Aaron Lennon

Anyone got any assist stats? Or is it the case that he'd actually be more use at Walthamstow dog track than White Hart Lane?

Big_Shot Posted on 16/3 11:22
re: Aaron Lennon

In the PL 3 goals and 6 assits, 4 and 11 in all competitions. Cracking player.

How does that compare to Downing?

Better on both counts.

I think he's rubbish. the most over-rated pile of pap in the prem. Wow, he's fast and can dribble. No final product

Fair enough. Every time I've seen him I've come to the same impression as towz, so I obviously haven't seen him enough.

He puts the shitts up defenders.

I'm not a huge fan of him, if he was a yard or two slower would he be a Premiership player?

re: Aaron Lennon

cant believe some of the crap put on here

one of the reasons spurs are such an attacking side is because of him

to be brutally honest

would swap him for downing in a flash

thats just my opinion though

knows how to beat a man where as downing cant

re: Aaron Lennon

I think he's a good player, and would be ace for us.... Downing offers far more to the team as a whole though.

re: Aaron Lennon

I think people tend to lump all diminutive pacy wide men together as being overrated. I do this myself as I think a lot tend to be, but because they catch the eye more they get championed. Shaun Wright Phillips is an excellent example of this. But Aaron Lennon is an exception. Very skillful and comfortable in possession. Has a lot more to his game than just looking to beat the full back. Would be comfortable playing behind the stikers. Contrary to popular belief he does have an end product.

bubblesmfc Posted on 16/3 11:35
re: Aaron Lennon

He's better than Dyer but it would seem that a lot of people get dazzled by pace rather than actual end product.

re: Aaron Lennon

He's alright. Strikes me as a Kieron Dyer type.

I don't buy into all the hype, every time I've seen him he just looks too lightweight, a better marking, younger full-back could have him easy. His key flaw in my view is that he does what Downing often does and stops, wrecking his momentum then forced into making a less accurate pass into the melée.

spot on bigshot... the guy is class and not

only quick...

shame that people need to have a pop so often at young players...
downing is a good player, lennon is a very good player...we should be glad we have them rather than slating them

lennon for £1m was a bargain and he has created many chances let alone assists, and has scored a few... and that flick for tainio's goal at the spam was just class :-)

re: spot on bigshot... the guy is class and not

Thank god it means we dont get Scoea going on about how he doesnt have an "end product" endlessly.

It started to become an ongoing theme on here with plenty of others joining in and was frankly embarrassing.

re: spot on bigshot... the guy is class and not

Lucky_Alf, over the summer, even post the world cup Lennon had done nowt, his stats were keiron dire... he's improved a hell of a lot this season.

Big_Shot Posted on 16/3 11:59
re: spot on bigshot... the guy is class and not

Was an absolute bargain for £1m. I think at the time we could have probably got him over Spurs what with him being a lot closer to home. Don't get me wrong I'm glad we bring our own young players through but I think we should have be more aware of Lennon being available and made a move. Him on one flank and Downing on the other would have been excellent. Hopefully we'll have to make do with Milner instead

That was clearly because he had only just got in the team.

re: Aaron Lennon

This season he has been much less prolific in terms of shots and crosses than Downing, but more productive.

Lennon (1570 min played):
Shots 12, Goals 3.
Crosses 23, Assists 6.

Downing (2370 min played):
Shots 24, Goals 2.
Crosses 134, Assists 3.

re: Aaron Lennon

Lennon never has a good game against a decent side.

He'll play well against crap like the relegation fodder, but as soon as he comes up against decent opposition he goes missing.

Would far rather have Stewy.

Big_Shot Posted on 16/3 12:04
re: spot on bigshot... the guy is class and not

Although they are a good indicator on how productive a player has been in terms of scoring and creating, stats aren't the be all and end all. Lennon was excellent throughout the 2nd half of last season. That form rightly earned him his world cup place. Same thing can be said of Downing. They were the form wide men.

Alf - one of the most embarrassing aspects of this board is your petty posting. Bandito knows all about that.

I don't think Lennon is as good as some would like to believe and I certainly don't think he is as good as Downing. This season he has looked better but for me (particularly for England) I don't think he has as good an end product as Downing.

Is that OK by you or is it embarrassing because you disgree?

Whooaa there Jaws!

Save your obsessions for players who are regarded as being good but are REALLY pants, like Dyer and Jenas!

TheSmogMonster Posted on 16/3 14:39
re: spot on bigshot... the guy is class and n

Lennon (1570 min played):
Shots 12, Goals 3.
Crosses 23, Assists 6.

Downing (2370 min played):
Shots 24, Goals 2.
Crosses 134, Assists 3.

I think those stats show that that Lennon cuts inside more then Downing, and it ignores all the 'second ball' assists Downing gets, most of our goals come through Downing.

It shows if anything Lennon can't cross and he knows it, to have his pace and ability to beat a full back and to not put more then a cross a game in is odd.

I'd say Lennons a good player but a different kind of player, both of them in the same side would keep your opponents busy... hell Downings job'll be 10x easier when we are a threat on the right too.
