| uploading on you tube | |
Just tried to upload a short (approx two and a half mins) video on to You Tube. It says the file had to be less than 100 megs and I've checked and it's 149. Now I've seen lots of clips a lot longer than this, so do I have to reduce the size if the file, or change the format (It's avi) Can I do this ? Any help would be appriciated.

I think you would need to convert it to a mpeg format but I'm not sure how. --- Post edited by corruptbiggins on 26/5 21:14 ---

AVI is known as a container file format. By that I mean it is an established way to package up video and audio together. The video and audio will be encoded using a codec such as xvid, divx, mpeg or whatever. Some codecs make smaller files but you can also set the bitrate which affects the quality. Another way to make it smaller is to change the x and y dimensions of the actual video. Not sure what software you used to create this vid but you would need to reencode it to a lower bitrate, different codec or smaller sized picture to reduce the size.

AVI format is fine, in fact most formats are. It must be high quality to be that size at only two and half mins. Maybe try converting it anyway and it often gets compressed in the process. I use RAD Tools, it does the job.

Thanks for all the help lads, but I'm no Bill Gates As it happens someone else has posted the same clip, so I'm going back to painting pictures on my cave walls.
