Just got back from the gym and I think this must have been supposed to be live on sky. They showed the outfield and it was looking pretty soggy.

Then showing clips from lancs vs kent in 95 BandH final.

A very youthful looking Glen Chapple was bowling, watkinson looked old then and Ian Austin still loked like a an overweight nightclub doorman.

It was (the Sky thing).

I bet they aren't showing the Lancashire groundsman sneaking out there with a watering can when no one is looking (well, obviously).

Back in 1995, we needed 200 to win with 10 wickets in hand on the final day. i turns up at the ground and the game is cancelled. I look up at the sky, not a cloud. The official explanation was that it rained overnight and somehow got under the covers .... The cheating barstewards have been at it for decades.

The only good thing about the day was that Boro were playing at Tranmere so I got to go there and see us win whilst being in the stand full of children.

Typically underhand. They've delayed the start so only a one innings match is possible. They've fixed the toss. And they've left the pitch damp enough to ensure we'll be lucky to get even one batting point. Then it will rain again.

Capybara Posted on 11/7 9:28
re: Lancashire V YORKSHIRE.

I hope they go for the bonus points and bat on. If they decide to go down the innings forfeit and try for a result route, they would still need upwards of 300 to make a game of it, I reckon.

T4Tomo Posted on 11/7 12:39
re: Lancashire V YORKSHIRE.

approaching 300 (299-8) so 3 bonus points looks on but 4 may be beyond us.

I wouldn't bother with the innings forfeit route - still likely to be a draw, so just go for the draw points and second innings bowling points. If Lancy have batting points to go and no risk of losing, we are ironically more likely to get them 6 or 9 down for 2 or 3 bowling points.

Cricinfo have got the score at 240-5

Capybara Posted on 11/7 18:13
re: Lancashire V YORKSHIRE.

The match report is ahead of the 'live' scorecard on BBC. FFS.

And these scorecards never give the details of how long (in overs) is left when there's a chase on. Are Hampshire nearly there or is there only one ball left, for instance? Eh?

Capybara Posted on 11/7 18:46
re: Lancashire V YORKSHIRE.

They seem to have sorted it out, now. Yorkshire 13 points ahead. A big game agains Warwickshire coming up at the weekend.

T4Tomo Posted on 12/7 11:04
re: Lancashire V YORKSHIRE.

13 points ahead but only 15 points separate the top 6 teams. Very very tight.

Bloody Law. He looked set to get the bonus point then turned to shi t in the last over. That full toss should have been dispatched to the boundary.

Spoff_MFC Posted on 12/7 11:15
re: Lancashire V YORKSHIRE.

saw the last few overs, Rashid looks good.

Bumble was saying he should go to Sri Lanka this winter as a second spinner He can bat and field where as Panesar isn't too great, Rashid could pass Monty as 1st choice on the next 12 months.

Capybara Posted on 12/7 11:26
re: Lancashire V YORKSHIRE.

There's a debate going on about whether he should be pushed into the England setup or if he should be allowed to develop a bit more first. If David Lloyd is saying he should be called up, then that's good enough to convince me that he should be allowed to develop.

I trust there'll be a thread here tomorrow for the next game now that you are unbanned Mr ray. There isn't an old one to resurrect this time.

7_The_Informer Posted on 12/7 14:38
re: Lancashire V YORKSHIRE.

Have had difficulty following the threads due to new job and work commitments thereof. Still planning on being at Headingley a week on Sunday though I am still waiting for my trip to be approved even though I fly on Friday (Uncle Sam is beginning to pi$$ me off over this). Anyroad, if I do fly, then I may also make the Sunday of the Warwicks game. It's amazing, hotels paid for, conference fee paid for, unrefundable flights paid for, all may go to waste ...

re: Lancashire V YORKSHIRE.

Just been told verbally that my trip is approved - still have to wait for an e-mail though

Mind, assuming that I will now be going, then I am really looking forward to Sunday (if we don't beat the scummy Bears inside 2 days that is). I could go to the game on Saturday but had better visit me grandmother in the nursing home ...

Back in 1995 I had a membership at Warwicks and went to almost every game (at Uni there) and got to know the players at the time (Paul Smith, Keith Piper, Dermot ...). Anyroad, the next season I didn't get a membership before the season and went down at the first game to purchase one (worked out about £1 per game as I was a student). Anyroad, the gadgies on the gate recognised me and just let me in so I didn't need to pay. Spent the rest of the season getting in for free. I also have spent a lot of time there perfecting my leggies and my cover drives in the indoor nets (> 150 hours in total over the last 5 years) so I wonder if I can still get in for free (you can take a man out of Yorkshire, but you can't take the Yorkshire out of the man ....).

Come on You White Rose ...

re: Lancashire V YORKSHIRE.

Paul Smith, eh? Hello.

7_The_Informer Posted on 12/7 15:33
re: Lancashire V YORKSHIRE.

Paul Smith - also known at Patboy.

I won't explain, it is a very long story.

Of course, with Dermot and Smith, the dressing-room windows were often clouded ....

Capybara Posted on 12/7 15:34
re: Lancashire V YORKSHIRE.

Indeed.

He has an autobiography out, you know.

7_The_Informer Posted on 12/7 15:38
re: Lancashire V YORKSHIRE.

Yeah, I saw some big article on the BBC about it/him. I will purchase it when I am back and see if I am mentioned . Mind, I won't be purchasing it in the bookshop at Edgbaston as they refuse to carry it. The gadge who carries the 2nd hand books might have it though (he next to the main entrance at Edgbaston if you've ever been). He told me once that he sells more books when Yorkshire are in town than the rest of the county championship season combined. Mind, I always used to part with 100 notes over the course of the season with him, buying books for my "mastermind" topic of books on Bobby Peel, George Herbert Hirst, Wilfred Rhodes, Hedley Verity and the likes. Anything by A. A. Thomson is fantastic and I would recommend it to any Yorkie.

re: Lancashire V YORKSHIRE.

Forgot to say that he does a lot of good work in the slums in LA. It's amazing how he has got those kids involved. Thankfully, cricket is already pretty big here in New York and that is not needed, especially in Brooklyn.
