Can it be done?

Never tried, but I would think if you click on the bar above the icons of envelopes open/closed/forwarded etc it will do it.

I've got "sort by icon" in 2007, which is kind of what you want.

Right click on the columns at the top of your mail view and click "Customise current view", then add the read column.

Do you not have a unread items folder....there is on mine?

Find all my unread messages
In the Navigation Pane, click the plus sign (+) next to Search Folders to display its subfolders.
Click the Unread Mail folder.
Your unread items are displayed in the message list.

You may only have this option if you are on an Exchange Server though.

Well done PK, I was worried that wouldn't specify which of my own subfolders the unread message was in but it does.
