Vashti Bunyan

Tell me what you know, you fine, educated people.

I stumbled across a documentary called Folk Britannia the other night and caught a bit about Vashti Bunyan, recognised 'Diamond Day' as a lovely track I'd previously heard on some advert and wondered if she has any fans out there. BoroMutt? AtomicLoonybin? Fischer?

I love Nick Drake.

Thanks for the offer of sending tracks but I'm a complete luddite (I'm only just about to buy myself an MP3 player, that's how in touch with modern technology I am ) - I'll certainly check old Vashti out though.

Wasn't she a bit of a folk artist back in the 60's ..?

She was indeed, Ned. Do you remember her?

re: Vashti Bunyan

I started to listen to her after hearing a really good collaboration she did with "Animal Collective".

You might like to check out her second album "Lookaftering" only released last year (35 years after Diamond days).

re: Vashti Bunyan

Personally, I can't say I do remember her, I was an extremely skinny 8 year old when England won the World Cup. Yet, I can say two of my older friends seem to know her. Mind you, those two old gets seem to know everything about music from 1950 onwards. I fell asleep in the pub once, when the pair of 'em got started ...

re: Vashti Bunyan

Vashti made one album in the late sixties and then run off to a remote Scottish commune, maybe to be with Donovan. She disappeared from public eye until making her second album last year...Ithink.

Not really grabbed me (but then I'm no fan of Nick Drake neither), I remember reading of her "new" album in Mojo but beyond that I know nowt.

This is her entry on Wiki ¬

re: Vashti Bunyan

Vashti Bunyan has recently been rediscovered , Stuart Maconie and Danny Baker and Verity Sharp have been playing here a lot, She has a very gentle beathy sort of sound not to every one's taste (its a bit listen with mother-y)but it does nice things to my atoms. A new and entirely fine album is 'Lookaftering' with some fabulous tracks 'lately' is the outstanding track and if you can down load stuff start with that- I'll give you the money back if you hate it.

Diamond Day is an earlier record but in a similar vein and the advert execs are using here stuff quite a bit at the moment

i like it I do

re: Vashti Bunyan

Cheers all, knew I could rely on the old farts of FMTTM to come up trumps . Still no sign of ALB though...

Mr Fischer did email me yesterday afternoon and has promised to 'sort me out'. I'm all a-quiver at the prospect.
