LOL we will retain the Ashes keep the faith .

ray192 Posted on 13/12 9:16
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Harmison will play although bowling terribly out of form because he is meant to be our main strike bowler .

Cook must start and deliver because Joyce is a good player .

Stuar_Tripley Posted on 13/12 9:20
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

agree with the team Ray...let's hope Harmison serves up some proper chin music and not the pies he's been chucking down so far this series!!

Spoff_MFC Posted on 13/12 9:25
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

I agree with that team, although there is not much between Anderson and Harmison at the minute, Harmy has the potential to be awesome.

It's a three match series now, and we need to win 2-0. Last year we didn't lose to the Aussies for four consecutive tests.

We can do it.

C'MON ENGLAND

ray192 Posted on 13/12 9:26
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

S_T

I had to say him although he's bowling terribly but Anderson is not playing much better The point being we must take wickets so Harmison gets the nod just.

ray192 Posted on 13/12 9:28
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Spoff

Morning mate how are you? . Thats exactly how England must look at it C'MON .

Celestron Posted on 13/12 9:30
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Raymondo I was wondering when you were going to put up this thread I was going to it myself but chickened out ..Your team looks ok Harmison and Anderson have been quite woeful but the alternatives Mahmood apart are not excactly inspiring so I would drop Anderson and go with Harmison in the HOPE that at long last he can get it in the right spot..this however should be his last chance...Play starts at 2.30am might go to bed early and get a few hours kip before play starts...plenty of bacon in for the butties and plenty of Bakewell Tart for the frequent cuppas.

ray192 Posted on 13/12 9:39
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Celestron

Yes it's a right time for Cricket to come on here but i'll be watching every ball hopefully . Harmison and Anderson are both struggling sadly but Harmison has the ability to destroy anybody as you say last chance saloon.

captain5 Posted on 13/12 9:41
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

What time's your Bakewell tart coming round, Ray??

Make sure she doesn't distract you from the cricket.

Stuar_Tripley Posted on 13/12 9:41
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

yep, unfortunately Harmy seems to be pining for a bleak Geordie midwinter rather than a beaut Aussie summer!!

Anderson actually bowled a really tight spell on the evening of day 3...but i just don't think he does enough to worry the Aussie batsman. Mahmood will probably go the same way, but at least he has the pace to potentially unsettle the batsmen. If Anderson can learn some of the variations that Hog has over the years, he'll be a more threatening bowler in all conditions.

ray192 Posted on 13/12 9:41
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

CElestron

LOL @ you on the other thread but this is the one i'm on now C'MON ENGLAND .

LOL no chance of that during the dinner session .

ray192 Posted on 13/12 9:45
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

I agree with you but also about Anderson and Mahmood?, Mahmood is a better batter by far.

Celestron Posted on 13/12 9:46

borowally Posted on 13/12 10:32
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

M. Hussey test match average : 81.00
R. Ponting last two tests : 196, 60, 142, + 49
S. Warne closing in on 700 test wickets
A. Symonds destroyer of wayward bowling

Outcome of previous test, and the different effect on both teams.
I fear the worst.

Capybara Posted on 13/12 10:34
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Wouldn't be surprised if Panesar doesn't play. It's certainly what I would do if I was picking the side and had heard about Radio Five's ridiculous petition.

KEN_M Posted on 13/12 10:47
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Living in OZ I really wanted England to come here and win 5-0. (I have been a Boro Fan for 40 odd years and every August I still think we can win the league).

This was never going to happen, the reason is down to stupid incompetent management.

The organisers simply have not prepared well enough. one X 1 day and two X 3 day matches before the Brisbane test was stupid, (one of the 3 day matches was a fun game of 14 a side). I think it was in the serious 3 day match our supposed main strike bowler (Harmison) did not play.

The lead up to Adelaide was again let down by poor management with inadequate practice.

Now they are in Perth, on Monday (a nice 30 degree day) they did not practice, but they found the time to have a late night watching Elton John in concert. Yesterday they did practice (in 37 degree heat).

Now they are talking about dropping a spinner (Giles) and bringing in Panasar a different spinner, on a wicket that has been changed, so much so that over the last couple of months it has been as flat as a tack for quicks (Justin Langer described it as the best batting wicket he has ever played on), but it is taking spin like crazy.

After Adelaide Fletcher even tried to duck for cover by trying to blame Freddie for Team selection.

It is not really the team that has let us down, it is the team management.

This is what i've been saying for ages now the selection committee are a disgrace to English cricket .

Celestron Posted on 13/12 11:03
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

If as you say the wicket is "spinning like crazy" then there might be a case for including both Giles and Panesar in which case I would leave out Harmison..Yes our planning and organisation has been up to it's usual standard...crap.

ray192 Posted on 13/12 11:08
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Celestron

If they pick two spinners Anderson would be the one left out from the last test as Harmison will definitely play.

borowally Posted on 13/12 11:08
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Is it not true though, that while on tour, the line up for each match is decided by only TWO men. Duncan Fletcher and the skipper, Andrew Flintoff. Also, senior team members are asked for their opinions, Straus and Collingwood I believe.

ray192 Posted on 13/12 11:11
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

B_W

Yes your right like you said it's down to Fletcher and flintoff in the end.

Celestron Posted on 13/12 11:16
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Ray If the selection policy of this tour is adhered to rigidly for this test them Mahmood will play as he is a better batsmen than Harmison..

It's a big move but you'll probably not regret it. It depends ultimately where your heart is.
I'm first generation and have spent a good 13 years of my life in UK. I've been back (this time...) for 10 years odd and only just realised I'm now completely an aussie - it was the world cup that made me realise; last time round I'd shed a tear or 2 when blighty were knocked out by Brazil but I have to say I wasn't too bothered this time round.
There'll always be a part of me that's English (hard not to be when it runs through your veins), but I'm an aussie at heart, I think now.

The power of love is a curious thing
Make a one man weep, make another man sing
Change a hawk to a little white dove
More than a feeling thats the power of love

Tougher than diamonds, rich like cream
Stronger and harder than a bad girls dream
Make a bad one good make a wrong one right
Power of love that keeps you home at night

Chorus 1 :
You dont need money, dont take fame
Dont need no credit card to ride this train
Its strong and its sudden and its cruel sometimes
But it might just save your life
Thats the power of love
Thats the power of love

First time you feel it, it might make you sad
Next time you feel it it might make you mad
But youll be glad baby when youve found
Thats the power makes the world goround

Chorus 2 :
And it dont take money, dont take fame
Dont need no credit card to ride this train
Its strong and its sudden it can be cruel sometimes
But it might just save your life

They say that all in love is fair
Yeah, but you dont care
But you know what to do
When it gets hold of you
And with a little help from above
You feel the power of love
You feel the power of love
Can you feel it ?
Hmmm

Chorus 3 :
It dont take money and it dont take fame
Dont need no credit card to ride this train
Tougher than diamonds and stronger than steel
You wont feel nothin till you feel
You feel the power, just the power of love
Thats the power, thats the power of love
You feel the power of love
You feel the power of love
Feel the power of love

Raymondo...what an excellent performance so now it's up to the batsmen there are about 16 overs left today we do not want to be 25-3 at the close. Strauss and Cook have not had one decent partnership this series now would be a good time for a decent stand and set us up for a big score....got another bacon buttie on the go to celebrate.

Celestron Posted on 14/12 10:29
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

We did the right thing when we started our innings and got after the bowling we raced to 36 in no time but the 2 quick wickets put the brakes on. How we survived the last half hour without losing another wicket God knows but we did and at 51-2 it has been our day. Tomorrow we need a stand we need 2 players to put together 120-130 which will take us up to their total and we should then have a chance of a decent lead. The ball is only 14 overs old so Lee, Clarke and old Misery Guts will be on first thing so it will not be easy but as I say if we can hold it together and gain a decent lead then it will be MONTY TIME AGAIN.

Got to be impressed with the spirit shown today. Only the start, though. And Jones needs to get runs or Read's in for Melbourne.

I'm managing to get the first session from the Beeb, until the early shipping forecast, when the annoying tape loop about rights restrictions comes on. Then it's Aussie radio for the rest of the day, which has Agnew on regularly. He was getting all sorts of stick from Kerry O'Keeffe today.

If England win this test match, the Australian back-side will fall away from it's carraige and we'll win and draw the last two to retain the ashes.

Peterson's going to have to justify the quality of his
girlfriends with two Bothamesque innings' and Monthy will have to give us another 5 cheap wickets in the second half.

At least one embarrassing middle order collopse looks favourite at the mo though.

Useless fokkers, cant hit a cricket ball with a big lump of wood like that?

re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

We need a good start this morning from Strauss and Collingwood. Hussey showed you can bat on this pitch, and about 4 other Aussie batsmen looked settled before getting out.

We've still got the upper hand, but a couple of wickets this morning will change that.

Concentration is the key, today could be the most important of this test.

It was always going to be a tricky first hour, THe ausiies fired up and wanting to prove a point. if we can see it through without losing any more wickets it will get a bit easier once the bowlers tire a bit and the ball gets older. apparently Warne doesn't have a particulally good record at the WACA according to what the aussie commentator was saying on 5 Live Sp X

Ignore_Alien_Orders Posted on 15/12 7:25
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

L_E considering an hour and a half ago we were facing certain defeat, I'm all excited again.

It's been a facinating game. The things that have annoyed me though Cook, Bell, Collingwood got out cheaply by not concentrating.

Hussey showed all the England batsmen how to play this pitch, only Pieterson took any notice, and he looked nervy early on while getting used to the bounce.

Also the way Strauss lost his wicket left a sour taste in the mouth.

They way we let Symonds take 2 wickets as well, was very disapointing.

All in all though we can still win this game.

COME ON...........

well, i'm afraid that's the game (and the series) gone for England. Today was a chance for England to get back in to the series, and they failed to take it through sub-standard batting (KP, Strauss- who got another shocking decision- and the last 2 excepted).

Unfortunately, we don't have the mental capacity to win the game defining sessions. Australia to rack up over 400 in this innings and win by over 200 runs.

Celestron Posted on 15/12 10:43
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Despite having a good day yesterday which set is up with a chance of winning this game you feel that what has happened this morning was all too predictable. We needed Collingwood and Strauss to build a partnership but none of us were surprised when Colly was out to a sill shot early on. Strauss for the second innings in a row was unlucky he was just looking to have settled when the umpire gave a shocker, Flintoff and Jones got out to a man who isn't a test player in my book. Symonds is a one day player who can come in at No 5/6 get you 50/60 quick runs and bowl 10 tidy overs for the odd wicket or two and yet they made him look like Denis Lillee. Harmison and Monty showed them how it should be done they applied themselves to the task facing them and got us what should have been 40 vital runs but at 119-1 the game is slowly going away from us. Unless someone can bowl out of their skin tomorrow and peg back Australia then by the close tomorrow I fear the ashes will have just about gone. Much of what we have seen this past few weeks has been self inflicted the selection the preparation and some shoddy individual performances have done for us sadly.

re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Strauss given out already, another bad decision though.

Celestron Posted on 16/12 9:58
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

The decision was a good one Strauss shouldered arms (unforgivable) to a ball that swung back into him...if you don't play a shot then you are asking for trouble..

12-1..we are rocking and rolling now.

Celestron Posted on 16/12 10:06
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Close of play 18-1 only another 539 to win.

Anyone seen Raymondo?..hope he hasn't slashed his wrists.

"It's amazing what you can do when you come in at 365-5 no pressure on just throw the bat."

NO.It's amazing what you can do when playing against third rate losers.

Fastest 100 in test history. What does that tell you about England? To me it says that during that 100 England were the worst fielding side in test history.

Nothing short of a fkin disgrace.

Celestron Posted on 16/12 10:19
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Presumably we were third raters in Australias First innings Gilchrist came in at 172-5 when the pressure was on him he was out he lasted 4 balls 172-6..Second innings Gilchrist arrives at the crease at 365-5 the game is as good as won and lost like I said its amazing what you can do when you come in at 365-5 no pressure on just throw the bat.

Yes England have been dismal not only in this game but ever since they arrived in Australia and "third rate losers" sounds about right..

BoroMutt Posted on 16/12 10:21
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

"Nothing short of a fkin disgrace." - rubbish we lost this series in the second test when we folded cheaply after playing well THAT was a disgrace, losing a quick fire ton to one of the most destructive batsmen currently playing the game is understandable given teh circumstances of the game (probably not forgiveable though)...

Time for Fletcher to go. Freddie is a great player but should NEVER have been given the captaincy, Strauss should have continued. Reed should have played instead of the run-scoring machine that isn't G Jones. Monty should have played instead of the wicket-taking, run-scoring machine that isn't Ashley Giles. We shouldn't have gone home after the ICC trophy but straight to Australia for a four dayer. All of which can be laid at the door of Duncan Fletcher.

Thanks Dunc but good bye.

Huan_Kerr Posted on 16/12 10:30
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

11/4 the whitewash. Generous.

Where's captain marvel? Injured? If he is he shouldnt be there.

They were heroes and given the status of Gods.
With the same passion they should ridiculed for the no-hopers that they are.

I'm very very bitter about it. I've got two good mates that have saved every penny for the last two years to be there.

I'll be there at Durham next year down at the third man boundary.

"Oi Flintoff, you're a vvanker"

re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Pad up? If the ball goes anywhere near our pads, no matter how high Rudi will give it out!!!

Stuar_Tripley Posted on 16/12 11:10
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

England are mentally not strong enough- test cricket requires high levels of concentration, not many of the current test side have displayed that during this series.

Yes we have missed key players this series (most noticably Simon Jones), but who in the England side has been prepared to knuckle down and accept the challenge in this series? Not many....there have been sporadic examples of it, but not the sustained efforts you have seen from a champion side like Australia.

Ignore_Alien_Orders Posted on 16/12 11:20
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Celestron, can you explain to me please how Strauss's dismissal was a good descision.

I always thought there were no grey areas in LBW shouts, the ball go's on to hit the wicket or it dosn't.

The ball was clearly missing the bails, and if it was any higher it would have missed his pad. Why should he have to play a shot and risk getting a nick.

TheBoroBoss61 Posted on 16/12 15:20
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

The Fastest Test Century was scored by Viv Richards 56 balls.

Gilchrist's was 57 balls.

George1507 Posted on 16/12 18:02
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

It was one ball more than Richards' innings, but Richards made his at a far smaller ground in Antigua I think.

Blowers reckons Gilchrist would have passed 100 7 balls earlier if the boundaries were the same size.

Certainly the most exciting innings I ever saw.

Nedkat Posted on 16/12 19:34
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

When England won the Ashes, it wasn't a fluke, it was damn good cricket played by a dedicated and decent team. This team isn't up to it, simple as that. Flintoff is NOT captain material, and as far as the bloody selectors go .. we should let them leave, I'm sure they have lawns to mow.
Shame really, I was looking for a soild disply from the lads, but we've been embarrassed by the Aussies, and they deserve it.

re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

mornin guys, Have you all given up on this thread and on Englands chances. just got home from a Xmas party night out. meal in Borgas in Stockton then night out in the pubs of said town. Maybe it's all the lager but 2 full days to get 5 hundred and however many runs seems very gettable if the lads apply themselves. (or am I just being over positive given my drunken state, hic)

bad squad selection from the start as cost us
not enough preperation to start with
i would of like to see broad been given a chance but thats my opinion
people go on about what a prospect mamhood is i just can't see it
ive seen better bowlers playing league cricket

I'll raise another glass to your staying power Ray, now that I'm in Mb. Hope it's as good a local brew as the one the other week in Brisbane. I'll need something the cushion the blows of ridicule I'll be receiving over here.

Stuar_Tripley Posted on 18/12 9:04
re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

A host of reasons why England didn’t compete in this series:

- after the ICC trophy in India, the squad should have gone straight on to Australia to acclimatise (and play some proper warm-up games). It was ridiculous for them to come all the way back to England for 1 week, especially for such a short 7-week tour.
- Flintoff clearly isn’t fully fit, since Brisbane he’s been protecting his ankle, and has been bowling about 10mph lower than his usual speed. Coupled with the fact that Harmison’s head was all over the place for the 1st 2 tests and our 4th seamer (Anderson/ Mahmood) either aren’t experienced enough or good enough yet, we’ve been left with Hoggard holding the attack (and belatedly Panesar in the 3rd test. Result- England have taken 39 wkts, Australia 60 in the 1st 3 tests. Simon Jones has been a big miss.
- Mentally not strong enough, the entire team should be given a copy of ‘Out of my comfort zone’ by Steve Waugh and be told to digest. I genuinely believe there isn’t a great disparity in skills between the 2 sides….with the exception of the freak that is Shane Warne….however, when there was the opportunity to turn the screw on Oz (2nd test at Adelaide after we’d put 550+ on the board, and 3rd test at Perth where Oz were dismissed for under 250, we didn’t take it. KP can be excused to an extent, because he is by a long way England (South Africa!)’s best batsman.
- Playing Giles instead of Panesar. Also, the selection of G Jones was/is a joke. I’m not saying Read would have changed the course of a series, but the guy has been given a raw deal, especially when you see how crap Jones has been with the bat.

On the plus side, I think there is a sea change afoot….i know it’s a cliché, the Australian side is ageing, and Warne and McGrath (whilst still a major threat) are not as dominant as they have been in the past. Stuart Clark has been Australia’s best bowler. Whilst the batting looks strong, Langer, Gilchrist and Hayden are not as consistent as they once were, and probably only have a couple of years left before retiring. Ponting, Clarke and Hussey have had great series’ however. Lee has been his usual erratic self, too much dross being sent down to subsidise the great spells he comes up with now and again. Symonds is a clown, pure and simple.

re: Australia v ENGLAND third test.

Good morning Ray, not much festive cheer on the sporting front at the moment, never mind, the only way is UP.Any other "way" is NOT an option ! Can't help but feel the test squad was on a loser, the moment Vaughan declared himself unfit to play. He's a class act, both as a player and more importantly as a skipper. He stands up to the Aussies and won't flinch, no matter what is thrown at him. Also, with Freddie as captain, he wanted Giles in, and Vaughan might of had a bigger influence over the gloveman.I've listened to a lot of the TMS coverage and Boycott has criticsied the tour itinary and Fletcher from day one.Who do you fancy taking over then ? Bob Woolmer ?
