re: London based FMTTM'ers, weekly 5-a-side?

Maybe if we can only find 2 or 3 more we could challenge an Arsenal, Spurs or Chelsea 5 a side team and give them a good pasting.

C_B_B :- You can keep me company then.

Honestly, I dont think any of us are Fabio Rockenback.

re: London based FMTTM'ers, weekly 5-a-side?

Thank god for that Lizard, no way I would have a haircut like that.

You're North London aren't you Lizard? DO you work in the city?

grantus Posted on 26/7 10:43
re: London based FMTTM'ers, weekly 5-a-side?

We could just play in the park or get a pitch. I know of pitches around Latimer Road., that might be ok for people to get to.

Pauluka Posted on 26/7 10:44
re: London based FMTTM'ers, weekly 5-a-side?

I'm more a Pele type player rather than Rockenback

Cockney_Barra_Boy Posted on 26/7 10:45

Weekly golf match would be more up my street.....less strenuous

Though if anyone does want a game with a high (very high) handicapper then give me a shout.

We'll do Farnham or Wexham..

Lisbonlegend Posted on 26/7 10:46

Got no money and no clubs Barra boy otherwise I would.

The last time I played was at Highbury. I have been officially retired since then and will not be attempting a comeback. Might be on for after-match refreshments, mind.

re: London based FMTTM'ers, weekly 5-a-side?

Count me in (provided that being mid-30s and chronically unfit doesn't disqualify me)

The_Lizards_Jumpers Posted on 26/7 10:46
re: London based FMTTM'ers, weekly 5-a-side?

I live in very North London LL, well Hertfordshire in fact.

However in 3 weeks I'll be starting a new job, working mainly in the City and around Holborn / The Strand.

grantus Posted on 26/7 10:46
re: London based FMTTM'ers, weekly 5-a-side?

5 is not a bad start. If we can get 13-15 people seriously interested, then we've got a regular game.

Make that 6.

I think regents Park is the way forward for the Summer then.

Yeas, no?

Deffo up for it, but avoid power leagues, awful reffing and many brawls encounterd. Me and guis have played a bit at Mile end and its a good set up

The_Lizards_Jumpers Posted on 26/7 10:49
re: London based FMTTM'ers, weekly 5-a-side?

Regents Park is fine for a few kick abouts, after that we can decide where we want to play come the winter months.

Pauluka Posted on 26/7 10:49

Deffo Regents Park as an option. Go there quite regular in the nice weather

I wasnt so much suggesting entering a league, as having somewhere non muddy to play in the winter.

I think it'll be a while before I'm up to league standard.

Yep, but had heart surgery 4 years ago...

Shuold increase my fitness but 5-a-side is well out of my reach as this moment. A gentle jog is about all I could manage without hurling or passing out.

I'm up for refreshments afterwards....and possibly physio emergency sub.

Yes....as you're homeless, destitute and without a pot to pi$$ in so to speak - you can have the keys to the cafe....Ian won't mind and I'll be over for a fry up in the morning.

All this and all you have to do is polish my earrings.....

The more the merrier maxter. We're not confined by pitch size so if we can get as many as possible then we've started something we can take forward every week.

Thursday, August 3rd, Regents Park, 18:45pm. If successful we will be repeating every Thursday evening.

Went to Regents park yesterday and there's a cafe in the middle of the sports area called clarence cafe I think. It's down on the map as multi sport & community hub, we'll meet there as it's central for everyone and right next to the pitches.

Jumpers for goalposts at present. I'll try and sort out some cones and hopefully we'll get a pitch that's marked out.

In order to help pick the teams it would be good if you could say what sort of standard you are.

Grade 1 - Played the game at a reasonable level
Grade 2 - Average or as above but older now / unfit
Grade 3 - Just come for the kickabout / really old / really unfit

Come on lads, be honest.

To qualify my 3, I lost a leg at the age of 12 and now also have a massive kite too. Kicked a ball for the first time in as long as I can remember on Tuesday night and was hurting all over before we'd even finished.

Now that I've explained my level, mufflar, you can bring yourself back to a three too, come on, be honest.

Lisbonlegend Posted on 27/7 13:59
re: London based FMTTM'ers, weekly 5-a-side?

Grantus, at the end of the day this will increase the enjoyment. Noone wants to be on a team that gets spanked so if we can even the teams out and make a game of it then everyone will be happy. If we get there and we're semi organised then we can get on and enjoy the match and have a bit of banter. Noone wants to be stood about not knowing one another for 20 minutes while we pick teams. Just my view anyway, if noone's arsed then I'll just see you all there on Thursday.

I know it's early days but if you start to get a team together there's a Monday night 7-a-side league over in East Dulwich that I've been playing in for about 4 years. All weather pitches, reasonable standard, good banter. (Works out at about 40 a man for the season, 11 games). I know there on the look out for new teams at the moment?

Can't make this week but might do in future weeks, but probably not until september when I back from holidays. Depends a bit on whether our current wednesday night 5 aside continues, two nights on the bounce is a bit much.

When I was a student me and a few friends used to play in a liverpool 5-a-side league against local teams. The venue was literally called 'The Pits'. As you can imagine, our team of skinny students became used to the 'mentalist' element of 5-a-side.
