re: Xavier has left the club !!!

I don't mind to be honest, then hopefully Parnaby will leave too and we will bring in a new right back. Then we will have McMahon, Davies and hopefully a good new right back competing for the right back slot.

re: Xavier has left the club !!!

Quote

"I would like to say thank you to Middlesbrough Football Club and to the chairman Steve Gibson, who is a great person, enthusiastic and someone who wants to take the club forward.

"Thank you also to Keith Lamb and to the manager Gareth Southgate for the support they gave me in my time at Middlesbrough.

"Gareth has my respect as a person and as a coach. We have not reached agreement to extend my contact but I accept that decision. We move in different directions but with mutual respect.

"I would like to say thanks also to the players because they are the most important thing in football and when you realise we spend a lot of time together, we are a family.

"For that reason a special tribute because through good times and bad times the players always support each other. There are different personalities and characters but the most important thing is to all have the same objectives.

"Gareth Southgate is the correct person to take the club forward because he has respect as a person and as a coach.

"That is a great quality because most of the time this does not happen with players that become managers, as they lose respect towards the players.

"When this kind of thing is missing the players do not show respect to the manager but this is not the case with Gareth.

"To the Middlesbrough fans, a special message that they must support the club and stick with Gareth. You have a good chairman who supports the manager. The supporters must be part of the same objective.

"Personally, I would like to say thanks for their support to me because the fans are very passionate about the club and are anxious for success and I hope the club achieves that.

"Middlesbrough Football Club is always going to be a special club to me."

Thanks for the crazy hairdo fella, good luck.

That's how you do it Mr Merson.

One of Boro's more enigmatic signings over the years. All the best to him.

See above buddah, someone beat me to it.

I feel a bit let down, I wanted him to really slag us off!

re: Xavier has left the club !!!

When he was on the legends the other week, he said aslong as there was a contract for him then he would sign it, he seemed like a genuine bloke who had passion for the club.

I wish him all the best. Hope he goes to Qatar and earns a shed-load of cash. No shame in that at his age.

re: Xavier has left the club !!!

Got to be the riht decision. He was worth another go this year, but he's not getting any younger. Hopefully McMAhon will be fit for start of next year plus Hines is coming through and Davies can do a decent (if limited offensively) job there.

re: Xavier has left the club !!!

Couple of telling paragraphs.. even if some of the fans don't rate certain players or managers.. they need to support them if the team and club are to be a success:

"To the Middlesbrough fans, a special message that they must support the club and stick with Gareth. You have a good chairman who supports the manager. The supporters must be part of the same objective.

"Personally, I would like to say thanks for their support to me because the fans are very passionate about the club and are anxious for success and I hope the club achieves that.

stop yer bleat'n and start supporting!

I think it's pretty obvious from a lot of quotes that we get from players and the manager that it's not easy at all playing in front of our fans (at home).

Cannot fault the guy, gave 100% and had a bit of skill to back it up.

re: Xavier has left the club !!!

I looked up his bio. He's had 11 clubs in his 17 year career. Apart from his first club, he's never stayed longer than 2 years anywhere and usually it's 1 year. Talk about itchy feet!!

re: Xavier has left the club !!!

Yeah, i agree with what people have said. Personally i would have liked to see him stay for another year as i think he had a lot of great ideas and would have brought on the kids no end. But it's not to be and so it's a case of thanks, goodbye and good luck.

Any ideas who people would bring in? I'm not up with his position and so have no idea who'd be any good. I'd like to see someone around 30 / 31 / years of age though so that they can bring in the exeperience qualities Xavier had and a bit more on top.

I think new blood here is essential and if we managed a really top defender then i think we'd have one of the premierships best defences next season.

re: Xavier has left the club !!!

A lot better quotes about Southgate than Maccarone gave. Just confirms my belief that Gareth really knows what he's doing and Massimo was just bitter.

re: Xavier has left the club !!!

If his performances matched his post match interviews I would have been glad to keep him.

How many times did we concede this season due to him wandering forwards or falling asleep at crucial times?

A character, a posotive thinker and a gentleman he was, a top class premiership defender he was not.

Nice parting sentiment though. A refreshing change.

re: Xavier has left the club !!!

I had a feeling his days would be numbered after his appearance on the three legends radio show. All of a sudden he was 'injured'

BossHogg Posted on 8/5 11:23
re: Xavier has left the club !!!

Good luck to him as he did a decent job for us, however, he was too slow and sometimes lacked concentration at crucial times!

New blood required!

On a separate subject, does anyone know the date that next season starts?

skiprat Posted on 8/5 11:23
re: Xavier has left the club !!!

He wasn't the greatest player, but still the best right back we've had at the club in years.

An interesting guy - would have been fun to have round for dinner - I'm sure he'd have turned up with more than just a bottle!

Simon1 Posted on 8/5 11:33
re: Xavier has left the club !!!

I thought he did a good job at right back (and centre back when needed). Definitley our best player in that position. We cannot rely on davies and Mcmahon (more so davies). Although, many people were saying that about Andrew Taylor when frank left and he's had a great season.

skiprat Posted on 8/5 11:36
re: Xavier has left the club !!!

We'll never get anywhere if we keep playing Andrew "HOOF IT" Davies at right back and McMahon is still unproved.

Would deffo prefered to have seen davies off the wage bill!!

But anyway THAT'S how you part ways with a club. fair play and good luck i say.

"An interesting guy - would have been fun to have round for dinner - I'm sure he'd have turned up with more than just a bottle!"

A bottle of what though, peroxide?

Almost unprecedented when someone can't agree a new deal to come out with a statement like that - what a gent.

I believe he was one of the lowest paid senior players. Must have been a case of him being offered one year on his current terms, him wanting more and probably able to get more elsewhere.

Good luck Abel and get that bloody haircut sorted out!

Moody41 Posted on 8/5 12:03
re: Xavier has left the club !!!

disappointed to see him go since I felt if he'd stayed for another year right-back wouldn't be a major concern and we could look at stragthening other areas first.

Now with only McMahon and Davies (Assuming Parnaby goes) we really do need to bring someone in. I'm not convinced with Davies, decent enough for back-up but not as 1st choice. And McMahon really has suffered from injuries the past 2 years so we can't be certain of just how good he can be.

Looking about I'd assume that Luke Young will be available. Not the greatest right-back but I think he'd do a good job for us. Reckon it'll be either him or someone from abroad. AS long as we don't sign Steven Carr thou.

re: Xavier has left the club !!!

The players always mention how it can be hard to play in front of the riverside.

it's not surprising as if something they try doesnt come off they're booed and heckled.

I wish we'd just support our lads a lot more and sing a lot more and give the opposition a hard time instead.

Can't see that happening for a while though!
