re: the beheaded coloured person

when i first heard the story it was just a man that was decapitated - it has since become a black man (although i presume it always was a black man but that wasn't the angle that was being reported if you see what i mean...)

the fact that the police asked a number of bodies if it was racist and got answers from definitely yes to definitely no and all shades in between shows how much of a mess the race relations industry is in

some numpty on the radio even suggested that had the guy not been black it wouldn't have been passed on - now i'm not one for decapitations but i'm fairly sure i remember plenty of people admitting to watching that scouse fella having his head cut off by al-quaeda - and i've seen plenty of white skate-boarders landing on their goolies on you-tube

-------
President of the Black Police Association Keith Jarrett said disciplinary action should have gone further.

"It is, at best, disrespectful to the black people that live in Hertfordshire."
-------

does this mean that itv will stop lisa riley showing black people making fools of themselves on you've been framed?

just another load of people bashing the police (not that they don't deserve it sometimes mind...)

"the black police officers assoc"

Is there a white one?

re: the beheaded coloured person

if it was a white man being decapitated, would it be racist to white people?

re: the beheaded coloured person

surely the video was distributed because it involved someone being decapitated.

the colour of this someone had nothing to do with it, hmm?

someone playing an unnecessary race card.

trodbitch Posted on 28/11 19:22
re: the beheaded coloured person

I've seen it. Now it's not racist, the colour of the blokes skin is incidental. He's been decapitated ffs.

What I will say is that they are going about it being a racist issue, EVERYONE who sent that email using works equipment should have been disciplined and possibly (considering it's the police) fired. No-one should ever have to see something like that if they don't want to and certainly not at work.

trodbitch Posted on 28/11 19:24
re: the beheaded coloured person

It's not a video, it's a set of images taken of a man who jumped off a low-ish building and landed chin first on some spiked railings which decapitated him. It's actually on the web and has been for some years.

GibbosEmpire Posted on 28/11 19:26
re: the beheaded coloured person

Why would you want to see it in the first place? Sick minds anyone who wants to see that sort of thing.

You haven't much choice when something turns up in your mailbox saying "look at this".

GibbosEmpire Posted on 28/11 19:29
re: the beheaded coloured person

I suppose but the people sending it have to be sick then along with the people that want to see it.

trodbitch Posted on 28/11 19:31
re: the beheaded coloured person

Stick "snopes decapitation" into google and click "I'm feeling lucky" and tell me if it is racist though.

Can we say 'coloureds' now?

re: the beheaded coloured person

what i was asking was,can you be racist against your own race.keith jarrett does not say it in the link, but on the radio he said it was racist.the fact it was distributed by people of colour, aswell as white people surely means it is not.

trodbitch Posted on 28/11 20:55
re: the beheaded coloured person

Well, it is stated in that report that it might be *perceived* as racist. Let's be honest, the subtext of the "Don't run from the police" heading was if you do, this is what happens. I don't perceive it as racist but I think if you forward images like that for titillation then you are fooking wasting your time splitting hairs over whether other people thought it was racist or not. Someone could be quite traumatised by looking at that.

Racism exists in all cultures. Some black people say racist things about some asian people, for example.

jayno Posted on 28/11 21:01
re: the beheaded coloured person

yes,but asians and "blacks" are different races, can a black person be racist against another black person?

trodbitch Posted on 28/11 21:05
re: the beheaded coloured person

The Japanese used to think they were a superior race to the Chinese.

I think the idea that you belong to a 'race' is the (very) thin end of the wedge that is racism. I know I am white and share similarities with other white people but I don't consider that we are off the same 'race'. I don't consider a dog to be a different species from another dog just because it has different textured fur.

glippy Posted on 29/11 0:37
re: the beheaded coloured person

Speaking of racism, in the trial of the two lads who killed the white guy for his mobile phone and travel card, one of the defence barristers suggested it would be racist to assume anything negative from the fact that one of the murderers laughed 11 times at questions from detectives when they were arrested. I can catergorically state, hand on heart, that I am not racist, but it disturbs me how many drug dealers are asian and how many muggers, murderers are black.

R_Swipe Posted on 29/11 1:17
re: the beheaded coloured person

The picture itself clearly isn't racist. What might have been racist was the accompyaning comments sent with it.

trodbitch, regarding your first sentence in your last post above, unfortunately, there's quite a large proportion who still think that.

Very much agree with the rest of what you said.

I saw it once and never thought for a second about the guy's skin colour.

Glippy - that old nugget - I'm not racist, but...
Actually, what you say is true to an extent although over-simplified, and you should be disturbed. There are myriad reasons for it, and they are nothing to do with a greater propensity towards criminal activity.

The issue of "race" is a divisive misnomer.

re: the beheaded coloured person

Can people of a minority can be racist against their own ethnic group? Of course they can. At least, they ca co-operate it, facilitate and legitimise it.

Racism is not just about an individual mindset, one person being disparaging about another on the basis of pigmentation because of social conditioning. That is only one dimension.

Racism is also about a power structure and an institutionalised economic relationship. Take slavery in the US: the redneck racism of the ordinary Klansman did not just arise because various individuals came to the isolated conclusion that they were better than the negroes.

It came because the structure of the entire economy PROVED it. The black man was chattel, disposable, on a par with livestock or machinery. Racism was reinforced by that economic reality.

But there were negroes who co-operated with the system for their own advancement, either co-operated econimcally bu acting as foremen, organising slave gangs and selling their labour or co-operated politically as 'community' or religious leaders who came to an accomodation with the big slave owners in return for the promise of a church or some other crumbs.

Those who co-operated were later to be denounced as Uncle Toms, a phrase still regarded as vastly insulting slur. The modern equivilent is to call those black people who are part of the system - lawyers, politicians etc - "coconuts" ie, brown on the outside and white on the outside.

Racism is closely tied in to the way the ruling elite structures the economy. It is usefukl because it divides the working classes against each other and produces an easily identifiable underclass to do the shitty jobs on the cheap. If you co-operate with that then you perpetuate it, no matter what your colour.

re: the beheaded coloured person

This was discussed on Radio 5 last night along with the murder of the solicitor. Interesting point made by several listeners, the decapitated man was referred to in the bulletins as being "black", but the murderers were referred to as being "2 youths"...

Maybe any references to the colour of anyone in any incident should be banned then we could maybe judge things more evenly rather than shouting racist all the time!

FunkyPotatoe Posted on 29/11 9:48
re: the beheaded coloured person

Shuan - there is no 'white' police officers association. In my opinion having a 'black' police officers association increases segregation and creates problems.

It's all bull. It's like the 'asian student attacked headline' -no a student was attacked - it does not matter if he is white, black, asian or a martian!

This is not racism but the innapropriate distribution of email.

As I tell all of my family and friends the solution is simple........ never send anything from your works email! Have a seperate hotmail account which cannot be traced and you don't get into trouble for sending jokes!!!!
