| Running Trainers | |
I need a pair of running trainers, I've just been training before in tatty old trainers or bare feet if I go kick boxing. My hands been forced this week though with my gym and kick boxing closed in the run up to Christmas so have to go running outside in the cold. Any good shops in the area for a pair or will it just have to be JJB sports?

Coabin - you have got to go to a proper running shop, is there a branch of up and running near you? They will probably give you a pair and watch you run up and down the street in them to assess you running style. They will then "fit" you to 3 or 4 makes and models and let you try them all to see which one feels right., They may cost £39 or £139 but that is the way to get a pair that is right for you. Do not go to a JJB, hte kids in there know nothing about running. If you can't get to a shop you could do mail order, but even that is risky without knowing what type of running action you have. recently I have had Ascis but now prefer New Balance but I am a pronator and the New Balance suit my action. --- Post edited by boksic on 19/12 15:05 ---

I need to start training, if you pass someone who resembles Mick Quinn on Thames Road it might be me. Put on about 2.5 stone on this job, need to rid it in 5 months. Getting married.

Looks like there's a branch of up and running in Darlington, wouldn't hae a clue how to find it though. Was hoping for somewhere closer as well. Thanks anyway though.

yep, everything Boksic said. get yourself to a proper running shop, they will hump you on a running machine and analyse your walking and running action. Then they'll fix you up with a proper pair of trainers, not the JJB sports streetcred ones. I bought a pair of saucony shoes, super comfy. 90gbp to you sir. That was the easy thing. using them in anger reuires some strong mental strength !

My mrs swears by sacuony, sometimes see them on offer, but I prefer asics or new balance. My most recent new balance were also £90 but I will get 6 months out of them which will include training for probably 3 10km races and 2 or 3 half marathons.

up and running in darlo is a good shop. next one is in Newcastle. There is a shop called Blacks in Stockton but not much of a selection. I am currently a New Balance fan but also pronate like boksic.

running feet in stockton is a little limited but ok. theres a decent shop on bedale high street called Dale Sports which also is quite ok. if you fancy a day out northern runner in newcastle is very good as is the sweatshop in york. service in these 2 shops is great. stockton and bedale prob wont make you run up and down, but the other 2 will.

I'll probably be in the Boro training gear to keep warm. Do you think it possiblt to lose 2.5 stone in 5 months? Healthy eating and plenty of excercise?

Ste, if you're down Leeds soon there's a shop called 'Up and Running' that are really good. They put you on a treadmill, video your running style and analyse the results to find the best trainer for you.
