re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

Funnily enough the original Twang were a duo in the early 80s and the bass player Jonny Sergeant was from Acklam.

Not at all sure about Tony Christie. Malcolm might have been a better bet.

Tony is already known to many Boro fans - he did a gig on the pitch at The Valley last season before the FA Cup Quarter Final.

quite underwhelmed by tony christie i must admit. after looking through the other line up, there may be some acts to get me down there.

"Audience members will not be able to bring their own alcohol on to the site, but there will however still be a selection of on site bars and catering available."

So begins the steady decline.

Definitely going to see Good Shoes and The Twang.

That line up isn't a patch on last years

looks like sun-soaked all-day drinking will be the only draw this year...oh well, if you must...

I believe they are going to cordon off the main festival area this time. I don't think there will be as many stages either. But sadly the alcohol thing had to happen too many youngsters ratted etc.

I just don't get this whole post-ironic love of things kitsch. I find it very conceited and patronising.

He was a good singer in his day.

Shiny for Capy.

Difference is, I really do love U2, I don't pretend to. So sue me.

Pama International are quite good. Reggae/ska outfit featuring one of The Specials

Questions_Questions Posted on 3/5 12:36
re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

I wonder how they'll keep people with alcohol out?

There are sites all over the town centre.

They need to do something though with all the teenage chavs pissed up looking for trouble with their tops off. Loads of vvankers throwing cans on the stage last year.

Ungrateful little turds.

anth25 Posted on 3/5 12:36
re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

Is he defintely headlining?

There is a Gazette article online which mentions about him playing an afternoon slot on the main stage. Cahn't see that myself for such a "big name" but I guess that would be OK so long as there was a decent headliner.

However if he is main hedliner then pretty underhwelming not that the main headliner s normally whatdefines a good MML. Generally plenty of other good band to see.

Was hoping for Maximo Park but I guess that may be aiming a bit too high

littlejimmy Posted on 3/5 12:40
re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

Don't get the attraction of festivals at all, these days. Too many harseholes around and too much standing around in muddy fields with crappy facilities and over-priced food.

rob_fmttm Posted on 3/5 12:46
re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

As I understand it you will have to pass through gates for all the outdoor stages - so therefore stewards will take any drink off you passing in. This will stop any can incidents etc. The outdoor stages aren't as far spread this year.

Nice bit of sarcasm

re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

Look out for The Hours on the empire stage, bought their album about a month ago, really good. Ali in the Jungle is the best track.

rob_fmttm Posted on 3/5 12:57
re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

There will be a Studio 64 stage outside Dr Browns as well with local acts. I think a certain band from Hartlepool may be headlining. Think of negative colours.

I'll be hoping to catch The Hours.

fluteloop Posted on 3/5 13:14
re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

I have to say i'm really dissapointed with this years line up and the fact you can't take your booze is a minus. I reckon the numbers of people going may be down this year.

A_New_Era Posted on 3/5 13:15
re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

And no alcohol. Yes it stops the chavs slapping each other about, but it will stop alot of people going too

The Hours are great. Best band all day!

Check out Amy McDonald and The Envy Corps too.

rob_fmttm Posted on 3/5 13:16
re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

I think numbers might depend on the weather - they have been outrageously unlucky with the weather in past years. Surely there can't be freak summer storms again.

onthemap Posted on 3/5 13:19
re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

Sounds great, nothing to drink and Tony Christie, you kids today have got it made.

trodbitch Posted on 3/5 13:20
re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

Tony Christie is a terrible gimmick 'headiner'. And I say 'headliner' in quotes because let's be honest, he wouldn't be playing anywhere if Peter Kay hadn't decided to use that song to promote how 'off the wall' and retro he was, would he?

I'd be more excited if I found out Jade Goody was going to be opening an new ALDI, it's that level of small-time.

missimo Posted on 3/5 13:21
re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

Didn't they try and stop people taking their own alcohol last year? I distinctly remember there being fences around the main stage area?

rob_fmttm Posted on 3/5 13:21
re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

There is drink but only from beer tents. Don't know what prices are usually like.

But I'm not sure this will affect Studio 64 stage outside Dr Browns.

That's right Missimo - so they are extending those fences around the two (or is it three?) outside stages.

Maybe Jade Goody will open the new Aldi when it finally opens on the Infirmary site - cannot wait?

re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

Ah I see. That's not such a problem then, they didn't even bother searching bags and things last time, I think we ended up still having a few crates with us.

I suppose if you look a bit dodgy they will be more likely to search you, of if you're 15 with some tracksuit bottoms tucked into your socks with your top thrown over your shoulder, caps peak heading further north by the second and a can of Diamond White attached to your mit etc. etc.

fluteloop Posted on 3/5 13:28
re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

Last year you weren't allowed to take in glass bottles cans were fine. To be honest all the chavs will still get wasted on the street as they always do, they don't exactly go for the music they've never heard of. Although i have a horrible thought of a bunch of chavs in front of the main stage doing Peter Kay impressions to Amarillo! :(

missimo Posted on 3/5 13:33
re: Tony Christie headlines MML 07

Tony Christie is indeed very underwhelming when you look at some of the previous line ups. 2005 stands out as one of the better years with many of the bands going on to become 'mainstream'.

I reckon you'll still be OK getting drinks in, time will tell.
