The Fall gig review please, Rob???

Were they any good at Leeds last night then? I couldn't make it (yet again!).

re: The Fall gig review please, Rob???

Yes new band is superb. Bass player strode on looking like Paul the bearded Boro fan and started playing Reformation - rest of the band plug in. On comes Mr Smith in leather jacket - sings and gurns a bit removes leather jacket to reveal a black collared t-shirt over a white shirt.

Great set - mainly of songs of new album and last 2. Stand out moments were blistering version of Mountain Energie, What About Us and Blindness. Many of which they played surprisingly short sharp versions of. Best of all though a new classic Systematic - ending with fans shouting out the chorus "Systematic Abuse" as the band played on.

Had 2 bass players - and grinning US drummer who really piles into his kit.

Fashion update - Mark removed his black polo shirt and then at the end of a song murmered - "got the wrong shirt on" he put his leather jacket back on.

He also asked for proper lights "not Yorkshire lights."

At the end of the gig I saw Mark Smith's mam and sister sitting at the back. His sister asked the stall woman for Post Nearly Man LP - stall woman replied we've never had that. Mark's sister turned to me and in best Coronation Street accent exclaimed "Oooohhhhh."

Will that do?

A few more reviews for Dr Buck.

Am regretting that I am not following them round actually. This could be remembered as a vintage tour.

Smith was on good form last night - as the people say he was actually talking and laughing between songs.

At the end he said to bearded bass player - you sing it - the bassman laughed - and looked down at the stage where Mark Smith had extracted every mic from its stand - how was he supposed to sing and play at the same time with no microphones set up. Smith burst out laughing as well and set up a microphone for the said Rob to shout "What About Us" to finish the set.

I met a couple of Boro blokes in there as well.

Cheers Rob, I'm sick as a parrot that I keep missing them. I'll have to catch this new lot before they have a punch up and leave.

Easter Monday at Jillies Rockworld Manchester might be the place.

The guitarist is extremely sheepish - keeps head down on stage and doesn't dare turn his amp back up when Mark turns it off - he could be the first to run into problems.
