of the mutterings by all the geordies. He also did a great vaudeville version of 'I'm forever blowing bubbles'. Top bloke.

The temptation to take the precious things we have apart to see how they work
Must be resisted for they never fit together again

If this is rain let it fall on me and drown me
If these are tears let them fall

Must I paint you a picture about the way that I feel
You know my love for you is strong girl
You know my love for you is real

Must I paint you a picture

ANOTHER cracker there, Fatsuma.

For someone who was known as a political singer, (and I agree with him on most things), he is a brilliant lyricist when it comes to a bloke's perspective on matters of the heart. A much better love-song writer than a protest singer.

It took a short walk and a talk
To change the rules of engagement
While you searched frantically for reverse and them claiming
That virtue never tested is no virtue at all

Must I Paint you a Picture?

Mother shakes her head and reads aloud from the newspaper
As Father puts another lock on the door
And reflects upon the violent times that we are living in
While chatting with the wife beater next door
If paradise to you is cheap beer and overtime
Home truths are easily missed
Something that every football fan knows
It only takes five fingers to form a fist

"With my own hands
When I make love to your memory
It's not the same
I miss the thunder
I miss the rain
And the fact that you don't understand
Casts a shadow over this land
But the sun still shines from behind it"

"I steal a kiss from you in the supermarket
I walk you down the aisle, you fill my basket
And through it all, the stick I take Is worth it for the love we make"

"The next day we went on a bus ride to the ferry
And when nobody came to collect our fares
Well I knew then this was something special
I couldn't stop thinking about her
And every time I switched on the radio
There was somebody else singing a song about the two of us
"

and from the Woodie Guthrie stuff

"Ingrid Bergman, Ingrid Bergman,
let's go make a picture
On the island of Stromboli, Ingrid Bergman

Ingrid Bergman, you're so perty,
you'd make any mountain quiver
You'd make fire fly from the crater,
Ingrid Bergman

This old mountain it's been waiting
All its life for you to work it
For your hand to touch its hardrock,
Ingrid Bergman, Ingrid Bergman

If you'll walk across my camera,
I will flash the world your story,
I will pay you more than money, Ingrid Bergman

Not by pennies dimes nor quarters,
but with happy sons and daughters,
And they'll sing around Stromboli,
Ingrid Bergman"

Just for the blatant sexual inuendo and the fact that Mr Guthrie wrote a song about want to shag Ingrid Bergman..

re: Billy Bragg lyrics

It says here that the unions will never learn
It says here that the economy is on the upturn
And it says here we should be proud
That we are free
And our free press reflects our democracy

Those braying voices on the right of the house
Are echoed down the street of shame
Where politics mix with bingo and tits
In a strictly money and numbers game

Where they offer you a feature
On stockings and suspenders
Next to a call for stiffer penalties for sex offenders

It says here that this year's prince is born
It says here do you ever wish
That you were better informed
And it says here that we can only stop the rot
With a large dose of law and order
And a touch of the short sharp shock

If this does not reflect you view you should understand
That those who own the papers also own this land
And they'd rather you believe
In coronation street capers
In the war of circulation, it sells newspapers
Could it be an infringement
Of the freedom of the press
To print pictures of women in states of undress

When you wake up to the fact
That you paper is tory
Just remember, there are two sides to every story
