Diamond Dogs this Monday! (Good Music Inside)

I'll just whack the facts on here as I know you lot get sold allsorts on here:

We do this club night once a month in Basement, the old Blaises Saturday indie room. Still the same room, but obviously not as rank as you may want it to be. The music policy is simple: there's enough of the new stuff getting touted around and there's nothing worse than 'going through the motions' in a club - so we play everything 1959 - 1999. All night long.

We're open to everyone and attract a very friendly crowd of about 180 - 200. No face paint, no glowsticks, no jeans halfway down the arse. Pints are £1.50, Alcopops £1.50, Doubles and Mixer £2.00 and Shots £1.00. Robbo would have loved it.

This month we've also got 3 great talents doing their own little 2 or 3 song tributes to some of the greats: Richey Beatlemaniac as John Lennon, Dickens Inn 'Open Mic Pete' with a couple of Kurt Cobain penned tracks and Matty from The Romance as his hero, Mr Johnny Cash. Drunken singalong fun of the highest order.

Also feel free to grab a dentist chair and feel the laughing powers of our very own in-house specialist, the 'BOSS OF NOS' - balloons served up all night!

Thats it, thats our little underground party.

McGee, hope you and young Emma are well!

Think i'll make Long Blondes, should be a good gig.. i've not seen them since last year, they've got 'proper' fans and an album now so no doubt they'll be next weeks' last week.

Think i'm off to Brighton on Saturday if you're getting your mod on, if not we'll hopefully see you next week for your usual hours worth of Smiths/Joy Division/Cure demands.

I was wondering what actually went on in the Basement. The only time I'd been down there post-refurb was as part of MML (those walls could do with grubbying up a bit), and since then I've known of no other reason to pay a visit. I thought maybe it was used for wild sex parties or domino nights and the like.

Looking at that playlist, it seems a decent cup of tea - a good sprinkling of fine classics that would have me gyrating my person appropriately to Pixies/Smiths/Clash/Cure...

Modern music is rubbish.

To be honest i'm not entirely sure what they get upto in there either. We go in, do our thing and leave. It'll be a mix of local pr's doing specialist house/funk/hiphop stuff. Weird that they have a gay/gay-friendly night on a Saturday, but apparently its full every week.

We just like it because its a nice little dark hole in the floor. No frills and independant - suits the music. If Garlands collapses
we're fooked mind!

I'll be making my Diamond Dogs debut, spread the word and I'll have 50% of the extra money you make from the ensuing delerium and increased door money that this event will bring.

I posted about your night the other week, I said it was crap and you played Status Quo albums in chronological order back to back from 7 till 2.

Good night last night, knackered now like.

Left after 'John Lennon', we'll probably be down next month aswell Gaz.

I enjoyed the music, no Klaxons or Fratellis!!

"so we play everything 1959 - 1999"

You then list "There she goes my beutiful world" by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds which is from the album "Abattoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus" and was released in 2004.

Any chance of a set list Dobson?

re: Diamond Dogs this Monday! (Good Music Inside)

I'll get a setlist up later tonight fella, glad you had a good time.

As for the Nick Cave error, correct! It was an accident, I went to put Stagger Lee on originally.

Wondered when someone would point that out, 10 house points!
