red_rebel2 Posted on 19/7 23:48
re: Board Best Ever Posters XI

"sustained period". All Bandito's good work was done in a six month spurt of Meldrewesque indignation. Since then it has just been teh same few themes over and over again. A bit like Status Quo.

What about itasmore and yarm legend?

red_rebel2 Posted on 19/7 23:56
re: Board Best Ever Posters XI

Stary was a creative if unstable genius who demanded a reaction. His descent into madness and his on-line implosion remains the most gripping drama ever seen in cyber-space. It was a major landmark in the board's cultural history.

Itsamore was poor really, famous only for one widely ridiculed claim about 'the elders'. Yarm Legend was an over-promoted geography student who had a good point but made it badly.

I'm honoured to make the starting line-up, but I don't think I should be No. 9. I think of myself more as a classic Boro No. 11... gifted but fat, lazy, mercurial and over-rated. Y'know... Ravanelli, Boksic, Alan Moore.

Number 7 eh, the Murdoch shirt.

A bit tight around the middle, but I'll settle for that.

Someone will need to do my running for me though.

And once again Mr Fischer beats me to it. I sense a board with my number being held up soon.

re: Board Best Ever Posters XI

bandito's absence is akin to Gasgoigne's omission from the '98 World Cup squad. He should be in there without a doubt. See also: speckyget.

It's an impressive squad, albeit an ageing one with a few fading stars. Some may need to be replaced with younger blood. jeff_potato and Mr_Incident are both underrated and have showed more wit and intelligence individually than half of that lot put together - quiet and industrious messageboard work horses. Get littlejimmy in there too, and Lefty3668. Make Gillandi captain and get Fischer orchestrating things from midfield. Likewise, cogga, red_rebel and uncle_harry need to be brought off the bench. All are easily worthy of a first-team start.

Fischer Posted on 20/7 0:06
re: Board Best Ever Posters XI

That's what us No. 11s specialise in, Rebel. Now fetch my hairdryer and clear a path from the changing room to the training ground so I don't have to make eye contact with any of the reserves.

Revol, I know you, LJ and Lefty are busting a gut for a chance after an excellent season in the stiffs. Bide your time. You could be our Mogga/Cooper/Pallister Golden Generation.

This manager can't have long with such confusing squad selections.

I can hear the murmurings of discontent, "square pegs and round holes", "Give the youth a chance", "Not allowing competition for places", "The team needs some real quality".

Not promising for a manager who never really managed to capture the publics imagination or affection, despite winning the fanzine cup in 2005.

Pretty much agree with that RR(2).

However I would add 'sausage', simply for the genius of the 8 dart finish. Capy, and Forza/Tweek deserve a honourable mention.

red_rebel2 Posted on 20/7 9:08
re: Board Best Ever Posters XI

Dybuks: most of these are pre-Prem Pathe News posters: ALB, TV, Stary. If anything there is a dearth of young posters from the dumbed down generation text shouty me me me modern board.

Sauasage's eight darter was one of those one off worldbeating displays of brilliance, like Alan Moore against Darlo.

Why has no one challenged Willoughby. His shirt is the most vulnerable I think.

Capybara Posted on 20/7 9:09

It was sossages, blotto, with that piece of genius. But a bit of a Marinelli, I would venture. And I don't know quite how to take being mentioned in the same breath as forza but I'll try and be positive about it. Think of myself as more of an honest, 500 appearances, hardworking, non-league midfielder to be fair.
