Rocky and Julio in the centre?

Worth seeing what these two can do in central midfield for the last 2 games? We certainly looked a lot better yesterday when they paired up. Hard to judge how well it could work in half an hour but is it worth giving it a stab for the last 2 games? George looked decent at right back too, better than Davies anyway.

re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

It's easy to say now but I've been saying for a long time that Rocky and Arca in the middle could be the way forward. Both have a bit of guile and both have a bit of craft.
There may be a future for Boateng at right back although coming up against a pacey winger would cause big problems I imagine.

There is no future for Boateng at right back ffs.

IT'S MENDI TIME FFS

re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

It should have been Mendi time om a few occasions this season considering the distinct lack of talent in our midfield. I'm not saying I think he should still be here next year, but should have been used this.

re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

ive said about 2 months ago that i think the way to get the best out of rocky is to play him in the centre with arca, both are box to box if you like and between them there is alot of energy, arca is committed to get into the box and i think with the 2 of them there both with good shots we have a much bigger goal treat in midfield, agains wigan they have no good midfielders that we should need to play with boateng seen as they do all their football route 1 style, boateng is not the answer at right back, rockemback has been playing so well and arca showed what he can do yesterday so i dont think either can be dropped in less we drop yakubu in favour of a 5 man midfield and have downing and johnson as wing forwards but i dont we why we need to do that agains a piss poor team like wigan

re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

You say there's no future for Boateng at right back FFS, but you forget that the alternatives are Davies and Parnaby for the rest of the season.

I would much rather have a quality right back brought in but Boateng has the sort of qualities that you need in a right back. He can tackle, he can pass, he can get forward all these qualities were shown yesterday in the brief spell that he played there.
He seems to have been overwhelmed in midfield this season as the tackles can come from anywhere, at right back I think he could be very composed on the ball and allow us to play out of defence rather than just booting it.

You need more from your full backs in the premier league than just booting it up to the front men.
As I said, I'd rather have a quality right back in for next season but I can't think of one who we'll get.

Queue many to say "Tony McMahon".

Mendi at right back would be worth a try.

a quick left winger would skin mendi for pace

re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

id give it ago, seasons over so why nt try somthing new im sure boat would be greatfull for the rest.

id play

____________schwarzer
Xavier---Woody---Poggy----Taylor
Johnston---Rocky--Arca--Downing
__________Viduka--Gook Lee

Might aswell see if FR and JA can play together it looked ok yesterday,

Downing often gets doubled up so its nice to have the option of swithing flanks with Johnstone,

Give Gook a game, i want him to score b4 the close of the season plus he's not shy of a bit of off the ball running, somthing weve missed for awhile,

maybe even give a young un a run out at right back, (hines play there? machmahon back?)

re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

magichew boateng can tackle and pass!!!!! just who have you been watching? one of the reasons rocky and arca played so well was that boateng was out of the way at right back. they will play even better when he is further out the way at another club. get rid of the spud!!!!

Stephen Hawking would skin mendi for pace.

re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

Have a look at our most promising moves from yesterday, business picked up when the changes were made. They came from the right hand side.

I've been Boatengs biggest critic this season and I wanted him off for Arca yesterday but when Davies went off and Boateng went right back I was impressed.

I'm not getting carried away, I'm saying for the time being, give it a try, we looked much better. Anyway may initial point was to say how well Rochemback and Arca did.

re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

Im a big fan of rocky and its good to see that people are finally getting off his back.

Boateng at right back ffs Parnaby should be ahead of Abel

Morrison...Arca...Boateng....downing should be the midfield against Wigan

re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

Boateng has proved this season that he's past it as a Premiership force. Time to bench him.

re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

My tongue was a bit "in cheek" when i mentioned Boateng at right back! However i would definitely like to see Rocky and Arca given a go in the centre.

re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

I'd be all for Rocky and Arca in the centre, sadly, Southgate will not drop Boateng.

STOP FUKING CALLING HIM JOHNSTON!!!!!

re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

Theres been an argument on here saying Rocky and Arca would be too lightweight in midfield, but look at the major sides. Carrick and Scholes are hardly heavyweights but they never seem to get bullied out of games, god knows teams have tried! I think two central midfielders who can pass and are clever would be a nice change, plus Rochemback could play in his preferred position of holding midfielder.

AtomicLoonybin Posted on 29/4 16:42
re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

We could just try boxing it up, and playing three centre halfs - god knows, it's probably our strongest position; two full backs (Parnaby and Taylor) who like getting forward, and three centre midfield - George, Rocky, Arca. Then either Yak and Vid, or Vid + attacking midfielder - Morrison.

Yep, that does mean dropping Downing. He looks knackered anyway - been a long season for him. But if you want adventure, Johnson and Downing as wingbacks.

A draw at Wigan will see us over the finishing line, albeit limping.

Mendi now plays with a zimmer frame - and he's still faster than George!

re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

Yes, I'm afraid poor old George is a spent force.

Chappy_112 Posted on 29/4 17:17
re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

Play Boateng right midfield. He has the engine to get up and down and he's put in some quality crosses when he's found himself out wide. He can't do no worse than Cattermole, plus it gives us a chance to see two 'footballers' in centre mid for the last 2 games.

Boromart Posted on 29/4 19:59
re: Rocky and Julio in the centre?

CranksCrunshers, Boateng is always top 3 in our team for number of passes, and usually top for passing accuracy.

Boat was a rightback until he was about 21/22 when he was midway through his first season at Coventry he was converted to central midfield. I don't think the idea of playing him at rightback is a bad one. He gets through a lot of work, but the game tends to pass him by these days in the middle, I would consider giving him a go at rightback. He gets more time on the ball out wide, and is a better passer than ALL our other right back choices.

...........Schwartzer
Boateng..Woody...Pogo....Taylor
Mozza...Rochemback...Arca...Downing
........Viduka.....LDG

cattermole also has all the attributes to become a decent right back also me thinks.
