Anyone been to T in the Park?

Going this year for the first time, just wondering what people think who have been before.

re: Anyone been to T in the Park?

went 2 or 3 years ago, it was great. saw scissor sisters, franz ferdinand and groove armada and other stuff i can't remember!

can be a bit neddy though, and toilets were pretty horrendous, but that's par for the course i guess

re: Anyone been to T in the Park?

Mate of mine went last year, I might be going this year myself, heard it gets pretty rough, not as friendly as Leeds, for example.

Also, if you're taking a car, leave nothing on display, there were lots and lots of break-ins last year, apparently.

re: Anyone been to T in the Park?

Must be rough then, doesn't the Leeds site get burnt down every year?!

ste_north_stand Posted on 10/6 21:38
re: Anyone been to T in the Park?

and what does "neddy" mean?!

jeff_potato Posted on 10/6 21:38
re: Anyone been to T in the Park?

That's just a few melons who aren't used to being away from their parents and schoolmasters.

From what I'm told, it's just the general atmosphere - e.g. you couldn't walk round with an England flag and get a jovial reception, like how the Scottish do at Leeds and Download, for example.

ste_north_stand Posted on 10/6 21:39
re: Anyone been to T in the Park?

Oh yeah i won't be advertising the fact i'm from England!

janplanner Posted on 10/6 22:12
re: Anyone been to T in the Park?

neddy: lots of neds seem to go.

it's sort of scottish for chav? short for uneducated, i think, but could i be wrong.

that makes me sound like a proper snob doesn't it? anyway there was a great atmosphere when i went, not at all spoilt by ned contingent.

Pleased to hear it jan, i was gonna pack me boxing gloves for a minute there!

re: Anyone been to T in the Park?

I would not go again if you paid me.
went last year for the 1st time, the amount of anti-english stuff going on was shocking. dont know if it was the fact that the world cup had just finished for england, as the final was on the same weekend, but for example my brother went with his pregnant wife, one lad had a p... on him and as he was on his own, asked him what he was going to do about it, quote " you english c...". pity he was with a few other lads.
i have a very good friend who lives in bathgate, and we normally joke about the english / scottish, but even he was shocked about the whole weekend.
basically the place is teaming with scruffy scottish chavs, hence all the problems with breakin's / tents being stole etc. shame us english dont give the same back when they venture over the border.
rant over, dont go, flog you tickets on ebay and go to v or leeds, much much better.

re: Anyone been to T in the Park?

T atmosphere's definitely a lot better than Leeds. T has a few neds and a lot of drunken, lairy but friendly Scotsmen - Leeds has posh kids in Marilyn Manson hoodies thinking it's fun to blow chemical toilets up.

Been to T twice and had a great laugh - if there's a ned (non-educated deliquent) friendly band like Oasis then there'll be more twats, as with any festival.

Wouldn't go round with an England flag, but that's just common sense - we actually found most Scots wanted to prove how much better their festival was than English ones, and so offered us plenty of booze to help us on our way.... not complaining. And my London mate found that the accents and constant swearing takes a bit of getting used to.

re: Anyone been to T in the Park?

Would also say that T's line-up is usually great, but they put on a load of top bands at the same time on the same stage, while there's so much dross on the Main Stage during daytime (Avril bloody Lavigne!) as they want people just milling around getting fleeced on drinks - one year I went Bowie, Muse and Bassment Jaxx were on at the same time, though Bowie did cancel.

Sunday looks awesome though on the other stages - awful line-up on Main, but Maximo Park, Biffy Clyro, Interpol and Queens of the Stone Age on elsewhere... gutted am not going now!

re: Anyone been to T in the Park?

I'm totally torn as Maximo Park are on at the same time as KOL on different stages. After much soul searching i'm gonna plump for KOL. Also our group is split as Kooks are on at same time as Killers. I don't like the Killers so i'll be off to see Kooks.

Anymore for anymore?

fook me, bathgate
what a rough place that is.

You ever been to Da Vincis up there?

Hotel / bar/ nightclub?

Me and my mate stayed there when we were working in Livinston.
Had a few pints, went to bed, woke up in the morning with a police forensics tent 30 yards from our window at the shops where somebody had been stabed and killed.

Horrible little place

you may not like the killers, but to suggest the kooks are better is silly

ste_north_stand Posted on 11/6 16:05
re: Anyone been to T in the Park?

I'm not a massive fan of the Kooks either really but i don't like the Killers at all so may aswell go and see Kooks or see who is on the other stages.

re: Anyone been to T in the Park?

bathgate is similar to most towns in the uk, no, not good and bad parts, just basically ruff as fick, similar to ingleby barwick.( another little dig from us billogs )
my mate is the most well travelled guy I have ever met, and he is not a biggot like the most of them, but even he is amazed at the hatred towards the english.
once went up for a weekend and the orange day parades were on, I have never seen anythink like it in my life, very very scary and very very rough, and I class my self as a street wise person.
