any fronliners on here?

I was talking to an old mate yesterday he is a staunch man utd fan and a bit of a nutter and he reckons their mob are the number 1 in the country and boro are no 2.
He said boro just don't have our numbers but they're game as phuq.

we had a lad at work who was asked to do some investigative reporting and basically follow the Blades Business crew about and try to get to the bottom of what they got upto. Basically after a week he came back and said we just got pished all day and played pool and watched football on SKY

capio Posted on 17/10 16:24
re: any fronliners on here?

Well I have never said anything to upset them papa so I am not worried, if they wanna smash each other up go ahead I don't care, I think it is very rare that us scarfers get any serious hassle these days so let them crack on. I even have a few mates and family who had battled for boro in the past.

I was just interested in how they rated themselves is no 2 about right?

police have their time taken up by people like you 'sticking the nut' on others.

re: any fronliners on here?

It was silly and not something I would lower myself to now, but he did spit at me for no reason and it was after that game when we played them in the cup when we cheated by the ref.

LIDDLE_TOWERS Posted on 17/10 16:53
re: any fronliners on here?

used to be then i hit forty and grew up

travelled with all the stockton lads, redcar lads and the p.e.c.

had some good times but sadly they come to an end

hey capio your man utd mate is spot on

the men in black have been awsome over the last 6 years

but we matched em many times on deansgate

we also had an incident on the tram at manchster were 5 boro
lads got attacked by 30 man utd

these lads were 5 well known billy and stockton lads
and though they got battered they stood and fought and backed the 30 off

i now spend most of my time down the gym punching bags
and lifting weights

it was a good laff in the 80,s and 90,s but now its dead

thats why i laff when you see all these young wanabee thugs coming up

if they got sent to jail some off them would cack their pance
in the courtroom

stump_hole_lover Posted on 17/10 16:53
re: any fronliners on here?

Don't put yourself down capio or let the liberals on here do it for you. If someone spat on me I would nut him too, that does'nt make you a hoolie or neanderthal. With regards to your original question, all i can say is than manure fansalready think they are gods gift and should automatically be handed every trophy going so why should they think any differently when it comes to football violence. They would never consider themselves secondary to a small club/town such as ours even though the evidence might be to the contrary.

EmersonsPerm Posted on 17/10 17:00

I know a couple of lads who are into it, like. They're actually really good blokes and I was shocked when I found out they were into it all.

capio Posted on 17/10 17:01
re: any fronliners on here?

stump he said boro are game as phuq just that they have much bigger numbers, he said boro would smash west ham though which I found surprising.

LIDDLE_TOWERS Posted on 17/10 17:05
re: any fronliners on here?

capio - boro could pull big numbers about 3 years back

but with the increased cctv, jumped up charges from boro c.i.d.

and banning orders it has killed it stone dead

the men in black could pull big numbers because they had lads

from all over the country, i.e. the cockney reds for one

stump_hole_lover Posted on 17/10 17:11

Bigger numbers don't always mean good results ( reference:- nufc crowds/cups ratio )

re: any fronliners on here?

Let's face it, LIDDLE_TOWERS. That kind of patter would be better appreciated on the Frontline website rather than here. You're just scaring the kids. Imagine if chavs got into the hooligan scene in a meaningful way these days, bearing in mind just how despised we were by mainstream society. They would probably brand them 'terrorists' for threatening the cash cow that is modern pro football. Leeeave it, san. They 'aint worf it.

capio Posted on 18/10 12:30
re: any fronliners on here?

I think those who start throwing petty insults at the frontliners should think on, they keep it a secret society that way.
I think thereís a lot of people like me who are not interested in getting involved but are interested in what happens and hearing their anecdotes and reading the books

Wanton violence against innocent people is disturbing and perpetrators should be sent to prison, but this is not the case with football violence they fight with their own, let them crack on I say.

Great thread.

Loved the bit about the hooligans all moving over to Thailand to shack up with ladyboys!

Maybe their fighting over the years is just them trying to come to terms with their inner demons, and face up to the fact that they are queer.

Just a thought.

If you approach this thread in a non-judgemental way, it is really quite interesting and enlightening. I often wonder what makes people who get into hooliganism tick (and it isn't just lady-boys). I can't understand the attraction myself - fighting hurts.

Just because i find it interesting reading doesn't make me a sad excuse for a human being, and I dont need your pity thanks. I don't 'get off' on reading about it, but it's interesting to see it from a different perspective and hearing what actually happens.

It's not something I have ever or will ever get into, but everyone likes seeing or hearing about a good fight! People enjoy boxing and this isn't much different. (Personnally, i hate boxing)

To be fair most of the frontline who I know or know of stand about, talking a good game but rarely get involved with any aggro these days. As someone said before, playing pool, drinking beer and watching skysports seems about as strenous as most of them get these days

Capio,in one sense your right mate in saying they only fight amongst their own,but in another your wrong, innocent people are still being dragged into it.

just last season ,v Coventry,i was with 2 11 year old(my son and his mate) after the game outside the gate where the away coaches parked,1 Boro lad(i wont call him a fan) started bother with Coventry fans, trouble kicked off and people young and old were getting knocked over by these idiots.
i had to get my 2 young uns over the other side of the road crying their eyes out.

there is no excuse for the people who spoil things for everyone else, simply because they want to fight!

"People enjoy boxing and this isn't much different."

Boxing is a sport, a martial art, a contest between two athletes at peak fitness, it obeys a defined set of rules and involves personal risk to the participants but not to bystanders.

cf Hooliganism which has no rules is contested between a bunch of idiots who are beered up and mobbed up which causes distress and often physical injury to innocent bystanders.

Yeah, virtually identical...

capio Posted on 18/10 13:01
re: any fronliners on here?

Boroproud I agree with what youíve said and I am not condoning that at all.

To clarify my situation I will give an analogy for boromutt, there is no comparison, but the voyeurism is the same.
Who has not sat and watched murders being investigated and wondered what happens inside the mind of a killer, it doesnít mean we want to kill people or glorify what they do, we just find it interesting and want to know as much as we can from the shadows whilst staying firmly in the background.

kermit_the_smog Posted on 18/10 13:08
re: any fronliners on here?

BoroMutt, where did i say it was virtually identical?

It's blokes fighting, and its general so well organised that this fighting takes place away from obvious areas due to CCTV etc.

I'm not saying that this is always the case, as i'm sure many people have witnessed fighting in many pedestrian places, but in general terms they fight each other. Organised gangs.

It's like if you saw a fight in the street, would you turn a blind eye and cry yourself to sleep that night saying why oh why mindless thugs why oh why. No, you'd probably watch it. Whenever a fight breaks out everyones there to watch. Am not praising these people and hailing them as Middlesbrough heroes but to me its very interesting reading stories about what has happened in the past.

re: any fronliners on here?

Back in the early 70's I was running about being a little Bootboy/Suadehead. Jonah and his brother were in charge of the Holgate, mostly it was bravado and fashion, with the odd scuffle and scurmish, only occassionally full on.

I got me ass kicked more than did the kicking, once even got done over by two Boro skins in the subway at the railway station, for me silk scarf. Another time a big fat Sunland skin booted me up in the air as i tried to get under one of the concrete barriers in the holgate

Once it got really serious, I was at Newcastle Poly doing a sociology degree, and wrote my dissertation on football violence.

Later when I did an MA, I wanted to go undercover to look at far right recruitment and football. The college said it was too dangerous.

It was a huge adrenalin rush being part of a single minded rowdy gang with a common "enemy"

Just by way of a little explanation, like.

I carried on going to games throughout the 80's and 90's, sad that the old men and kids had been scared away, but still loving the footie and the laughs and the adventure.

I stopped fighting years ago.

re: any fronliners on here?

Kermit, you said, and I quote "People enjoy boxing and this isn't much different." hence my sarcastic assertion that it was pretty near identical.

As to watching a fight in the street, no I wouldn't. From personal experience I would simply let them get on with it. But then I'm a lily livered cowardly "scarfer".

Whilst it may be the case that the fighting nowadays is by appointment and in that case I would tend to agree with you let the sad phooks get on with it in a nice empty field, it was not always thus and plenty of innocent people got caught up in it, injured in it and stopped going to watch football because of it.

I suppose I can understand a degree of social anthropological fascination in the events for those who never had their Saturday spoilt by these nobheads and perhaps my opinion is coloured by this experience, but I still feel that any amount of glorification such as "boro just don't have our numbers but they're game as phuq" is just plain sad.

re: any fronliners on here?

Thinking about the adrenalin rush hoolies all talk about, I can understand that - but the more 'normal' way I deal with getting that rush is by pulling a shirt on and turning out on the rugby field. Yeah, there are bits of niggle but the general phsical nature of the game gives you that rush and helps to release tension without risk of involving innocent people or being locked up. There's also no where to hide in the game and if you get involved you have to handle the situation yourself and not run away throwing insults or hiding behind your big mate. Just my thoughts on the matter

YodaTheCoder Posted on 18/10 13:53
re: any fronliners on here?

"Can you "launch" something downwards?"

Yes, I think you can. To launch something is just to push it away with force, doesn't necessarily need to be skyward. You can launch a ship for example.

re: any fronliners on here?

The Titanic was launched and that went down well enough.

Chutney Posted on 18/10 13:56

But you don't really apply force to the "launch" of a ship, do you - you merely stop preventing gravity from doing its bit.

Hope the tough boys don't mind us sidetracking them here - although they'll probably want to contribute to this little conundrum themselves, thinking about it.

Even as a skin, I never went out picking on people because of their race.

And Capy the silk scarf incident came before the sociology, otherwise I would agree.

buddah, I think we know that the scrote in question happened to be asian, so what, he was still a scrote as he had a stash of cd's down his hoody and a trip head first down the escalator might have taught him a lesson. It was certainly satisfying seeing him get caught in a headlock but I doubt that deterred him

You didn't answer that question, and avoid any that really is the point. Instead you pretended you were black, and other diversionary daft tactics.

Actually your bullying of a 16 year old girl was our second encounter our first is when you accused superboksuper of being racist when he had the Gaul to suggest the Asian taxi driver stole his phone and made the £1500 worth of calls to Pakistan.

You donít have a pop at me now and again, you come on every night and huth my threads from the third and fourth page.
But hey why let the truth get in the way of your lovely story? Like I said I CHALLENGED YOU, not vice versa.

You are a tedious boy.

I questioned Superbok about him wanting to beat the guy up, and saying

"In response to what the taxi driver looked like, he was of Asian descent and he is a right (unt.
I couldnt beat hi min fear of being labelled a racist or such like.
And he was bigger than me too."

My reply was "Can't win then, eh? Is your fear of being labelled a racist anything to do with your racism?

You stepped in like the big 'un, doing his arguing for him. You had already offered to help him

"this has sickened me, lets see if we can either claw back the money or enact revenge."

I'm not sure how you got on with that help, after you heard that the taxi people were not a firm to mess with.

As for the lass, admin removed her original post, I wasn't the only one to take her to task, and what I actually said was,

"Yer what Hot Boro Girl? Have a word admin. Kick racism out of Football."

Hardly what I call bullying. But hey, you are a sensitive bairn.

You still don't care to share your anti-racism.

Don't whine about me having a go, I want to make you uncomfortable, finish what you started.

When the violence got serious, the factions from Stockton, Boro and even Redca came togther in an alliance to take on the best, as they saw it.

Read the post again more carefully in the morning when you're sober and you will realise your posts are nonsensical drivel

SplendidStuff Posted on 19/10 2:19
re: a ny fronliners on here?

haha what are you talking about.

You claim that you are not interested in identifying anyone yet your post is titled 'any fronliners on here?'.

So were you just curious to know in the sense of a yes or no answer scenario, or did you actually want details?

The issue i have is that being a member of the frontliners or whatever they are called is basically hooliganism, and you want to know people stories on hooligansim.

What you fail to realize is that young and impressionable people may come on this message board, and as you will accept, your post has some rather detailed information regarding this subject. I dare say some of the board members are reminiscing and glorifying the whole act.

re: any fronliners on here?

I canít raise the effort to answer any (moot) point you may have made because youíre basically just moaning like an old woman.
Dictating to people what they can and cannot talk about, we had a conversation about pae.dophilia last week; does that mean weíre glorifying pae.dophiles? Does that mean weíre justifying their behaviour?
Of course it doesnít it simply means youíre spouting inane crap.

I find it hilarious that some clown feels they can take away our liberty and tell us as adults what we can and cannot talk about.

I strongly suggest you go and take your head for a chit.

Here is another chap who wanted to dictate to people what they could and couldnít talk about.

Now I am off to bed.

I was pre-frontline, and was sent to Durham prison twice in the mid to late 1980s, horrible horrible stinking place. At the time, I enjoyed the adrenelin of the violence and misguided status of being one of the 'boys'. However, I grew up, educated myself and made a success of my life. I saw some bad things, did some bad things, and had bad things done to me. I am glad I left it all behind me.

Did anyone watch Coronation Street last night? Diedre and Ken had a big fight, and the fat butcher had an argument in the street with Mike Baldwin..

littlejimmy Posted on 19/10 10:04

Mike Baldwin's dead.
So Fred Elliot (who is going to die at his own wedding), was fighting a corpse. Is this some kind of analogy that I'm not getting?

KENDAL Posted on 19/10 10:50
re: a ny fronliners on here?

I was pre-frontline, In The Holgate from 1973 to 1980. There was some huge tear ups with the mackems in the Clive Road corner of The Holgate during that time.

So then KENDAL, you might be one of the few on here that can answer the original question. How did the frontliner's compare to the other firms?

re: any fronliners on here?

Bandito, I remember one thing in the 1980s, that when we look at football violence, many of the boro lads were black. It showed a wonderful diversity of ethnicity, we took a lot of abuse from thick Mackems and jawdees during violent interludes, happy days.

KENDAL Posted on 19/10 11:20
re: any fronliners on here?

it was back in the days of the Skinheads and then Suedeheads from what I remember there was some right headcases in the Holgate at that time and I don't recall anyone coming to Boro and taking liberties. On a few occasions the jawdees took over The Trooper pub (just for a while)and on one occasion the pub on Parliament Road, they'd get in real early but once the word got out where they were it was sorted and normal service resumed so to speak. Remember in those days there was no police escorts and people travelled independantly but like a lot of guys have already said Linthorpe Road used to regulary be a battle ground on a Saturday.

LIDDLE_TOWERS Posted on 19/10 11:43
re: any fronliners on here?

I think this thread has run its course but for what it is worth

the original question was basically about how good were the frontline and how were they rated

this will be my last post on the matter

I have met a lot of top boys from other firms through england
home and away games, i know a few quite well and class them
as good friends

I have read 99% of the hooli books that are out there and 90%

of the lads itk will have boro in the top 5

for a small town we could pull a big firm that rarely backpeddled
and even when outnumbered usually came out on top

for the record most peoples top 5 are the same as mine too

1.man utd
2.west ham
3.chelsea
4.boro
5.millwall

only brum, leeds, spurs, forest could have any different opinions on these 5

bandito Posted on 19/10 11:46

burydweller: whats wrong with your name like? you could maybe reinvent yourself as barry weller or something just for the hell of it! Anyway, I know a few ex hoolie types and they're past their sell by date so can understand some of the craic on here. Not my cup of tea tho.

re: any fronliners on here?

Liddle_towers, i'd agree with your list if you are talking "all time" but for me west ham and chelsea hav'nt been active for about 15 years. My list would be, in no particular order, Boro,Cardiff,Millwall, Tottenham, Man U

re: any fronliners on here?

Were the geordies and mackems no good at this?! no ones really mentioned them once for being a force.

I remember Port Vale away in our last season in first division when Merson? or Higgy scored after 5mins and we won 1-0, i was 15 at the time. At end of game there was a bit or argy bargy, chairs ripped out and thrown etc. Remember seeing some port vale fans waving a boro shirt in the air and in the concourse these group of skin'ed lads all in denim, looked in their 30s all shouting and psyching themselves up and shouting after one of their mates before charging off outside.

GillZean Posted on 19/10 12:17

Kermit,

yeah that was the Frontline. All ran outside and chased Port Vale up the hill outside the ground.

borobuddah Posted on 19/10 12:27
re: any fronliners on here?

We had a reputation before Frontline days. I have spoken to lads from Liverpool, West Ham, Everton, Arsenal and Spurs who have horror stories of coming under attack.

They all hated the long walk down Linnie from the station, then the final trap of the old cemetry

PV86 Posted on 19/10 12:31
re: any fronliners on here?

People who come on here and slag off the hoolies should take a broader view of it. If it wasnt for the hoolies back in the 70 and 80's ordinary guys like me would have got a pasting off the opposition many times over. All we had to do was keep a maximum of 50 yards away from the nutters and they would do all the fighting. Brilliant it was. The Boro nutters protected me many, many, many times and I have nothing but respect for most of them.

Recently they just fight each other, so whats wrong with that? Let them get on with it. Slagging these guys off, displays a narrow minded view of a complex subject.

uptheboro79 Posted on 19/10 12:31
re: any fronliners on here?

I seem to remember an incident with Leeds fans in that old cemetry which lead to Ayresome Park being known as suicide park amoungst the Leeds supporters.

Who from? If theer was no hoolies who would have hit you? This protection nonsense is the most crass self-justification. They are protecting us from a problem they and idiots like them have created.

*note: I ran around as a 13 year old with me ox blood bovver boots on, gesticulating and screaming at the away fans but bricking it if there was any movement. Later I travelled away a lot, early 80s, so I saw plenty of it. It was hard to avoid. I ahd to run a few times to avoid getting a good kicking. I always thought it was stupid and very inconvenient.

KENDAL Posted on 19/10 13:11

Jaffa, the connection is ; they're both childish.
Is that simple enough for you to understand or are you too busy buying up players on FM2007.

All i want to do is to take my kids to a game without fear of having some clown threatening me! Sunderland away a couple of years ago i had two of these clowns wanting to fight me! I know the fella next door plays video games and he does not stand in the garden wanting bother! all these fellas are very sad people and yes i know lots of them and have told them

capio Posted on 19/10 13:29
re: any fronliners on here?

Comparing a computer game that happens inside somebody own home and has no negative impact on anybody but the player itself with football violence is perhaps the most stupid analogy I have ever witnessed on this site.

As for Sunderland I have been attacked a few times there too, notably the game we won 2-1 when Emerson scored they were not firms they were just people who had too much to drink.

SmogontheThames Posted on 19/10 13:42
re: any fronliners on here?

I remember the one and only time I got involved. It was away to Leeds in the early 80's. A group of us tried it on with some Leeds lads in some backstreest after the game. We were hopelesy outnumbered and getting a right pasting so we ended up splitting up and legging it! I was been chased by 5 or 6 nutters, and ended up running out onto a main road, been hit by car, going over the bonnet and and fracturing my ankle (i was lucky) ..the driver fooked off and the leeds nutters gave me a right kicking whilst i was still in the road....eventually ended up in hosptial for the night. Anyway, I thought sod that!!

jaffa127 Posted on 19/10 13:48
re: any fronliners on here?

i remember the emerson goal well if there was no net the ball would have hit me in the face ! then robbie scored i think they scored late on and the "! i feel good" music come on it was a classic moment

re: any fronliners on here?

What no one has mentioned yet is that hooliganism almost killed football in the eighties. The Thatcher government were quite prepared to close down football because it had become an excuse for these a) nutters or b) benevelent protectors of the little man, to act out their violent fantasies on the streets of England. I and many others simply stopped going to football matches at that time because it had become a squalid, low life pastime. Having these 'folk hero's' pi$$ing down the back of your leg and seeing people led out of grounds with darts stuck in their skull was never my idea of fun. Sorry if it makes me less of a man. It was only in Robson's first season, when my son took and interest in football that I ventured back. And watching that moron at Sheff Utd vandalising the toilets and generally spreading fear and loathing around at the end of match reminded me of the dark days.

re: any fronliners on here?

Glippy, your back with more inane illinformed judgements on a subject you know nothing about. Football was dying in the early-mid 80's and football violence may have been a contributary factor in this but in no way was it the sole factor. Lack of investment, the economic depression of that era, crumbling football grounds and the fact that football had become along ball game with littel skill and excitement all had an impact. Football was getting vitrually nil investment from tv and had recently almost bankrupt itself with spiralling transfer fees and wages (sound familiar?). Also, people such as you turned their backs on football as it plainly just become un-trendy. Many blamed football violence and the media dogs were chewing on footballs carcass. Thatcher did want rid of football, true just as she did the coalmines, ship building and heavy industry. This was because she was trying to create a middle class society and the above mentioned things were the epitomy of working class culture/life. Fortunately, she only succeeded with three of the four because some people just refused to give in on football despite the perils and pitfalls of following your team around the country. They were times at AP when the "hooligan element" made up over 50% of the attendance so it could be argued that those who never stopped going saved the game and layed the foundations for the new breed of football and fans we have today. For me in terms of passion, atmosphere and excitement, take me back to the 80's anyday!!!
