| The Lunchbox Police! | |
Heard a programme on Radio 4 from a school which examined kids' lunchboxes and removed 'unhealthy' food from them. Why do we put up with this? The Nanny State in action again!

to be fair, if their mams n dads are packing kids off with turkey swizzlers, drumstick lollies and 6 bags of monster munch then the police have every right to make arrests!

The school probably do it because they've had enough of parents moaning that "It's not my fault little Preston is 18 stone 7. The schools should be doing more."

One of the teachers removed a healthy oat type bar from my Sons lunch box because it had traces of nuts in it. Their excuse was that they have 3 kids in the school with a nut allergy and they won't allow anything in the school incase they are offered a bite of it. Why would any kid give food to someone with a fooking nut allergy if it had "small traces" of nuts? But Surely if they were offered it the kids would know to check the details on the packets if they have a nut allergy.

If parents are irresponsible enough to feed their children crap let them do it. What's it got to do with the school?

I was recently on holiday and I was gobsmacked at the number of chubby kids there were in our (Superfamily) hotel. I reckon it was more than 1/3 of them and some were seriously fat. When I was at school, there were maybe 2 in a class. Bully's must be spoilt for choice these days.

My daughter has a nut allergy. It's fooking scary stuff. We have to take stuff with us wherever we go in case she comes into contact with them. If you've eaten a nut within the last day and touch her skin she comes up in huge red marks. God knows what eating one would do. I've not eaten one since we found out. I understand it's not the problem of other kids in the school and am suprised that the school do that. But I'd be much happier from a purely selfish point of view if I knew that sort of thing went on. We found out she had the allergy after she had some pasta with pesto sauce on. The sauce had a small amount of cashews in the ingredient. Made a made rush to AandE.

If we had been warned before hand I wouldn't have had a problem cos I have seen someone after they have eaten a nut, and we have checked everything since, it was just the way they did it that pissed us off.

I'm very suprised as well. The nursery where my daughter is lets people bring in cakes that she can't go near.
