Did you press ahead with the ISR thing? Could be an interesting time for them, what with the Campaign For A New Workers Party, the SSP situation and the major rewriting of history that is due round about now since Comrade Grant popped his clogs last week.

I did make enquiries, but I haven't really followed it through so far. I'm a bit busy in the next month, so I'm going to take my time and decide if I want join up and throw myself into it all when I have more time. A few things put me off. I had an initial meeting with a young lass and a young lad, Newcastle's youth organisers, where they sounded me out and I sounded them out. It was all amicable and we got on very well, but it wasn't long before I realised how besotted they were with "the Party". It was the same when I stayed with a friend in Belfast and met a few ISRers over there. I'm not sure if I'm cut out for all that stuff. The only campaigning they do seems to be that which is sanctioned by the Party. And they don't seem keen on Lefties who deviate from their view. I mentioned Grant and was met with a tense silence! And I tried to persuade this lass to come to a picket of the Immigration reporting centre in North Shields where the asylum snatch squads operate, but she wouldn't come because apparently her boyfriend works there... I'm not sure I want to tie myself down to being a Party worker at the moment ... in terms of party politics, the situation with John McDonnell in the Labour Party might be worth keeping an eye on instead, or this new party 'Spectre' which is being started by Reg Keys and the relatives of the war dead in Iraq. Unless the Socialist Party shows a bit of support for these guys, I might not be tempted to join them. --- Post edited by Revol_Tees on 5/8 12:39 ---

Good lad. You have to be cautious with the sectarians. There are some good comrades in these groups but they don't realise that the narrow party concerns mean they are in political manacles. I will always be willing to work with them but not for them.
