Worst days of your life

What a day.

Mrs Cheadle has been poorly recently - emergency doctor diagnosed her as having a virus on Sunday. I had my doubts because she was in so much pain but went along with her professional judgement.

Pain got worse and so at 5am this morning I called for an ambulance. She's critically ill in hospital now with pneumonia. I've just got back now and am shattered but I gotta the kids clothes and pack lunches ready for school in the morning.

re: Worst days of your life

I hope the good lady is OK first and foremost.

Doctors are fuking useless these days unless from the old school.
The new ones just want to get the fuk home after dispensing some
Aspirin, if they are in surgery I'm sure they'd be using Google for a diagnosis. Clueless, overpaid, quacks.

Ask around and get recommendations for a decent doctor and get shot of that useless tvvat.

Thanks for your messages of support.

The shattering news is that this is a life threatening illness and she has now been moved into intensive care on a ventilator, to help her with her breathing. Her condition has stablised over the last 48 hours, however, which is a good sign.

It's difficult to come to terms with the enormity of all of this - it's just all happened so quickly.

Thanks for your support, especially that coming from the Gnomery, who seem to be particularly knowledgeable on this subject!

Mrs C has been in hospital for 12 days now and has been asleep for 11 days. She has been stable for the last few days so hopefully the antibiotics are starting to kick in. But it's a long and tiring old jouney for us all with up days and down days.

Will keep on battling!

swordtrombonefish Posted on 20/5 12:43
re: Worst days of your life

I know the feeling, when our daughter was born my wife was ill for 23 days, when she slept most of the time. It was a terrifying time, as it made me realise just what a huge part of my life she was, scratch that, it made me realise she and the kids are my life. Period.

It was also humbling when people just appeared out of nowhere to help with the kids and anything else they could do, whilst I tried to stay in touch with a new job and a massive project.

Hang in tight, keep the kids close and try and be mum and dad - it's very hard and exhausting work, but you need to keep yourself in check also. I found that I was getting tired to the point of making mistakes, and very morose. My friends made me go out for a meal with them whilst the girls looked after the kids (remember one less than a month old!)

Make sure YOU stay well for all of your sakes, I hope she picks up soon.

BoroinCheadle Posted on 27/5 22:05
re: Worst days of your life

Mrs Cheadle has now been on a ventilator in intensive care in Stockport for 19 days. It's been a real roller coaster of emotions as her condition has ebbed and flowed. She remains critically ill.

I took my 7 year old in to see her today and he was absolutely brilliant. I thought that he would have been intimidated by all of the high tech gadgetry in the intensive care unit and the tubes emanating from his mum's body but he was a real star and he just spoke to her, as she lay there asleep, as if he was at home with his mum without a care in the world. But he did make me laugh when he said to me as we left "I hope I don't end up in here"!

My 12 year old son has set up a web site and message board dedicated to his mum so that all our family and friends can keep abreast of her daily progress; we've had nearly 7,000 hits on it so far. This is truly a terrible time for us all at the moment but I have been bowled over by the way people have responded to this crisis in our lives. It restores your faith in mankind.

Mrs Cís condition has been stable for the last 48 hours or so. Iím just hoping and praying that we see small improvements each day. She can beat this illness but itís going to take time and a lot of fight on her part.

Thank you all for your messages of support and thank you to the NW Boro lads for your offers of help. Iíll try and get a long to play footie on Tuesday Ė I could do with a bit of normality in my life

re: Worst days of your life

Fingers crossed for you and Mrs BiC.

Sounds very much like what happened to ray192 a couple of years back. He went into hospital with pnuemonia and finished up in intensive care. He was on a ventilator, just like your missus, and was in a coma for 5 weeks (or was it 10? - perhaps ray will come on here and explain)and in intensive care eventually for about 3 months. They finished up putting a tube between his ribs and drained off several litres of black liquid from around his lungs.

But he did pull through, so keep believing she'll pull through. We were told on a couple of occasions that he wouldn't make through the night but he did and we're still suffering for it .

She's in the best place so don't worry (I know that sounds silly) but keep hoping. She can and probably will get better - she's stuck it out so far hasn't she?

Anyway all the best and fingers crossed.

BoroinCheadle Posted on 27/5 22:34

Thanks for that Red_Clowne. I remember Ray being ill but didn't realise it was pneumonia. Mrs C has already had the tube in the lungs treatment.

And two or three times was close to the brink but luckily survived as i hope your wife will. I still have to go to hospital twice a year now for check-ups. I was nearly six weeks in intensive care and 11 to 12 weeks in the recovery ward.

Mrs Cheadle is on the mend!

She became concious at the week-end and with each passing day has got stonger and stronger! Hurrah! She's been in intensive care for four weeks now but there's definitely light at the end of the tunnel.

She's concious, understands exactly what's going on and although she can't talk, she can communicate by pointing to an alphabet board! Takes a bit of time mind!

They're going to try her off the ventilator for an hour today so see how she gets on. This is a really positive move.

Thanks for all your messages of support. I've got a big loving family and circle of friends to fall back on but it's been great to read your postings. Long live the good people of Boardland!

Is it a big occasion when you cry for the first time reading something on the internet?

Cheadle, I am over the moon that Mrs Cheadle has pulled through and the whole sparky family wishes all of you the best for a complete recovery.

Aye good luck, she seems like a real battler that one you've got there! Stories like this tend to bring you down to earth with a bump and make you realise how precious life is.

The news just keeps getting better folks!

After 31 days, Mrs Cheadle was finally moved from Intensive Care to the High Dependency Unit on Saturday night. Furthermore, her tracheostomy was removed from her throat today so she is now breathing all by herself! In addition, she is also now eating solids. All looking good!

Once again, thank you all for your messages of support - including the Newcastle fans. I have been reading them out to Mrs Cheadle and she keeps saying "Ahhh - how sweet" and such like.

Cheers.

Tony

I must say it is really nice to see Newcastle fans putting any football rivalry aside and showing support.

Just bear in mind the burden that Mrs Cheadle has put upon the poor sod who has to submit the hospital's Critical Care Minimum Dataset next month before you get too triumphant, eh?

Great news though - been observing this from lurksville for a while yet, delighted that it looks like a positive outcome for yor and your family BiC.

Am sat in hospital with Mrs Cheadle. She is now on a main ward - hurrah!

Internet access from your bedside -amazing. Only prob is that the keyboard is too fiddly for her to use. Therefore I'll be secretary.

Gwen would like to say a big, big thank you for all of your good wishes and will send you her own message when she gets home. She was amazed at the generosity of you all - people who she has never met. Mick Brown - your message had her crying with laughter.

All the best.

Tremendous. Very happy for you all.

And a pat on the back for the ITU staff. If you decide on a present, think twice about getting choccies. It makes the bugghers fat.

First time I've clicked on this thread and I've read every single post. I feel like I've ran the whole gamut of emotions over the last twenty minutes, feck know's how you managed to cope, it's every family man's nightmare. Still, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger etc etc!

Best wishes for your wife's continued recovery.
