Cole Porter

Just listening to a Cole Porter collection, he starts "Lets do it(Lets fall in love)" with :-

"Chinks do it, Japs do it...."

What words are used nowadays if it's sung, surely not that?

re: Cole Porter

Really? I thought it was "Birds do it, bees do it, even educated fleas do it"?

re: Cole Porter

That's it, however young Cole doesnt sing that on the version I've got.

Bloody Wainwright, got me spending a fortune on Itunes after I downloaded his Imix.

re: Cole Porter

When the little bluebird
Who has never said a word
Starts to sing Spring
When the little bluebell
At the bottom of the dell
Starts to ring Ding dong Ding dong
When the little blue clerk
In the middle of his work
Starts a tune to the moon up above
It is nature that is all
Simply telling us to fall in love

And that's why birds do it, bees do it
Even educated fleas do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

Cold Cape Cod clams, 'gainst their wish, do it
Even lazy jellyfish do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

I've heard that lizards and frogs do it
Layin' on a rock
They say that roosters do it
With a doodle and cock

Some Argentines, without means do it
I hear even Boston beans do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

When the little bluebird
Who has never said a word
starts to sing Spring spring spring
When the little bluebell
At the bottom of the dell
Starts to ring Ding ding ding
When the little blue clerk
In the middle of his work
Starts a tune

The most refined lady bugs do it
When a gentleman calls
Moths in your rugs they do it
What's the use of moth balls

The chimpanzees in the zoos do it,
Some courageous kangaroos do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

I'm sure sometimes on the sly you do it
Maybe even you and I might do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

Yer right there fw.

What version is that? Bizarre.

Have you seen Delovely? I wanted to see it when it came out, but Gillandi stood me up and I forgot all about it until now. I'll have to hunt it out.

Not sure FW_2, it's on "Lets Misbehave - a Cole Porter collection 1927 - 1940".

I havent heard of Delovely either.

No Bandy, that's the best bit of wedding organisation choosing the songs.

I'm not actually choosing songs, just exploring stuff of itunes.

Sounds fascinating to me. Though, presumably, they came associated with A-sides as well.

Yes, I remember. Town Hall? fall, john cooper clarke? Gillandi having a bad hair day? Don't tell him he'll come round my house and bop me one.

re: Cole Porter

Capybara meet Beerwulf. Beerwulf meet Capybara.

Time for me to go home now. Bye all.

That's it Beerwulf. And if anyone's going to do the bopping, it'll be me - he owes me a trip to the flicks to see Delovely.

re: Cole Porter

Cole Porter was partial to the odd 'near' version of his lyrics- this is his mucky 'You're the tops'

You're the top
You're Miss Pinkham's tonic
You're the top
You're a high colonic.
You're the burning heat of a bridal suite in use
You're the breasts of Venus
You're King Kong's penis,
You're self-abuse
You're an arch
In the Rome collection
You're the starch
In a groom's erection
I'm an enuch who
Has just been through an op,
But if, Baby, I'm the bottom
You're the top

re: Cole Porter

Miss (Lillian) Pinkhams tonic was an infertility tonic and was also the inspiration for the Scaffold's 'Lily the Pink'
