Tuncay a big Hit -

Press Release from Boro.

Istanbul has overtaken Middlesbrough as the top home city for visitors to Boro’s official website as the signing of Tuncay Sanli continues to capture the imagination of Turkish fans.

Thousands of Fenerbahce followers logged on to to find out the latest news on their departing hero - and many have pledged their allegiance to Boro from now on.

On June 13, the day the club revealed that they had agreed terms with the goal ace, a massive 58.6% of all visitors to the site came from Turkey.

The United Kingdom was in second place with 18.5%, followed by Germany - where there is a huge Turkish community - on 8.1%.

Add up the hits from Turkey and Germany and that's an incredible two-thirds of all visitors - and other countries with a sizeable Turkish population also scored highly.

So far in June, 23% of visitors have Turkish IP addresses, a number which makes the country second only to the UK, even though the Tuncay link only surfaced towards the middle of the month.

What's more, the number of daily visitors from Istanbul has already edged ahead of second placed Middlesbrough, with the Turkish cities of Ankara and Izmir also in the top ten.

Hundreds of Turkish supporters have contacted Boro to congratulate the club on the signing and wish Tuncay good luck with his Barclays Premier League career, including many from rival clubs delighted to see the back of him.

The figures give some idea of just how big a star the 25-year-old is in his homeland.
Tuncay signed a four-year Boro contract on June 22. He is currently back in Turkey as Boro await the granting of his work permit.

'The figures give some idea of just how big a star the 25-year-old is in his homeland.'

Or how little people from Boro look at the usually out of date website.

He's their favourite player, they lose him to a foreign club yet are happy for him, wish him the best and are following his future career.
Sounds a bit like a Juninho character to me.
