| My turn to scrounge | |
Would anybody care to sponsor me in the Middlesbrough 10K run? I know it's not until September, but I thought I'd get organised early and hopefully being sponsored will encourage me in my training. It's in aid of the Stroke Association so come on, you good folks of Boro, dig deep for a good cause. All donations very gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

Cheers m_n_4. And I shall do likewise for you. Thought I'd make a bit of an effort this year and run the flipping thing instead of just waving from the sidelines.

Big thanks to piggy. I'm never going to live that down, am I?

Last year i ran it the morning after an away game, without having any previous training on a lovely day.Perfect preparation, dontcha think.I'll be better prepared this year !! What was the winning time last year ?

| re: My turn to scrounge | |
And more big thanks to Wilmslow and Zoe. Wilms - I'll never beat your time! I'll be content with just crossing the finishing line in one piece. I've never done anything like this before in my life. Zoe - how about this one from my dad? He's in a Strawberry and Nuts Club. They meet on Sundaes. (You've sponsored me now, you can't have your money back

Thank you Shaun. Am I allowed a drink if I finish the run?

You're welcome FW2. I'd suspected that your behaviour was out of character. This sort of thing is more like it.

Of course, Ill even buy you it myself! *feels a right skinflint now after seeing everyone else donations!

That is awful. I think I have a case under the human rights' law for that one. Seriously, no probs and very good luck. You'll have great fun. (You probably won't, but I can sit here making up reassurances, secure in the knowledge that I'm not the one this race is really, really going to hurt
| FW_2 Posted on 14/6 11:55 | |
| re: My turn to scrounge | |
Shaun, I very much appreciate your donation - don't be daft. And I'm afraid to say that piggy can testify to my alcohol problem...one whiff of the barmaid's apron and I was publicly chastised for talking too loudly at a concert.
| zoec Posted on 14/6 11:56 | |
| re: My turn to scrounge | |
I read piggy's message as "no stalking" and wondered what you'd been up to.

Blimey Zoe, I can do without that adding to my list of misdemeanours on here, thank you very much.

When is the race again? What is the game that weekend? I know we don't know yet whether it is on a Sunday, Saturday or Monday for that matter. But is it at home?
| FW_2 Posted on 14/6 12:53 | |
| re: My turn to scrounge | |
The race is on Sunday 16th September. West Ham away on Saturday 15th. You've got no excuse.

No excuse - unless SKY move it to the Sunday. Will sponsor you though - very soon. Hong Kong dollar OK?

Work it out so you benefit to the tune of £10 FW2 and let me know how you'd like to recieve. Join me for an evening with The Three Hanks at the Eston Institute and I might put a nought on this figure but you'll have to get ready quick cowgirl. Can I join the walk myself and get my money back? --- Post edited by Gillandi on 14/6 15:51 ---

| re: My turn to scrounge | |
Howdy stranger When are The Three Hanks on? (Please tell me one of them isn't Marvin...) Dig those lycra cycling shorts out of the back of the wardrobe from your old Style Council days and join me in a gentle stagger up the Avenue of Trees. If I can do it, it'll be a breeze for a fine figure of a man like yourself.

| re: My turn to scrounge | |
It's a run? Thats a bit ambitious for me, I thought it was a walk. I could have gone into training and been ready for a 10k walk in september but running? How long have you been doing that kind of thing? I saw you the other day walking through the village I think, presumably on your way home after work. I was coming out of a shop on t'other side of the road and you were too far away and walking way too briskly for me to shout but yes, I thought you cut a reather lean and mean dash. Might motivate me to get the old asics and speedsters out. I wonder if I can still get into my old Ron Hills? I'd certainly feel a right clip in 'em. Think a few weeks in big-bags after dark is in order first before I committ to that but if you're on a training run nearby I might join you for a few hundred yards here and there. Been meaning to start and we can both bemoan that band of your Misters, for very different reason's. They've put my creative nose out of joint lately they have. And I never had any Style Council days you cheeky nowt, those shorts were just a brief satorial relapse brought on by the heat and the feeling of being young and vibrant. --- Post edited by Gillandi on 14/6 16:29 ---

| re: My turn to scrounge | |
It is indeed a run. I can't quite believe I'm attempting to do it, I'm such a sloth. I've been trying for a few months now and I can't say I'm enjoying it at all, but I'm determined to do it. You should have shouted me in the village. Although I do tend to yomp home and have my MP3 blasting, so you probably did the right thing by ignoring me as you were staggering out of Heron / Threshers. What's Himself done now? He's been pretty quiet of late on the music front - I know he's been helping old Ron Dicko out lately on something or other, but I tend not to get too involved. (When I say 'too involved' I mean 'show any interest whatsoever')
| Gillandi Posted on 14/6 17:06 | |
| re: My turn to scrounge | |
Heron is right. A mecca for a tight-arse like me that place. 6 Dairy Cream Doughnuts for 99p....all day long. One a day keeps the doctor away. To be honest, I'll have been in a world of my own with my own mp3 player at the time missus. Dog in tow too. What we gonna do? Check each others ear pieces for a few minutes? Its such an agg ripping em out sometimes innit? I could see from where I was you were the picture of health and beauty anyway and you couldnt see how unlike that I looked so that worked out well. Nothing major with Ron and the band they've just asked my mate Kev, dunno if you know him, to go up and try out singing a few numbers with em, and I'm just jealous is all. Reckon I could sing the cat off the stage. As I did when we went to head to head in the Jovial Monk karaoke after the Fulham game when I brought Louis Prima back to life with a pub-unyfying rendition of Just A Gigolo/I Aint Got Nobody. If MrFW2 had been there or Ron Dixon, the rest would be history now, all three weeks of it. I'm out with them tomorrow night so i'll do my bleating there. As for the running...sorry to hear your still at the stage with the running that your not enjoying it can be a painful business. Maybe it's best you never get to the stage where you're addicted to runners high and have to go straight out after work to circum-navigate the town. Give yerself at least an hour to do that 10k and dont knock yer pipe out....your tenners safe. --- Post edited by Gillandi on 14/6 17:14 ---

"At least an hour"? Arf, more like two. And thanks, Reggie. Be afraid, very afraid - I just might take that record off you...

| re: My turn to scrounge | |
2 hours to run five miles? Shouldn't this scrounging appeal be on the "Mired In Molasses" thread? You must have been doing 3mph when I saw you the other day?!? I'll double the money if you half your time yer roustabout.

| re: My turn to scrounge | |
Like I said, I'm built for comfort, not speed. If you must know I'm managing 5K in 30 minutes at the moment - just need to get the old legs to go a bit further now. Come on, get signed up and sponsor me. And that goes for the rest of you reading this - all in a good cause, I'm not doing it for fun you know! (and it's six and a bit miles...) --- Post edited by FW_2 on 14/6 20:40 ---

| re: My turn to scrounge | |
Damn, 6 and a bit? I've had to cut a lot of my charity donations back and don't sponsor run's longer than 5 miles now but seeing as I know yer and as long as you promise me it hurt then just tell me where I pay. Is that smoke-aholic JohnB doing it? I might give him £20 seeing as how he is taking a far greater risk with his health.

Do you think you'll do a Paula Radcliffe on Marton Road and squeeze an emergency nipsy out ? (Puerile and childish hoof...)
| FW_2 Posted on 15/6 19:24 | |
| re: My turn to scrounge | |
Thanks for the hoof _b. Reckon if I find myself in a Paula type situation I could manage until I got to our house at least. Whether or not I could then be prised from the comfort of my bed is another matter altogether. And many thanks to deganya for the sponsorship - I appreciate it.
