There appears to be quite a few of us living down here, i've noticed Heaton Mersey / Wilmslow and Cheadle in your usernames. How many more of us are out there?

Everyone knows that Manchester goes from Bolton in the North to just before Stockport in the south.

It doesnt go to just before Stockport in the South, its goes exactly to Stockport on the South, there's not a no mans land in betweeny bit seperating them.

Fallowfield used to be be really good, even for non students.

But the place went downhill a few years ago when loads of scrotey mancs started to drink there. Went from being very studenty to rough as f__k in a fairly short space of time.

Had a fairly enjoyable 7 months there.

WilmslowRed Posted on 20/7 15:46
re: South Manchester Boro

I'm in Didsbury now, near the Four in Hand / Northern Tennis Club - someone had blagged Didsbury Red as a user name before me. I go to the matches with Dean Glovers Studs and suck_my_boro_rock who both live round the corner on Lapwing Lane / Palatine Road.

I know Cheadle_Red as well - he used to be Gatley_Red but moved to the other side of the A34 last year.

How many of you almost shat yourself during last night's fookoffbigthunderstorm by the way ??? (raises hand)

Smifter Posted on 20/7 15:47

I used to go out with someone from Didsbury, I think he lived on Burton Road or something like that.

re: South Manchester Boro

I managed to avoid Fallowfield, whilst a student - living as I did in Victoria Park.

My local was this gay bar, where you had to prove your homo credentials before they would allow you to work behind the bar.

They had this one barman, camp as tents he was.

captain5 Posted on 20/7 15:52

Apparently that wasn't a gar bar, they just let people in with flat caps who seemed to prefer fat (ie fag hags) rather than pretty women.

Barman was camp as tents, mind.

re: South Manchester Boro

Im in Davenport, Stockport, and have been for the last four months.

That storm was quite impressive, actually, blew my flat front door open! Rain came in through the windows, it was chaos for about 3 minutes!

Some people mentioned it around the time of the UEFA cup final, but there isnt a North West Boro fans group. Would there be much demand for one as the new season is beginning?

heaton_mersey_boro Posted on 20/7 16:44
re: South Manchester Boro

This North West Boro fans group thingy has been mooted for a while now, and nothing has ever come of it.

Problem has been logistics for a lot of folk - a few in Warrington, few dotted about various parts of north Manc and Lancashire etc. Trying to get a venue sorted may prove to be the difficulty. Majority do seem to be around South Manchester and Stockport area.

I personally suggest The Griffin in Heaton Mersey, crap beer and all.................problem is its a big Man City pub!

Keep this hoofed, see if anthing can be sorted.

Max_Headroom Posted on 20/7 16:49
re: South Manchester Boro

Well there is potential there, even if it is just to meet up in a pub when Boro are on telly. You know, small beginnings and all that.

There must be a decent few Boro fans heading to the Manchester Uni's in September, and just wandering around Stockport I have seen 2 or 3 boro tops this summer.

I'm flexible enough to give support to any suggestions, or even take the lead if needs be...

I'm in Hazel Grove, which is the southern most part of Manchester before you get to the green fields.

BoroinCheadle Posted on 20/7 23:09
re: South Manchester Boro

Right, let's have some action then!

who's up for a friendly game of footie in South Manchester/North Cheshire then?

We could meet up for a kick about in a local park (nothing too serious because I'm not very good!). Then we could retire to a local hostelry for a few beers - Heaton can knock back a few pints of Holts. We might even let Bolton fans play Mick.

Riverside_SK8er Posted on 21/7 8:08
re: South Manchester Boro

BinC,

I'll be up for that.

Or, there must be at least 10 of us Boro fans, so book a 5-a-side pitch (Powerleague Stockport, Pitz Ardwick or Trafford Centre) for a gentle knock about :-) one night followed by a couple of beers.

(I can just see H_M_B tear-ar5*** from the Powerleague up Didsbury Road to The Griffin)

OK Riverside - we have a game! One-a-side at the moment!

Currently living in Withington but moving to Didsbury on Saturday. Count me in for the football

heaton_mersey_boro Posted on 21/7 8:51
re: South Manchester Boro

Definately be up for the footy.

The Powerleague in Stockport would be probably be the best bet as the JJB (Trafford Centre) is more expensive and be a little bit of a problem booking a court for a sensible time. The Pitz at Ardwick is okay - depending when folk want a game; quite a few leagues there if I remember rightly, can get busy.

BoroinCheadle - no need for the "Holts" thing

Riverside_SK8er - by "tear-ar5***"ing I hope you meant in the car - the days of walking anywhere are fast fading. Especially after footy.

The little bar at the Powerleague is quite good for an after match drink.

Lets get something sorted.

Max_Headroom Posted on 21/7 8:57
re: South Manchester Boro

I'll be up for the footy, just name a place and time and I will see what I can do.

Stockport Boro - I remember that, but I can't remember if it was for the Semi (an absolutely cracking night in the jolly) or the final (an equally terrible night involving drunken phone calls and vomit)?

What is Boro's first match on TV this season?

If there was enough of us, do you reckon we could find and convince a pub landlord who has dodgy satelites (sp?) to screen Boro games?

sponski2000 Posted on 21/7 9:02
re: South Manchester Boro

Count me in for the footy. PowerLeague Stockport is best for me too. We could maybe get Southgate down to poach some of the talent so Gibbo can carry on his dream team of local talent!!!

heaton_mersey_boro Posted on 21/7 9:02

Boro's first live Sky match of the season is the Monday night Pompey match.

And to answer your previous quesion to Boro_in_Norton, he was dragged up on the Glebe Estate, just down the road from The Centenary. Or should that be dragged up in The Centenary, just up the road from the Glebe Estate?

Trafford Bar here, would be interested in footy match and/or watching boro in the pub (Weekdays only).

Btw, I drive back to Boro (Acklam) most Fridays and return to Manchester (Trafford Bar) on Mondays, so if any of you are currently using the delights of the Trans Pennine Express, let me know and we could car share.

BoroinCheadle Posted on 21/7 10:16

The Powerleague in Stockport is looking favourite then - let's see how many people are intereted and then we'll get something booked.

ERG - I'm no spring chicken either so don't let that put you off playing - we can go in goal when we need a breather!

The Portsmouth game on Monday 28th August will be "Boro NW's" first social! We need a venue. There's a pub called the Kennilworth in Cheadle Hulme - not a great pub but they always have the footy on and have lots of screens.

When I was in Eindhoven I had a flag with "Cheadle Smoggies" on and a guy from Bramhall stopped for a chat. Are you out there Bramhall?

Will be looking to be at the Chelsea match (midweek), but first Saturday match will be (hopefully) Blackburn on the 23rd Sept; after that it will be The Geordies on 21st October.

Will you be out for a for a couple afterwards or will it be straight home? Head into Norton after if it is easier for you. Look out for a f_a_o nearer the time.

On the football front, all the pitches at Powerleague in Stockport are 5-a-side, 6 at a push. If we get more, the armitage centre in fannyfield has an 11-a-side astroturf pitch and is cheap.

If we enjoy it we can try and make it a regular thing every week/month whatever. Could probably do with a pool of about 16 players because not everyone will be able to make it each week.

re: South Manchester Boro

I've spoken to Powerleague in Stockport. For a one off game you can't book more than a week in advance. So I'll have to phone this coming Monday for Monday 31st July. 9pm timing shouldn't be a problem she told me. (Changed times for sausages!)

It costs 48 an hour and I'll have to pay this in advance because it's a one off booking. If we decide to make it a regular thing then we can block book 10 weeks at a time and pay week by week on the night.

I'm going to be on holiday from Aug 3rd to Aug 17th. I suggest that we go for it on 31st July as planned and if it's a success then we can go for a block booking once I'm back?

Please can you all confirm by Monday if you can play on 31st July and I'll then book the pitch if we get atleast 8 players.

Nice one Oh Well - you wern't even on my original list so that makes up for Max_Headroom not being available that week. Gents, we now have a game of 2 aside on Monday 31st July!

One question on the etiquette of crossing over from cyberspace to reality - do we introduce ourselves using our real names or am I destined to be called Cheadle for ever more?

Max_Headroom Posted on 21/7 17:19
re: South Manchester Boro

I don't know Cheadle, it could go one of two ways:

If we use our usernames it will be like the Boro Supporters NW Star Trek convention

If we use our real names, we could be disappointed at how underwhelming they may be

its a dilemma.....

re: South Manchester Boro

BinC,

Monday nights are probably the best night for me. Count me in definitely.

Sausages, I don't know if I can be on the same pitch as you. I used to play for Bedians rivals, West Didsbury. Both are in the Lancashire and Cheshire League although Didsbury are in the "ol;d" 2nd division now (after I left, I may add.

re: South Manchester Boro

I will be the ref. I am boro_in_cheadles son and I'll be ready to play if he suddenly has a heart attack (very likely).

re: South Manchester Boro

FAO Stockportboro - just out of interest whereabouts in Hazel Grove are you. I was born and brought up there with a Boro supporting Dad. Left years ago to come down here but family still there. Solitary Boro fan at school amongst the Blues and Reds!

re: South Manchester Boro

i live in prestwich (well during the week anyway) but would be up for playing 5 a side - i already play at the pitz on a tuesday and jjb at trafford park on a thursday but i'm sure i could squeeze another game in - mondays the best night for me.I can make it to anywhere in manc but the pitz is easiest from work

there seems to be loads of boro fans in manc. i was in the changing room on thursday , put my boro top on and immediately discovered there was another 4 boro fans in the room, which only had about 12 people in it in total - 5 out of 12 were boro fans lol!

BoroinCheadle Posted on 23/7 15:08
re: South Manchester Boro

OK Smifter - it's 9pm on Monday 31st July at Powerleague in Stockport. It'll cost about 4-6 each dependent on final numbers.

There's a link above for directions.

john_lillie - this is just a first go at organising something. If we enjoy it then it could become a regular thing from the beginning of September when I get back from holiday. Just keep an eye out on the board if you wanna join us.

re: South Manchester Boro

If it's still game on in September I'll have a bit, by then I should be running about again or walking briskly will do

re: South Manchester Boro

Sausages - I had you down for a "yes" I'm interested in principle but you hadn't confirmed that you could actually make next Monday (31st July) for our first game before I went ahead and booked the pitch.

So you can make it then?

sausages Posted on 24/7 10:40
re: South Manchester Boro

I hereby confirm that I am available to play on the 31st July at 9pm although make sure the ambulance is on standby

Spreadz Posted on 24/7 10:52
re: South Manchester Boro

I'll give the 31st July a whirl if you accept south cheshireites!
looked it up on a route planner and its only about 40 mins from me here in sandbach so isnt too far.

Cheers

re: South Manchester Boro

Good man! I'll have a stretcher waiting - though I dare say that I'll need it before you even though you'll have just had a game!

BoroinCheadle Posted on 24/7 11:07
re: South Manchester Boro

Spreadz - you're more than welcome. It's right near the Pyramid building in Stockport on the M60 so at that time you should be able to do it in 40 minutes no problem.

We now have 9 definites so I'll make the booking today.

BinC,

From one of the posts above it looks like Smifter's brother smoggystu is a confirmed yes, making it the round 10.

As for the stretcher, I'm more bothered about extra oxygen. Especially as Powerleague is downwind of the sewage works. Oh, you've forgot to mention that to everybody haven't you :-)

BoroinCheadle Posted on 24/7 11:48
re: South Manchester Boro

Well spotted Riverside - you're right! I confused smoggystu with smoggieinmanc, who was a maybe but then pulled out! Too much smog.

Guys we have a 5 side game!

You'd better not forget to bring your cows then farmer John. Mind you, as Riverside pointed out, the pitch will probably smell like a farm yard anyway.

I'm pencilled in for working in Birmingham next week, so I don't think I'll be able to make this one unless something changes, I guess I can always turn up on the night to provide a little bit of cardiac respite. Glad to see you got 10 anyway though.

Bristolboro, I live near the Fiveways on Lyme Road, been here since 1996 now, from Northallerton originally.
