Who created God?

If God created everything why do we worship Him and not the being who created God?

There again why don't we worship the being who created the being who created God...and so on?

Just doesn't seem logical.

Okey, mate. Yes,I agree, there are a lot of other things to consider as well..

Personally I`m not quite sure. Actually it changes now and then. Sometimes I believe in God, sometimes I have a bit more doubt.

But I will say I`m more a Christian than an anti-Christian, of you understand what I mean.

if i could ask god just one question it would be this: why can't anything go faster than the speed of light? you know it's really not fair to put a speed limit on the universe, and why light anyway?
*sigh*
so if you could get that off to him that'd be great. (otherwise chuck norris will do i suppose)

If you remember some Physics, energy cannot be created or destroyed, it just changes form. The universe is full of energy, which must have come from somewhere, maybe this conversion of energy helped God restore entropy.

Scrote Posted on 7/6 15:02
re: Who created God?

the problem is that it is impossible for the human mind to properly imagine what is outside of the universe

its similar to the fact you can't dream that you die - no matter what you dream of you always survive in the dream 'cos your brain needs that frame of reference

God is whatever is beyond the physical universe and as such is not bound by the laws of physics that form the frame of reference that we work to (at least on everything above the quantum scale...)

whether God has deliberately created us or we are just an evolutionary step in one of His many sneezes is a question that can only be answered by each person on their own

God is eternal. He has lived, and will live forever. He is the epitomy of eternity. As this is supposed to be true, I beleive that given that he's infinite and has lived eternally, and he has eventual created the universe, life and everything, he must be a monkey...

I also believe things have to come from somewhere. There is SO MUCH existing in this world. Do we think it just happened incidentally?

jd1973 Posted on 7/6 20:31
re: Who created God?

God doesn't exist. People who believe have been brainwashed into thinking a higher power is responsible for everything we see, do, feel, smell, touch.

Therefore God is an imaginary being developed over hundreds of years by a cult determined to control the minds of people.

Just like the "Newcastle are a big club who win lots of trophies" sect that has just captured a new member.

re: Who created God?

lefty - i really don't know what i think sometimes

i was brought up catholic and have a reasonably strong belief that Jesus was who he said he was - however i am not wholly satisfied with the direction the early church took under st paul but who am i to argue...

it basically comes down to what you think is "out there" - are there other planets with intelligent life on and if so do they believe in their own gods or do they believe in the same one we do for the same reasons?

personally i don't think there is much chance of us ever finding intelligent life elsewhere so it is perhaps a pointless exercise in thinking about it

what i don't like are the anti-religion brigade who use religion as an excuse to deny God - i'm all for sensible debate but it just ends up being about creationist loons and the pope not letting people wear condoms - very tedious

jd1973 - everything we see, feel and touch i'll grant you but NOT everything we do - that is the most important point - without free will life would be meaningless

jd1973 Posted on 7/6 22:19
re: Who created God?

Yes, free will...but aren't we constrained by frameworks built by society from doing the things we really want to do?

Organised religion wants us to do certain things, and not do certain things, in an effort to control what we do. In essence religion prevents us from exercising free will by introducing frameworks that "God" (the mythical being) has deemed to be the right path to follow (thinking procreation and the use of contraception in the Catholic church).

re: Who created God?

God is a myth, there is not one shred of evidence to suggest he existed, the bible could be fiction for all anyone knows.

I have no problem with religious people, someone very close to me is extremely religious. What i don't like is when they try to push their views on to you, plenty of people have tried it too. I don't need faith, nor do i want it. I'm happy with my lot and don't feel the need to pray to some fat beardy guy in times of trouble, i find it all very nauseating when people do.

I once went to my friend's baptism and it fightened me! She was crying, arms reaching up and shaking violently. Grown men were on their knees and they had one of those young christian rock bands! It was all very disturbing.

She now lines the pockets of the church with 10% of her earnings every month, just because they have 'helped her through difficult times'. It's like paying for the services of God.

PoetLaureate Posted on 7/6 23:06
re: Who created God?

I am not religious at all but to me God is real because of the emotions he creates. Why is it bad that somebody finds happiness in god god is real because of the emotions he creates

BoroMod Posted on 7/6 23:19
re: Who created God?

I can see your point Poet, he creates emotions and people have feelings towards him. People have feelings towards Star Wars though, does that make Jedi's real?

What is more disturbing for me is that religion creates as many problems as it supposedly remedies. People feel that strongly about it, are that fanatical about it, that they would kill in the name of their God. Whether they are in the minority or not, millions of died because of organised religion and that can't make it a good thing.

well i bet most the drama queens on here think its viduka.

PoetLaureate Posted on 7/6 23:33
re: Who created God?

The world has at present no adequate definition of God; and I think we should be able to define a thing before we can satisfactorily disprove it.
I just feel many people find comfort in religion and can keep them strong. I understand that many people feel religion is to blame for many current problems, however I believe its interpretation which is key not religion. Many people believe the bible says to kill or that gay relationships are wrong others believe the complete opposite. Its the teachings of religion which is important and maybe its not the religion that has caused somebody to kill in the name of god but the person themself and society! many atheists have done wrong also so i would very much question that religion is at the basis of all hatred in the world.
Religion can be a comfort to people and why take that away

re: Who created God?

I'm worried...

"its similar to the fact you can't dream that you die - no matter what you dream of you always survive in the dream 'cos your brain needs that frame of reference"

That's fact? But I dreamt that I was flying to Japan, plane took off, engines failed, plane came back down, smacked into ground, and at that point of realisation of death I woke up all in a sweat?! Did I survive? Am I actually dead now and this is all just a dream? Viduka didn't join the Geordies?!

Scrote Posted on 8/6 0:36
re: Who created God?

you woke up before you died in the dream though...

try to conceptualise being dead - its impossible 'cos you can't shut off every little bit of external stimulus (assuming thats what being dead is like)

re: Who created God?

The term "created" implies a beginning. Beginning implies existing within a dimension constrained by time.

What if intelligence exists outside the bounds of our three dimensional world?

After all, if there was a Big Bang. What went bang and who put it there?

Universal terrorists is my guess.

Timboi Posted on 8/6 6:18
re: Who created God?

If god (or something similar) exists then you'd have to be very comfortable with the whole infinity thing.
As it is, infinity is really just a word for us; we can't really understand what it actually means.
It's all a big headfork, really.

Coluka Posted on 8/6 7:00

We all did in our own heads

BoroGrecian Posted on 8/6 8:02
re: Who created God?

In mainstream religion God was created by man (as a whole not just by the bloke down the road)

However the ideas of 'God' which sit more comfortably with me are the ideas that 'God' is within everyone and isn't a 'being' as such. An inner experiance as it were. No dogma attached, no priests to dictate when you should talk to God or anything like that. if God is within then you can talk at any time when you feel the need.

What alot of people can't cope with in that concept is the fact they would have to acknowladge all humans as being of indivdual worth and therefore should be treated on an indivdual basis rather than boxed into the usually areas we give people of religion, race, nationality etc.

number9point5 Posted on 8/6 8:25
re: Who created God?

Well you can have many gods but old one God such is the vagaries of the English language. Must be it's Latin roots i suppose. But if your talking Hebrew then you could employ the term for God, ’elo•him'; which can mean mighty creatures.

But then you could say that the Hebrew may say that Elohim, the true God, in opposition to all false gods. So you see it makes a difference when you say "God" or "god". If you are talking christo/jewish then Elhoim refers to God or gods but when talking about a supreme being they considered it to be [a•nek•pho'ne•ton], that is, his name was unspeakable.

It was the Christians who replaced the Tetragrammaton(JHVH) in the original Hebrew with 'kyrios', when Gods name was written in Hebrew letters it was not understood any more. But generally God would be known as Jehovah that being the generally accept translation.

But as to who made him I suppose you will have to ask him if you get the chance.

Hope that helps :¬)

If God doesn`t exist, how come so many lives change after they have been Christian?

Seing all the Christians, how they are, and how different they react to things, it makes me think there are a God. I mean, I can clearly see the difference between most nchristian people and the christian people. The Christians are often more nice, because of their principle of charity to other human beings. To be honest, I think many Christians live more meaningful lives than most unchristians do.

re: Who created God?

The two main barriers to man's happiness are fear of God and fear of the afterlife.

Live to be happy while you're alive, not to please some irrelevant, non-existent being. Accept the fact that you will die knowing that you lived, rather hoping that you'll get it right after you die.
