As previously reported the new Prince album, “Planet Earth”, is to be released July 16, apart from in the US where it will be released July 24. Now a special problem has occurred with the British release of the album, and the album might not be released in the UK at all. The cause of the problem is that Prince’s representatives are understood to have agreed on a deal with the British newspaper Mail on Sunday where Prince’s new album will be distributed with the newspaper. This is of course nice for people who would otherwise buy the CD. Now they can buy the newspaper instead and get the CD for price of the newspaper. Mail on Sunday sells about two million copies a week. Prince’s British record company, Sony BMG, don’t like this deal. They will sell a lot less CDs and thus make a lot less money. Because of this they will not the handle the album in the UK. A spokesman for Sony BMG says to billboard.com that "The Prince album will not be released in the U.K. It's a one-off situation." According to pitchformedia.com co-chairman of the Entertainment Retailers Association, Paul Quirk, said the following about the deal at a recent music conference: "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince should know that with behaviour like this, he will soon be the Artist Formerly Available in Record Stores. And I say that to all the other artists who may be tempted to dally with The Mail on Sunday."

awww poo... I thought I could just turn up at the paper shop and walk away with the CD (whilst hoying the Mail On Sunday into the nearest bin) Sounds like you will have to buy it for the next 2 years and turn up at Midnight with the corpse of your first born...

If I've got to buy the Mail on Sunday tomorrow to get this, I'll have to hide it inside something less embarrassing in case anyone I know sees me coming out of the shop with it. Razzle should do.

Is it the album that's actually with the paper, or do you have to send a token away or something to claim it? I want to know if it's worth a walk to the shops.

Well the ad says something like... Buy the Mail On Sunday to find out how to claim your Prince album sounds like you'll have to jump through a few hoops...

Had a peek in the newsagents - seems you get it free in the MoS in two weeks. Simple as that, apparently.
