It's a little ironic when you consider that my boss's company make a pretty penny from his asian customers. The receptionist talks to them as if they are simpletons and another refuses to shake hands with them. One of the young apprentices started spouting racist stuff so I asked him if he'd like his father to hear him saying such things. He told me his dad says them too! What hope is there? | |

It's only racist if used by someone who is non-black. Blacks can use it with impunity. But you're perfectly ok if you call someone a mother f**ker or some other term of endearment. Weird world this really. The thing with Africa is if you donate a pound, you don't know if its going to help the needy, or its going to buy guns to shoot the needy. Get real. He owns the company, it is up to him who he wants working for him. If he decided to finnish me I'd be signing on the dole the next day. How could I stop him? True story: I know someone who was working at Swan Hunters afew years back and the Dutch owner visited the site. As he walked into one of the workshops he saw that some riggers, who were contractors, were playing football. He was furious and sacked everyone on the site immediately. Said there was no work there for them. | |

Are you in a Union? I think the unfortunate thing for you if he owns the company is that theres not a lot you can do. Although he cant sack you as easily as you think (by law) he owns the company so you cant get anyone to sack him. If I was you I would look for another job, then when I found one, tell a few of your current jobs clients (particularly any black ones) what your boss is really about. | |

Crazy, there wasn't any music playing! Also I haven't been threatened with the sack and quite like my job. The casual racism does annoy though. One of the problems could be that no-one in the company, from the boss down to the cleaner, has any higher education or qualifications whatsoever. Don't get me wrong I'm not giving that as an excuse but merely as a contributory factor. By the way, the conversation at work is highly stimulating as you can no doubt imagine. | |

The fact he owns the company is irrelavant, yes he can sack you but if its unfairly therell be a cost to him, he might be happy to pay that price tho. as I said it depends how much you want to keep your job | |

My boss was telling me a few months ago that he heard his boss use the "N" word. As the fella in question was part-French, I pointed out to him that maybe someone should tell him that we have a derogatory term for the French. Then again, a while back, one of the lads in the gym put a CD on the stereo. It was all gangster-rap stuff, and one in particular lyric stood out: "I'm a badass n***er motherfucker". It's wrong for black people to use the word and then be offended when racist white people use it. Surely it shouldn't be used full-stop. | |
