We canít DENLY that VAN JAARSVELD is the KEY in the game, but if we can get him WALKERing early and get YASIR ARAFAT to the middle (east) Yorkshire will be COOKing on gas and onto the final lap faster than a McLAREN.

Yorkshire will have to TREDWELL in the field to keep up with the JONESí but given recent form a win is no certainty, If I was a betting man I would say the chances of that would be stEVENS.

If Yorkshire get the points you can bet Tomo, T_I, Capy, Marps and I will be celebrating in the HALLs with Ray on his DEXter spinning tunes from the musical JOSEPH

re: Kent v YORKSHIRE (2007).

'Despite not having a game in the last round of matches Yorkshire have remained top of the table and following their first Championship defeat of the season against Durham will be keen to get back to winning ways against an in form Kent side. Yorkshire take a squad of 13 down to Tunbridge Wells with Adam Lyth and Steve Patterson added to the likely starting 11.

Squad: White, Sayers, McGrath, Younus Khan, Rudolph, Rashid, Bresnan, Guy, Gough, Gillespie, Kruis, Patterson and Lyth.

Kent go into the game on top of a convincing win over Surrey. There (sic) young opener Joe Denley is enjoying a fine season. Geraint Jones is back in form with the bat having made a ton last time out and batsman Robert Key is as reliable as ever. There (sic, again) bowling is led by the Pakistani Yasir Arafat who has made a good start to the season.'

From Corridor of Uncertainty.

For politically correct reasons a white hole must be created straight after a black hole.

The same though behind that causes nursery nurses to have to add a second verse to Baa Baa Black sheep, which is Baa Baa White sheep.

edit - same comment to you Spoff - less time spent making up paragraphs of drivel including all the oppositions surnames, and more time concentrating on the cricket needed.

232-1 at tea*. Excellent afternoon session. Sayers 95 no and a decent score from McGrath at last.

* for Wakey's benefit, that means they've gone for some tucker.

T4Tomo Posted on 6/6 16:18
re: Kent v YORKSHIRE (2007).

Nice to have 200 + on the board and Younus/is and Rudolph still strapping up their pads.

With Guy playing instead of Brophy I tend to think Rashid as a place to high at 6. That said Bres, Gough and Dizzy at 7/8, 9 and 10 sort of make up for that.

T4Tomo Posted on 6/6 16:47

Kent have used 7 bowlers already. Andrew Hall has only bowled 5 overs which may suggest he's injured himself?

Capybara Posted on 6/6 16:48

BBC described the pitch as "benign"

A little odd that Hall, one of their top bowlers along with the former PLO leader, bowled only 5 overs with each new ball and that was it. It wasn't as if anyone else was taking wickets by the bucket load. PArt time bowlers sent down 16 overs between them.

361/3 from 119 overs. Can they get another 39 from the next 11 overs to get there?

look at what is on Radio 5 TONIGHT from 8pm...

19:00 Five Live Sport
Eleanor Oldroyd has all the reaction to England's Euro 2008 qualifier against Estonia and Scotland versus the Faroe Islands, plus a round up of all the day's other sports stories, including tennis from the French Open.

Then from 8.00pm, it's the first in a new series of Darren Gough's Cricket Show, hosted by the England international and former winner of Strictly Come Dancing. Darren will be looking back at the action from day one of the third Test between England and the West Indies and getting the latest news from the County Championships.

He should be preparing to be in the field the following day. Where's the commitment.

Very true it is .

7_The_Informer Posted on 8/6 15:31
re: Kent v YORKSHIRE (2007).

Although there was a big partnership, we did take 4 wickets in about 10 minutes so we also have some momentum. It depends on a lot of variables, how fresh are our new-ball bowlers ... Ideally, I would have batted for 2 hours and thrown the bat, but if we do that and lose wickets, does that give them momentum???

Many conundrums to ponder on this one I think.

ray192 Posted on 8/6 15:33
re: Kent v YORKSHIRE (2007).

I would have batted because of giving the bowlers a rest and the older the wicket better for Rashid .

Capybara Posted on 8/6 15:34
re: Kent v YORKSHIRE (2007).

What The_Informer said. The innings was built on only two partnerships of any substance. They are still 250 or so behind and even if they can get a lead they would have to bowl Yorkshire out in no more than two sessions. If they want to get a lead to enable them to do that then they are going to have to push on, making it more likely that they will lose wickets.

Definately right to stick them in again. We've got a fair few runs on the board and should be fresh enough to bowl now, plush the boys get a rest after this session.

Capybara Posted on 8/6 16:49
re: Kent v YORKSHIRE (2007).

Tomo's right. Bat again perhaps if there were only 151 runs in it, but there were over 250. Even if things go extremely well, they are unlikely to knock that lot off this evening meaning they are either going to have to bat well into the afternoon to get a draw or go for very quick runs indeed to get a chancce of an unlikely win. Batting again would mean a well judged declaration would be necessary with the outside possibility that Kent might win the game if Goughy got it wrong.

BTW, I take back what I said about Gough yesterday. Apparently he continues to bowl after he broke his hand (and took another wicket), only going off when it had swelled up too much. Mebbes he is returning from his sojourn as a soft southern pansy and becoming proper Yorkshire again.

Currently have 2 car insurances, must remember to cancel one. Thankfully, my speeding violation didn't affect my rate quote (mebbes because the nice officer took pity on me when I tried my best Hugh Grant impression of a bumbling foreigner aborad and commuted it to something really minor, from $390 and 2 points down to $70 - I was only going 84 in a 65 zone which is the standard cruising speed round here (mind, I was breaking from 95 down to 84 when I saw him ).

A bit of a shame but not to worry. Still top of the County Championship. Big game coming up against Sussex. Hopefully England will decide Hoggy needs a game in the Championship before picking him for Tests
