one hit wonders

Just flicked through the music channels on sky and they were playing The Reynolds Girls (I'd rather jack) great tune? how many more one hit wonders can you remember.

There was a rumour that one of The Reynolds Girls was dead, don't think its true though.

WilmslowRed Posted on 8/8 17:10
re: one hit wonders

It was one of Mel and Kim that died. The other one married Ken from Bros, I think.

the_broken_fridge Posted on 8/8 17:10
re: one hit wonders

I think, but don't quote me on this, that after the two disappeared from the music scene it was reported in later years through several websites that one of the Reynolds girls may have died during childbirth, but that story would turn out to be false. Both girls are still alive, both happily married with Aisling the mother of two young boys, and Linda the mother of one boy and twin girls.

Although the sisters may be out of the spotlight, they have achieved somewhat of a cult following due to "I'd Rather Jack" despite the song's cheesiness. The song and the video can be found on the "Stock Aitken Waterman Gold" CD and DVD compliation, which was released in November 2005 in the UK. It can also be heard as a recurrent on PWL Radio.

Edwyn Collins is NOT a one hit wonder. He has plenty of chart hits with Orange Juice, and indeed some sucess with solo work, granted not as much as "A Girl Like You".

He's been very, very ill recently - He's had 2 near-fatal brain haemorrhages, then contracted MRSA.

Hardly any of these are one-hit wonders. Hells bells, The Cheeky Girls managed to get four singles into the Top Bloody 10.

The Bangles had nine Top 40 hits, Cornershop had three, the KLF had five (all of them Top 5 hits), Chesney Hawkes had two, as did Edwyn Collins, plus a Top 10 hit with 'Rip It Up' as frontman of Orange Juice.

So pull your f***ing socks up, the lot of you.

Keep hearing this one this year - its been on an advert for summat or other and then again last night on Sorted:

An obscure early Motown hit called Everybody's goin to the Love-in by Bob Brady and the Con-Chords.

Would guess they never had another hit!

And with that criteria of it needing to be a no 1 to be a genuine one-hit wonder in mind:

that bagpipe version of Amazing Grace
that Whistling jack smith - I was Kaiser Bill's Batman

Honeybus: Can't Let Maggie Go (great song)
Teddy Bears: To Know Him is to Love Him (Phil Spector sang on it, I think)

PS: Weird Al Yankovitch was in the Lovin' Spoonful, who had lots of hits.
