| 5 in midfield, can it work all the time? | |
We seem to do well with it against the big guns then revert back to 4-4-2 for the so called "lesser" teams and it goes pear shaped. I don't see why playing it all the time would be a problem, not every team will have as much of the ball as Aresenal did today and with men breaking from midfield it doesn't have to be a negative formation.

Probably Pompey but can't be sure, might have been because of having Doriva, Boateng and Mendieta or an out of form Rochemback in the centre of midfield?

I dont think we need to be so rigid. I think we could start most games with 5 and move to 4 at some point in the game. On the other hand, if Woodgate had been at the back against Pompey, would the game have been the same. I dont think so, and maybe if the defence is solid 4-4-2 would be better. Looking at the Portsmouth game again on telly it looks as though Riggott took a knock - would he have come off maybe if we hadnt been negotiating with Huth and Woodgate?
