A mate of mine, who is also a Charlton fan, said when he saw me last night "Euell, sorry mate. He's not very good." Great! Can't see him being a regular starter. | |

We all know he's had a poor couple of seasons, but a few Charlton fans have been on here and said he was once a very good playerfor them (I remember him once being a decent player) and that if we can get him back to anywhere near what he once was then we've got a good deal. That sounds about right to me. Well worth a gamble. He's an attacking central midfielder. However I suspect he'd do a better job than Mendieta on the right. | |

Jo Job was once very good for us too. Not that I want to urinate on the chips but I can't see him doing much for us. Woodgate and Huth, on the other hand, are excellent signings. | |

But for £300k we aren't expecting much so any positive contribution is a bonus. Have no problem with the Boro taking a gamble on a once decent player in the hope that we may get him back to the player he once was. Works for other teams, why not us. | |

Noel the goals Whelan did ok for us. I suspect we've lacked height presence up front and he'll give us this. Should keep him up front for corners, if a ball is cleared he's probably got more chance of winning it and keeping the ball upfield and not straight back into our crowded box. (I really hate us defending a corner with 400 men) | |
