FAO: Techies

Building a PC for the first time, going to order the parts when I get paid. Here's what I have for £320:

Case Enermax 3030 ATX Case
PSU Aria 500w ATX
Motherboard Abit 754 Athlon support
Memory Generic DDR 333 1024MB
Processor AMD Sempron 64 bit 3000+ 1.8GHZ
DVD Writer Pioneer 40x16x8
Hard Drive Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 250GB
Graphics Card GeForce 256mb DDR3 RAM 6200 GPM

Is this alright or can I get better for the money? I thought that was a good system for the price.

No soundcard?

Built into the motherboard. Plus if I had a good soundcard I'd have to buy good speakers and that'd bump a fair price on it.

that's not bad for the price but for £400 my mate bought a similar spec pc but with a 2.6 GHZ dual processor (5.2GHZ) and got a 17 inch monitor with it.

I'll see if I can get a duo system for under £350 then, thought that'd be a bit on the pricey side. Still keeping the monitor, keyboard and mouse from this computer as they're good enough.

Just had a look, cheapest motherboard that supports the Pentium D is £50, cheapest Pentium D chip about £75. Think i'll stick with this.

How much is the Power supply ?
Is it £17 ish.
Buying a cheap PSU is a false economy, as when they blow, they have a nasty habit of taking components with them. (Ask Get_Your_Rat_Out)
For a system of that nature you want to be spending in the region of £30 - £40 for a decent quality PSU.

In terms of amount of watts or just quality? Taking your advice onboard I looked around and found this:

Link: PSU

That one's a vast improvement over the generic 500watt jobbie.
And should be more than adequate for the PC you are building

Size is'nt everything as they say.

Thanks for the help.

"Size doesn't matter" I've been telling girls that for years.
