How long have you been playing, how often do you practise and what stage are you at now? I started 11 months ago, I couldn't play a chord then, now I can learn most songs if I sit down for long enough. I can make up my own simple rhythms but can't improvise anything, only play what I'm told will work which is frustrating at the minute. Learning Alive by Pearl Jam at the minute because I love the song and can practise bends etc. Also slowley working my way through Black Dog by Led Zeppelin but I'm no Jimmy Page.

About 2 years, for one and a half of those i was pretty terrible, however its just seemed to click last 3 or 4 months and i can play pretty much most riffs i want to, not sure how, i always think my own riffs sound much better in my head than actually being played though, so that needs a bit of work i think. Attempted to learn (at half speed) through the fire and the flames by Dragon Force last week - needless to say it was still insanley fast and i gave up pretty quick!

"through the fire and the flames by Dragon Force last week " HAHA wouldn't even attempt to play that, I'm sure their guitarist has motorised fingers.

8 years only been good the last year and a half tho playing in a band makes the biggest improvments
