HD Tv

Thinking about getting the box from Sky, but £299 seems a lot of money to pay just for a better TV picture. Also on the flyer I have theres no mention of installation costs.

I had HDTV installed mid-world cup.

Cost £299 but I got free installation. Suggest waiting until it comes on offer again, but as demand is outstripping supply at the mo you might have a long wait.

As for "was it worth it", it is fookin awesome. I still haven't tired of the superb picture. One surprise was Wimbledon, eye popping quality...my only complaint, there isn't enough output yet. BBC usually just has a teaser channel rotating the same clips, and most of the output seems to be on the Sky Movie Channels, which I unsubscribed to a while back because I realised that after four years subscribing I had NEVER watched a film. Maybe it's the 1000 DVD's I have that did for it.
Things will pick up when the footie starts again, as there's gonna be TWO sky sports channels in HD.

John, I took the plunge £299 didn't seem to bad when i realised I got all the benefits of sky+ too. Downside is I have to pay £60 for instalation.

Also 28th of Aug was the quickest date.

LOL about the sky movie channels, I've subscribed to them since day 1, but the only time I view them is when I'm channel hopping and end up watching the end of a film I've already seen.

I ordered my HD-TV Sky at the endd of May hoping it would be installed by my visit home but the earliest date the could give was August 28th even then. But when I complained they said I could have free installation and 2 months subscription free due to my excessive wait. Looking forward to having it now as DVD's etc look cracking on the HD screen! Did you go for the Sky+ box in another room aswell?

As I live alone, putting Sky in another room would be a little indulgent!

get one of them dvd players that uprates an original DVD into HD, you can buy them for around £99.

If you mean "progessive scan" it doesn't really upgrade the output to HD (and it doesn't use a HDMI interface), they do look pretty good but you have to use component video leads and a decent set will cost you £50 and a separarte set of audio cables.

re: HD Tv

I could have had free installation if I had my old sky box moved to another room. But I had already promised it to someone else.

Also I only own 1 tv

My bedroom is for sleeping in.

By the way, I thought the Sky gadgie would take the old skybox away, but he said "No, it's yours" so I put it on Ebay and got £26.50, plus I made £3 on the postage. hehe
