im old enough to remember when sutcliffe was doing this 30 years ago.there was sense of excitement waiting for the next victim and some people where dissapointed when he was caught.its happening again now.everyones talkin about it.its sad but people are fascinated with serial killers. | |

They reckon he s/he could have killed more. If you read up about serial killers most profilers say the kills become more frequent as time goes by, so 3 in 6 weeks is even more worrying. (obviously one would be bad-for anyone who will try to read anything into the point) | |

Quite a disrespectful tone on this thread. I like black humour and am not particularly offended but I do find it interesting how, because they are prostitutes, people think it's acceptable to make jokes. We don't know their backgrounds, problems or what drove them onto the streets. Each one is still someone's daughter and no-one deserves to die in that way. One of the girls was 25 years old and imagine how her family feel now finding out that their little girl had been murdered but also finding out for the first time that she was a smackhead heroin addict and a whore, they had no idea. Not all prostitutes are drug addicts. And drug addiction is a real problem, not a life choice. Stereotyping all prostitutes as drug addicts who do it because they cant wait for their next hit is retarded. Most women do not choose prostitution as their career choice, most believe that is the only option left to them and turn to it out of desperation. (Of course this would be incorrect in other countries, eg thailand where women travel from all over the country to work in bangkoks sex industry as the top earners can get up to 100 times the average monthly wage) And before you ask do i know any prostitutes, i've had plenty. | |

Not all prostitutes are drug addicts. I think you'll find 100% - 87% is 13%. And thats in middlesbrough, which if i need to remind anyone has one of the highest crack cocaine and heroin problems in the UK. And even if these prostitutes are on drugs what does it matter? Is it still their fault that they are forced into selling themselves on the streets? Drug addictions are extremely difficult to break away from, and even harder when your only source of income is selling yourself for sex. Your comments made it sound like its the prostitutes faults they are getting killed for being out on the streets. No matter why they are there to say that is extremely ignorant, thats all i'm saying. | |

I was just thinking that is perhaps more likely that a prostitute HAD engaged in sexual activity in the hours prior to her death than in other cases of violence against women. Newspapres are using the term 'sexual assault', though I wonder how this is different from sexual intercourse in this instance. Surely sexual assault is sexual intercourse with or behaviour towards the person who does not consent to this? I think the distinction is that sexual assault is forced and there is associated physical damage. The old myth that a prostitute cannot be sexually assaulted is just that. I wouldn't class sex (either for money or not) as the same thing as sexual assault as it is a crime of violence and power rather than sex. Still, I think the reason they have released this is that it removes the thought that "oh, I'm not a prostitute so will be ok". He isn't going after them because he wants sex, it's because he hates women. | |
