| DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
Saw today - a demolition company has delivered big skips outside the Infirmary... 'Middlesbrough Moving Forward' brought to you by Aldi.

Shouldn't you tell that useless faggot Mallon so that he cannot pretend that he didn't know? Middlesbrough centre - sponsored by a Void
| neiltrodden Posted on 7/9 19:14 | |
| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
What should be built in it's place instead?
| swordtrombonefish Posted on 7/9 19:15 | |
| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
A life sized model of the Infirmary.
| neiltrodden Posted on 7/9 19:16 | |
| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
What can we do with that then?
| MontagueLongfellow Posted on 7/9 19:18 | |
| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
Knock it down, its a job creation scheme
| neiltrodden Posted on 7/9 19:21 | |
| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
When it's built, blow it up with a rocket and then tell the world it was terrorists flying hijacked airliners into it. I'm all for conservation, but not just for conservations sake. Otherwise the town would look like the father-in-laws shed - full of stuff that should have been binned years ago. Including when the oldfuck is in it too.
| Towell Posted on 7/9 19:26 | |
| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
Why don't we knock everything down and start again with one style of architecture and thus in 100 years we'll have a unique city centre as it will be solely antique buildings.
| neiltrodden Posted on 7/9 19:27 | |
| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
Because it will look like Billingham/Thornaby. Pick one!

| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
like plymouth towncenter after the war, problem is it would be built to todays trends and hated in 50 years
| Towell Posted on 7/9 19:29 | |
| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
Nah it would be hated for 50 years and then appreciated for it's style in 100.
| neiltrodden Posted on 7/9 19:31 | |
| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
We'd live with something we hate and just as we started to like it, we'd knock it down, the proven law-breaker of a robo-mayor would plead ignorance and we'd end up with the new cycle of rubbish we don't like.
| Towell Posted on 7/9 19:32 | |
| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
hmm probably but i'd be dead so i wouldn't much care.

| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
We had some marvellous buildings in the Boro, all of which could have been adapted to give the town character (as per York, Leeds, Newcastle) Instead it has been collapsed into Chav central, the only buildings of worth are in the Town Hall, the Church and up near Albert Park.

| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
The Round past Albert Bridge is alright.

| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
should have moved the police station there, and got rid of that hideous building plus the old law courts.

That put the mockers on that thread.

| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
Its hypocritical of Mallon and others to bleat on about these great buildings being demolished when they had the opportunity and no doubt the money to buy them themselves and rent them out for whatever use they wanted. They could have purchased the Infirmary and created council offices or flats etc. They chose not to. I think its a disgrace.

| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
Never struck me as a particularly outstanding building, I have to say. Is there any pressing reason for it not to be demolished or is it just because it's old?

It is historically important being the first hospital built in M'bro by Bolckow and Vaughan for their workers. Yes, it looks shabby but would easily be put right. Look at what the Geordies have done to Grainger town, superb. It is also at one of the key approaches to M'bro and will look a zillion times better than an ALDI...with the will it can be renovated, with imagination it could be put another use. --- Post edited by craig_pancrack on 8/9 12:01 ---

craig - what can we do about it now though? I'd back any campaign set up to save the older notable buildings in boro ( and billingham, come to that) but can't really do much from afar.

It will be interesting to see what the high and mighty Middlesbrough Council Authority decide to do with Middlesbrough's one and only Grade 1 listed building when they carry out their ridiculous promise to move all the colleges to Middlehaven. Over to you Mr Mallon.

I'm thinking Wacky Warehouse.

'only Grade 1 listed building when they carry out their ridiculous promise to move all the colleges to Middlehaven.' Didn't someone post that Middlesbrough college had decided not to move to Middlehaven.

| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
Nah, that would be too much like common sense surely? It must be better to have students travelling miles to one venue rather than having a few satellite colleges on their doorstep? Wouldnt it?

| re: DEMOLITION SKIPS AT INFIRMARY | |
They should reopen it as a specialist hospital for eyes, ears, nose and throat.

What do you want? Old, decrepit, and uninhabited buildings to remain throughout the town?
