When will we see some transfer activity

Am getting sick of checking SSN / BBC etc only to find out we're appealing against Rocky's sending off.

We need players in now to bed them into the team before the season starts, not just as the window closes (like we usually do) which means it takes till October to build up understandings with the rest of the team.

I know there are a lot of optimists on here but I can't help but feel concerned that we haven't addressed our old problems or strengthened where we have lost players over the summer.

Come on Gareth / Steve / Keith - sort it out!!!!

cant see this one making a 100.

Check one of the other 20 "we should sign someone now" threads on this page for updates.

re: When will we see some transfer activity

Old problems is right Frankie. The fact is that the right back position is an area we have had problems with since Danny Mills left - look at the number of players who have been tried in that position (and failed). All we are left with is an injury prone youngster and a centre half.

As for a right winger, correct me if I'm wrong but I think we have to go as far back as John Hendrie since we have had one of those.

In other words this is not a recent problem, it should have been addressed long long ago and we certainly shouldn't be 3 weeks away from the start of the season in this position.

It needs sorting and it needs sorting NOW.

re: When will we see some transfer activity

What did we do with our lives when we didn't have SSN to check every ten minutes to see if we had signed anyone?

re: When will we see some transfer activity

We'll see some transfer activity when we sign another player.

Our last right winger was Geremi as well.

re: When will we see some transfer activity

the right wing is a tricky one - how many proper right wingers are there playing in the prem? Not many at all and the chances of finding one overseas who is available is also fairly slim. Its not just a problem for us.

re: When will we see some transfer activity

Not looking for a 100 thread am just concerned for the season.

Like Aliasme said, some of these problems go back years and have never been properly addressed. IMO we are weaker than last season and only think the fact that there were some truly dire teams in the PL last season that kept our heads above the water.

We can't keep relying on other teams being crap in order to retain our top flight status. We are not showing any real signs of making progress and wonder where the goals will come from next season.

re: When will we see some transfer activity

Geremi is a lot of things but a right winger is not one of them. Right midfielder perhaps, right back definately but winger???

re: When will we see some transfer activity

The first 2 signings of the summer should have been a right back and right midfielder.

3 weeks until the start and we look no further forward.

Mind you it appears with our budget that unless the players are valued around the packet of crisps and mars bar region they are to expensive.

re: When will we see some transfer activity

Jesus wept. A PLAYER WHO CAN PLAY ON THE RIGHT THEN.

Funtime - As has been pointed out in many, many other threads there is still plenty of time to be buying players and time has proven that we sign more players in August than any other month so keep your knickers on for the time being.

re: When will we see some transfer activity

I also don't accept that the right wing is a tricky position to fill - Spurs have three of them ffs. (Lennon, Malbranque and Routledge). We have none.

re: When will we see some transfer activity

Kanoute wants a move to England but I imagine that the Redknapp and money factors would put Pompey at the top of his list.

re: When will we see some transfer activity

Skiprat - like I said in my opening post, we always seem to buy players at the end of the window which means they have missed our pre season training, don't know our players or pattern of play and as a result are more often than not rubbish till we've played about a dozen matches and had the chance to settle in.

We have what looks on paper to be a relatively easy start to the season (although there are no easy games in the PL - top cliche ) so we want players to gel straight away to make the most of this chance to have a good start. If we fail to capitalise on our opening games that usually sets the tone as to how the season will progress.
