These talking CCTV systems then.....

I had presumed that the first report I saw was an elaborate and well-presented April Fool. The fact that most of the networks are reporting it and John Reid has chipped in implies to me that in fact they are genuine and happening.

That being the case, can we assume that we are all engaged in some gigantic behavioural experiment where those running it say "OK, they all know the book, they know what to look out for in an authoritarian state, now let's see how long before they actually start to object"?

I'm proud to see Teesside taking a leading role in proving Orwell correct.

"hey you smackhead with the blue tracky top on, stop stabbing that other youth now"
can't see it working somehow

You can't help thinking it would just be more cost effective to have police or wardens walking around.

It's just a matter of time before they start putting microphones everywhere so they can snoop and listen in to what we are saying...it will come believe me.

I think it will work in the sense of crime in the night time economy; stopping fights etc as it already has shown to do, however Iím also sure people will start trying to make it talk by doing certain acts. Although I must say the job as the speaker would be good
And I donít really mind this Orwellian style society! I have nothing to hide and if it stopped somebody from committing an offence then its good and without CCTV it would be hard to catch many criminals

You can just imagine having a knee trembler being shown on UTube, live from branbles farm...

1984 blah blah Orwell was right blah Police State /yawn

Maybe the cameras wouldn't be there if there wasn't a need for them.

I reckon the revolt will be led by the street sweepers. If everyone is being shouted at to pick their litter up from a control room in Bangalore (or Marton Manor), they'll be out of a job.

This "I have nothing to hide" argument. Isn't there an extremely glib phrase about having curtains at your windows that could be employed?

What? "Then they came for the curtains, and there was no one left to defend me"?

Apparently the Minister for Curtains wouldn't be drawn on the subject.

In other parts fo the country they test pilot schemes such as transport schemes etc.

In Middlesbrough you pilot talking CCTV cameras.

I see the futures bright for Teesside still.
